As long as SEGA's around, it's gonna keep on making Sonic games, whether you like 'em or not. The next mainline game in the franchise was announced earlier this year with a super short teaser, but thanks to our main man Geoff Keighley, we now have a better idea of what to expect.

Sonic Frontiers — yep, name confirmed — has been properly revealed, and wouldn't you know it, the fastest thing alive is heading into an open world. The trailer even throws in some Breath of the Wild style shots to show it off.

We have few details right now, but it looks as though we will indeed be speeding through a fully open world environment, a first for the series. To be honest, the world presented in the above trailer looks pretty empty and one-note, but obviously we're about a year away from the final thing. Hopefully there's much more variety in locations throughout the sandbox.

Anyway, Sonic Frontiers is scheduled for holiday 2022 on both PlayStation 5 and PS4. What do you think? Give us a ring in the comments section below.
