The Crew's Sequel Will Be Officially Announced for PS5 This Week

Isn't a huge selling point of The Crew that you can drive across such a large swath of the continental US? Wouldn't setting it on a singular Hawaiian island severely limit its scope?

It's a Ubisoft live service sim. It'll be okay. Steep was maybe their best and even that was a bit boring after a while. It'll be better than the pirate one though, so there's that 👍

Forza Horizon is currently in "coasting" mode these days. The newest one hasn't had quite the reception the last one had. Presumably because driving around a fictionalised Scotland is more interesting than fictionalised Mexico. Personally, I am not a fan of being given an entry level car, entering something like 2 races, and then all of a sudden, supercars are being thrown at me left, right and centre. I want to work for my supercars!

@MFTWrecks Isn't being on Hawaii the selling point of the first Test Drive Unlimited? The second one being both Ibiza and Hawaii.

Those games made a point to accurately portray a specific place. The Crew sells itself on semi-accurately portraying a MUCH larger piece of geography.

Seems like a pretty striking change in scope/mission, if you ask me.

Still waiting for the Motorstorm collection to be remastered from the PS3 originals...

@MFTWrecks Smaller places can be made well, given the right amount of care and attention given to them. The greater Los Angeles area (albeit fictionalised) worked well in the context of GTA5, and the same with Hong Kong for Sleeping Dogs. But you're right - I'm sure something like the entirety of Europe, or perhaps the entire nations of Japan or China would work well, given the various changes in landscape and topography various places around the world can offer. Hawaii's islands are a speck compared to the USA as a whole.

Seriously though The Crew didn’t even come close to any of the Horizon games, so for the sequel to be better then it must be absolutely amazing. I’m looking more forward to Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, which is more comparable to The Crew.

I prefer racing Sims and for all it's earlier issues gt7 is still my favorite racing game.

@BeerIsAwesome this hit the nail on the head for me. I really like the grind when it comes to car games, I played for about half an hour and I was flying about in Supercars which took the fun out of it for me. Can't knock how Forza looks though, graphics are outstanding. Looking forward to seeing what the Crew delivers next.

@roe you said it, man. It would look like the announcement trailer/fake gameplay. Mechanically, it would just need to be the same and would still be 100 times more fun than any of the "arcade" racers that came out in the last five years.

it will never outperform forza horizon unless it removes the useless online only requirement.

@roadhog I'd be THRILLED with a modern Motorstorm - I've been tempted several times to go fire up my PS3 for some Motorstorm lately.

I've got a Series S and have played the new Forza Horizon 5, but it just never grew on me. It felt too much like I was still playing the last Forza Horizon 4, just with a new map that didn't feel different enough or special enough to care about. It felt like it was an expansion, not a new game. I'm not sure what I wanted, but...not that. I liked 3, loved 4, and I'm back to just liking 5.

And The Crew has bored me. I played the original a bit, and fell out of it. I played Crew 2 several times when I had access to it for free, but never got too far into it, either.

I'm not sure what the magic sauce is for me, personally, so I really can't predict what the wider community will enjoy.

We definitely need another motorstorm. There was Pure on the Xbox 360 years ago too.

@sanderson72 if that happens, i will pre order it and i don’t even pre order games. Motorstorm is one of my favorites from PS3 and outside of playing Mario Kart, Motorstorm probadly has my most play time of any racer, tho Forza Horizon 5 would be a close one. I miss motorstorm so much.

No, no it can’t. Forza Horizon is almost perfect and i am not even the biggest facing fan and when i start a game of Horizon 5 i always end up playing longer than intended cause it’s just so fun and beautiful to look at.

I liked the original crew , 2 not so much there wasn't a real story to it & I wasn't really interested in boat or plane races wasn't a fan of the loot system either

@Green-Bandit the progression ruins Forza horizon for me they basically just throw everything at you straight away & my favourite part of the game are the show events but there's not many of them & then the credits roll

Not a chance. The crew games are alright but both types of forza games are by far the best driving games out there. Love to be proven wrong though...

