When Death Stranding Director's Cut confirmed its PlayStation 4 to PS5 upgrade path would cost $10, it was sort of assumed the price would carry over to other territories. After all, Sony charges the same amount for its PS5 titles in both the UK and the US on the PS Store despite the currency difference. It turns out, however, the Death Stranding Director's Cut PS5 upgrade will only cost £5 for those in the United Kingdom.
The PlayStation UK Twitter account confirmed the welcome news in a set of easy to follow steps, as seen below:
What makes the deal even better is that you're actually upgrading to the Digital Deluxe Edition, which packages in even more digital content alongside the new missions and content of the base Death Stranding Director's Cut. Those extra items are:
- New in-game suit colours x2 (gold and silver)
- New in-game power glove colours x2 (gold and silver)
- Additional in-game BB Pod customization options x2 (gold and silver)
- Additional in-game backpack patches
This PS4 to PS5 upgrade path will be made available on release day (24th September 2021). If you happened to miss the game's launch trailer, click through this link. Beware it's full of spoilers, however. Does knowing the cost of upgrading to Death Stranding Director's Cut tempt you into checking the updated release out? Let us know in the comments below.

An already good deal becomes a great one.
Is the directors cut content ps5 only or can you buy this on PS4 and access the new version of the game
@ralphdibny The Director's Cut is only on PS5.
Im not from the UK or anything. But thats actually one heck of a deal. Nice to see its not a $10 = £10/€10 like it normally is.
Meanwhile some other publisher expects you to pay 10 pounds just to upgrade from PS4 version to PS5 version (without getting the DLC)
@LiamCroft So you're getting the DLC for only £5 if you already own the game on PS4?
@Octane Yep, that's correct. It's the Digital Deluxe Edition with bonus items too.
@rawzeku It's still €10 (£8.59/$11.72) in mainland Europe though, guess we'll pay the most once again
@LiamCroft That's a great deal!
@Octane Im not surprised lol. But its still nice to see someone outside of the US not being screwed over for once
I'm sure the game will see a second life with the ps5 version.
That's an amazing deal and makes a mockery of GoT DC. I actually had £20 set back on my account as i didn't know if the Deluxe upgrade would cost more but i guess that £15 can be spent elsewhere now.
Nice. I’d buy that for a dollar….
Oh wait
@LiamCroft ahh okiedokie, thanks for the heads up!
Now, that's what i call an upgrade!
Brilliant, actual pricing parity for once!
Probably a stupid question but i'm a few hours in to the original version, will i have to start from scratch for this version?
@Throb apparently you can export your save file to directors cut
This isn’t bad. Shame the game was poo.
Is this for digital version only? Or can I get this when using the disc version?
Sony must've learned from their mistakes!
Amazing price for an amazing game.
@Throb I think I saw somewhere that you would be able to import your PS4 game save. Hopefully that's the case.
So hang on, let me get this straight, as someone with no previous Death Stranding experience, could I just buy an old pre-owned PS4 copy of the base game, stick it in my PS5, pay the £5 upgrade then I'll have all the content with added PS5 bells and whistles?
£5 for a digital deluxe PS5 upgrade? YES PLEASE!!! I never got that far into the game on PS4, so this is the perfect reason to dive back in. Between this, Deathloop and Diablo 2 Resurrected that’s my gaming sorted for the coming weeks.
@Octane never seen someone say mainland Europe before lol
@PapaGlitch Yes.
Sold! (One word replies not allowed)
Does anyone know if I was to download the PS4 version onto my ps5 in preparation would the download for the upgrade be smaller? Or is it a completely different download? I’ve got the digital PS4 version purchased previously and wondering if I should Download onto my system in preparation?
This is a very good deal.
If Sony are smart they could curry favour with the paid upgrades by offering upgrades to deluxe editions as a default moving forward.
Would make the upgrade path worth the price.
Once again this is how an upgrade for 10$ should be. Not just giving us maximum settings that our own PC gives us like Ghost of Tsushima. Especially when the upgrade isnt even that of a significant change.
Bought the game new on ebay a few months ago, for approx £20. When the directors cut was announced, I held of installing it until the upgrade path became available. Can’t wait until this Friday!
Oh, wonderful, wonderful!
@Octane yes
@Tf20 if you have the disc you can upgrade to the ps5 version , but you still need the disc to start the game up.
@twitchtvpat I was jut about to ask exactly that 👍
I got the disc version of the original for £9 on ebay so £5 extra for the ps5 version is a great deal
SOLD
This probably stems from the frustrations players have seen recently.
Good job
Wow not the normal Rip Off Britain. Well done Sony!
Awesome, looks like I can get PS4 copy from eBay or Facebook for about a tenner so all in all looking at £15... By Grabthar's hammer...
That's brilliant. I was already happy to pay the 10 for this one anyway 😂
Nice to see gamers in the UK not getting nickelled and dimed as per usual. I have an unopened copy sitting on my shelf so look forward to jumping in. Honestly have no idea what to expect and it is the first Kojima game I will play.
Cool. All those that say they don't mind paying £10 extra for these cross gen games I assume mind even less paying £5 extra...imagine how less you'd mind paying no addional cost to play the game at ps5 specs on your console!?
Or maybe you guys should insist you pay the full £10...incase Sony loses too much money. Or donate that other fiver to a dog shelter or something. Eh?
That's a steal. Looking forward to climb back in DS.
Have it on Steam. If a similar deal is available there I'll avail of it for sure otherwise I'll just stick to the base game for the time being. I went into Death Stranding quite pessimistic but instead I was pleasantly surprised. Yeah it's definitely not an Amazon Simulator like people who haven't played it seem to think lol
That's amazing. I've gone from uninterested (I bounced off the original game, just constant stress for me) to definitely getting it. It sounds like the DC will be more enjoyable to me but I wasn't willing to pay full price again just in case.
It looks as if this will be an in-game purchase, is that correct?
@UboatUK I would almost certainly expect it to be an entirely new download file so I wouldn't bother if I were you.
@rawzeku Pretty sure in the case of euros it's still 10=10 for this upgrade, even though obviously the euro is worth more than the dollar. Nice for UK players, though.
@mariomaster96 is that publisher called sony? Cuz thats exactly what they are doing for all their ps5 games.
Meanwhile Australia?
I'll be trading up to a physical copy
@Consolefanboyspotr yes
@LiamCroft have they said that save files transfer and does this mean a free platinum for anyone who platinumed the original?
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk Not sure about Trophies automatically popping, but there is a save transfer system in place so you'll be able to carry over your progress.
@LiamCroft 🤞🏻
@PapaGlitch Even the PlayStation UK Twitter said don't feel bad about getting a good deal
https://twitter.com/PlayStationUK/status/1440327605127835659
Sweet deal! Now if only the upgrade was $5 USD here in USA too.
@stormyuk Angela Rippen and the Gals can rest easy….
£5 is a no brainer for me. Hadn't even installed the PS4 version but glad I kept hold of it now as I'll definitely be giving this a go.
