CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will return to the PlayStation Store next week, on the 21st June. It's been over six months since the open world RPG was removed, with Sony citing the game's shocking performance issues, specifically on PlayStation 4, as the reason for its dismissal.
However, just because Cyberpunk 2077 is making a comeback, doesn't mean that its technical problems have been resolved. In fact, Sony is well aware that the title still isn't up to snuff, and so it's officially recommending that users play Cyberpunk 2077 on either PS5 via backwards compatibility, or PS4 Pro if possible.
In a statement to Eurogamer, Sony says: "Sony Interactive Entertainment can confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 will be re-listed on PlayStation Store starting June 21, 2021. Users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD Projekt Red continues to improve stability across all platforms. SIE recommends playing the title on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the best experience."
It also seems as though Sony is fully expecting further improvements to the game. CD Projekt Red has pumped out a number of patches since Cyberpunk 2077's release, and while they have undeniably bolstered the title on a technical level, it's still a very buggy experience, and it still isn't totally free of crashes.
Hopefully, once the game's back on Sony's storefront, we'll hear more about future updates.

It runs poorly even on the PS4 Pro honestly.
If only people had the same energy for Anthem...
But it seems Cybertrash will continue to haunt us for eternity.
Was only a matter of time before some cross-gen game ran on PS4 Pro while walking on PS4. I'm honestly impressed Sony has kept to their word all these years of no Pro exclusives.
HFW and GoW will be interesting. Sony could slide by saying "HFW & GOW aren't PS4 games that only run on Pro, they are PS5 games that also run on PS4 Pro." But they should run better on base PS4 than Cyberpunk, that's a low bar.
If I ever want to play this, I’ll definitely be waiting for the native PS5 edition.
Then what have they done all this time? All these patches and it still runs badly on a "targetted" platform?
CDPR really messed up with this one!
No, no I don’t think I will
@HotGoomba It runs poorly on everything. Should've kept it off forever.
I recommend not playing Cyberpunk 2077 at all
So is it a good game at this point. Are we getting another review?
Do you regret the line 'the good and the not so bad' back in December?
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2020/12/hands_on_this_is_how_cyberpunk_2077_runs_on_ps5_ps4_pro_and_ps4
No thanks. I think I will give that miss.
Better to just stream off GeforceNOW than play it on PS4.
Minimum for decent 1080p on PC is a GTX1060. So yeah, PS4 PRO is barely there.
sony caved huh? so much for taking a stand. the game still sucks and shouldn't be put back on the store. o yea, sony should stop blaming cdpr for the disaster that is cyperpunk and should blame its very own cert teams for giving it the green light in the first place. sounds like they don't do a lick of work over there.
@BoldAndBrash Live service or not, I haven't seen nearly as much buzz around Anthem 2.0 compared to this broken trash that STILL has people defending it.
Played it on PS5 at launch and I finished the game within a few weeks. I know it has a bunch of problems and it didn't live up to my expectations but I enjoyed it for what it was.
It ran at a mostly smooth 60fps from what I could tell and the only problem I had with the game was it crashed every few hours, so I made sure to save constantly.
Hopefully the native PS5 version fixes most of the issues then mabey I'll return to get that platinum trophy 🏆.
@Divergent95 That's cos 1. No one cared about Anthem and 2. 2.0 was cancelled so any sort of relevancy went out of the window after that.
@Porco It was never about QA it was about CDPR saying that everyone was entitled for a refund without clearing it with Sony first. CDPR were desperately trying to pass the buck and Sony got pissed.
@mariomaster96 This
Good point @Argamonte
My friend said it’s free on GeForce Now. You don’t have to own it already and you can use a free membership.
I’m not chomping at the bit to play this game though so I haven’t tried this.
Play on the PS4 pro? Hmmm not a lot of people have one of those, pretty dire for slim users I bet
@Divergent95 Or Mass Effect Andromeda Coming Off Of Re Playing The Original Trilogy It Would Have Been Great If Bioware Brought Back Support For Andromeda.
@HotGoomba It honestly should have been a next gen game only.