@Would_you_kindly Yeah fair point, i mean the game is great and super fun, but i can’t deny some of the pacing and menu’s and what not are a little messy for such a fun and polished game.

not a chance in you no what. its third behind forza and Gran Turismo 7. this is a Ubisoft title we're talking about here.

I still have a PS3 plugged into the tv, primarily for Motorstorm. Remastered versions would be fantastic...

@sanderson72 I'm with you. I honestly do not understand why we never got more motorstorm. Yet the team went with drive club, yea well done boys, you had a creative and epic franchise in motorstorm but instead went the boring route and tried to make a gran turismo killer from your own company brilliant.

@Bez87 heretic...drive club is still the best racer on the ps4/ps5. Yeah i know it has no online support blah,blah,blah but to say its boring is just pure heresy..go give yourself 40 lashes..

@Green-Bandit I think the best racing games ever are the PS2 burnouts , need for speeds & midnight club 3 & midtown madness 3 I'd kill for remasters of them (I'd say remakes but I know they'd f*** them up in the pursuit of gouging players for more money aswell as the soundtracks not being as good)

Oh how could I forget about drive club that's a great mix of arcade & SIM better than gran turismo & Forza imo I've got the ps plus edition wanted to buy the full version not long ago but it's not available anymore unfortunately

@Would_you_kindly yeah a lot of the older racers were good around that time. Project Gotham Racing included. Spilt Second was fun, and for me it was all about MotorStorm. I loved that series on PS3. Killer graphics, really fun, i liked trying all the different vehicle types. Yeah todays games nickel and dime a lot. I ain’t a huge fan of it. I want more completed game experiences and not having to pay to continue to unlock or explore.

Is it time to take Driving Club out of the fridge yet?

Drive Club and Gran Turismo can and should exist in the same enviroment. But that can only happen if Drive Club leans more into its arcade roots

The world in Crew 2 is too big and devoid of any character. The one thing NFS gets wrong is setting things in a big city.

Forza Horizon is probably the sole reason to buy an Xbox over a PS. The series is that good and all 5 maps have features cities but miles of well constructed open countryside between them.

There is sadly nothing on PS that even comes close.

@RadioHedgeFund i agree. My nephew has a series x and the forza games are really good. Wouldnt buy a console for just one game though.

@BeerIsAwesome absolutely 💯% the car grind is the games natural progression, wheel spins for car or car packs is so lame, 0 - effort, maximum reward and then they wonder why everyone is finished with the content so quickly!

I liked being able to drive to various major American cities. All squeezed into a Hawaiian island sounds bland

Listen Sony, Ridge Racer, Motorstorm, Driveclub 2, Split second, pure, this is what we want. Great arcade racers!! Not open world sim crap. Forza doesn't interest me got bored, Turismo to indepth. Not everyone wants the same. God give us some variety.

@MFTWrecks I don't know much about Oahu but I imagine that it's probably larger in area than The Crew 1 and 2, but obviously smaller than continental USA. Smaller source location means greater density and fidelity. So, there's potential that a game of the same size as the predecessors would be more faithful.

@Northern_munkey its a far cry from Motorstorm and quite dull in comparison. Not saying the game isn't a great racer. But we have a racer in Gran Turismo and you maybe the minority because drive club didn't last but thats just unlucky.

What I'm saying is the Studio who made DriveClub made an Epic arcade racer with a twist for a good while and should of really kept it going, but instead they decided to go with a bog standard racer with an online twist. How good it handled or how well it plays is irrelevant, due to already having a top class racer in that field.

We are really missing a top notch arcade racer and Motorstorm would be a great fit.

@Bez87 yeah my tone was intended as tongue in cheek. Whilst drive club is not the most exciting racer in terms of onscreen explosions and over the top slow motion action set pieces like motorstorm or onrush for me it was the almost perfect balance between full on boring race sims like gran turismo and nfs..it was sonys answer to the project gotham games we sorely needed and its a pigging shame they squandered what great,talented studio they had the dullards. Now E.A. own them and codemasters and the future of racing is bloody bleak to say the least.
