Ubisoft Battle Royale

Ubisoft's at it again! The French publisher is reportedly developing a new battle royale game, possibly codenamed Pathfinder. This is according to industry tipster Tom Henderson, who writes that gameplay will be team-based, with groups attempting to reach the middle of the map in order to fight a big AI boss. The premise sounds fairly unique, we suppose.

The report also suggests that player characters will be distinct 'heroes', each with their own abilities — like in Overwatch or Apex Legends. However, the project is still in its early stages, so the finer details haven't been hammered out yet.

If all of this is true, then 'Pathfiner' is pretty much going to be Ubisoft's second attempt at cracking the battle royale shooter market, following on from Hyper Scape. That game is still set to be shut down later in the month, following a statement from Ubisoft back in December. Basically, the company explained that no one was playing it.

Will Pathfinder have a better shot at success? Tough to say. Obviously we'll have to see this thing in action, but even then, it's just so hard to break into the battle royale genre — and it's harder still to maintain a healthy userbase.

Dare we ask if you like the sounds of Pathfinder? Give Ubisoft some pointers in the comments section below.