@AdamNovice your point is valid. but what i am saying is, the game never would have made it past cert if sony was doing its job. why does certification exist if a truly broken game can land on the platform before it is ready? the reality is, cert was never strict enough and all of the big, hotly anticipted games got a free pass. look no further than the myriad of ubisoft or bethesda games over the years. cert might as well not even exist in its current form. this lack of function has done nothing but encourage lazy, complacenet behaviour from developers by telling them it is OK to release unfinished games since they can just be patched weeks, months or years down the line... so many games these days really need an "early access" badge added to them.
I already finish playing it on the PS4 Pro last year. I’ll play it again once they release a proper next gen version for the PS5.
I think the game is great. I have had zero crashes since the last few patches at the very least. I’m playing on a PS5 disc copy. My only complaint was the game is insanely hard and it was taking me a long time to pass each quest I stumbled into. The last time I played I realized I had the difficulty all the way up, so I turned it down a click or two. Now the game is amazing and I feel dumb I didn’t realize I did that but oh well, now I’m really good ha. The world is massively claustrophobic which would be my only kinda complaint but at the same time it’s amazing and not even close to a complaint. I really think this game would have had amazing reviews if it was next gen only, specially in its current state.... for some time now. Anyways maybe they will review it again because yeah it’s so worth it. Specially when I see it for like $29 or $39... and if you can next gen it for free when that comes out.... pshhhhh so worth it. I’d like to know from the people that legitimately play it what your true complaints are.
Was never interested in this game - thank god. Turned out to be a wise decision. Really surprising how badly CDPR messed this game up. I might pick it up when its $9.99, but otherwise I'll just keep being uninterested in this technical and commercial fiasco.
I will pass for now and wait and see if the PS6 remaster provides a good version.
@HotGoomba it's worse than that. It requires at least a PS4Pro AND an SSD to run well enough to be enjoyable.
Wait, scrap that. In one of the recent patches CDPR actually managed to make the game perform worse than the release version, so now it simply fails to load assets even if you have an ssd.
It is literally worse after all this patching.
Forget this game on consoles until they come up with native ps5 and xbsx versions.
I'll play the native PS5 version which of course has to be heavily discounted, all I know is that there better be a documentary or movie about the making of this game.
I already did and it's still crap.
@NoCode23 I chuckled I must admit.
This game is never going to run well on a PS4. ArsTechnica called it correctly years ago when they said the Cyberpunk trailer didn't look designed for (then) current-gen consoles.
CD Projekt got greedy. They could have restricted it to PS5 level hardware or at least told people that the best experience was not on PS4/Xbox One but they wanted the profits.
@ThomasHL They really wanted the profits. They had every chance to cancel the last gen versions knowing the game wasn't made for those systems and released it anyway. They would've gained so much praise just from canceling it.
@Mjoen i borrowed cyberpunk from my brother and played it on my ps5 to see what all the fuss was about rather than just read about it and i didnt think it was that bad to be honest..i thought the graphics were quite good and i thought the game was very smooth..load times are long and i had zero crashes..nowhere near as bad as its made out but i will admit i have not played it on the ps4 or ps4 pro so i cant comment on those experiences that others have had...i think there was a lot of band wagon jumping here..
ha! this game broke when i was at the dump finding the ai limo did not prompt me to ask questions on the ps4. cleared this on xbox one s, have it on gog on pc oh it really plays well there 🤣😂. #PCMASTERRACE 🎣🤣😂
Why in the world would Sony even consider this? The patches CDPR released have done little to fix or improve the game on any platform and it's still an unfinished mess regardless. PC at least has dozen of mods that have addressed a lot of the issues that plagued the game, even unlocking things that were previously unavailable to players but the PS has none of these so I'll ask again... WHY???
I've got a Pro with a fast SSD in it but I will not be experiencing this car crash...
@Northern_munkey Some are always fortunate to never experience serious issues, bugs and glitches. But any way you look at it, the game is still an unfinished mess, no matter how smoothly it ran for you.
AI was a joke in all its forms, but especially the police. Crowds, vehicles would have erratic travel patterns, even stopping for no reason as if awaiting further instructions. Entire areas would be completely devoid of people or vehicles for some time until they suddenly kicked in and spawned everywhere. Missions could easily be tripped up and missed. The list goes on and on.
@Nepp67 They would have gotten far more praise to just admit the game had only had less than 4 real years of development and just wasn't ready. Period. Instead, they lied, tried to rush it out the door as early as 2019 — can you imagine how horrendous that would have been? Delays, delays, delays, cut content, BS excuse for cutting content, lies about how great it runs on all platforms when they knew nothing could have been further from the truth.
It's not the praise they missed. It's credibility.
@ThomasHL It wasn't finished on ANY platform. That the last-gen consoles tripped them up is only a tiny part of the story. The game was an unholy mess on ALL platforms and they still released it.
@Mjoen There wasn't a single hard mission anywhere in the game. Yeah, I get that you had the difficulty turned way up and then realized that. But there's also a typical for CDPR unbalance in that once you get past the mid-stages of the game, the end-game is ridiculously easy regardless of the difficulty level because you are grossly over powered. Same thing happened in The Witcher 3 so no surprises there.
I found the AI to be frustrating as hell. I found the glitches and bugs to be hysterical and totally out of place in a AAA title with as much hype as this game had for over 8 years. I mean, in this day and age, to see devs still having issues with falling through the map, floating above it, getting stuck on the scenery, vehicles spawning on top of each other, NPCs appearing half spawned in the ground... the list is just exhaustive regarding the number of issues in the game.
It's tiring to list them all. And maybe we're just too used to see this sort of thing in all games but when you consider they spent over $350m to make the damn thing, wouldn't you expect it to be better than that?
Recently, hackers stole some materials from CDRP and have released some stuff online. Included in some of that were videos made by the devs mocking their own bugs and glitches, sort of gag or blooper reels. While these were supposedly from the alpha version of the game, sadly, many of those bugs and glitches are still in the present version of the game.
So, yeah, some of us are peeved off as hell regarding the state of the game and to hear that it might make it back into the PS store is a joke. CDPR has done nothing to really fix anything in the game. The modders have done way more, as they always have done, even for The Witcher 3, but mods are not available for the consoles so... nothing at all has changed for them.
@Porco I've been asking this same question for months now. There is no way it could have passed certification for the consoles without a little greasing of the palms. The game was broken and unfinished on launch and it's still broken and unfinished. Some mods have fixed some issues but that still leaves a seriously unfinished game.
@Cyxn1d3 I'm not really sure why you trusted CDPR in the first place. They pulled a lot of the same crap with The Witcher 3. Even now, they're planning on releasing an enhanced version of the game and they'll be including a bunch of mods. Ask yourself why? Because the vanilla version has a ton of issues which those mods addressed and fixed whereas the devs could not.
Played on my original PS4 and only bought the game after launch so I was fully aware of all the issues so my expectations were not too high. With those slightly decreased expectations I felt the game ran okay, crashes were in infrequent (2 I think) and I didn't have any noticeable game affecting bugs.
In saying that even if the game ran like a dream and looked absolutely photo realistic it is still a really average game. A lot of time was clearly spent making a massive world but the actual story is really short and finishes quite abruptly (this does make seeing different endings nice and easy). Basically what I'm saying is that it's not just the technical issues that point to a slightly rushed finish but the whole game clearly wasn't ready, another 12 months was needed.
We have two ways of making games, CDPR tried to create the PC version then back port it to console, there's only so much you can do before it looks rubbish on the base PS4. Horizon FW was created on PS4 initially then enhanced for PS5. That will limit level design because it needs to work on both, but it looks amazing. I was lucky enough to play Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5, just waiting for DLC now.
I just got done playing for a few hours... this game is almost made for VR.
They could have just released it later this year or next year at the earliest as it clearly wasn't ready. And get the smaller issues all fixed up in the following year or two like any other game
Was really looking forward to this game but all my excitement for it has gone now after this mess. If it had released this year as a working game then my excitement for it would have left me dying to play it. I will just wait for it the PS5 version to become dirt cheap. Maybe even wait for a bundled edition which contains all the dlc and expansions
Why oh why put it back on the store only to still be busted..is this game ever gonna be completely fixed?
@BradT Exactly, the disaster would have so much more WORSE if they had released at the original date. For a game THIS ambitious about its RPG aspects they kept blabbing about it needed at the LEAST 6 to 7 years. Maybe even more if I'm being honest. The RPG aspects were so far from what was promised that they even changed the genre for Cyberpunk before release. They kept talking about how their open world would be NEXT GEN and how it would have the MOST ADVANCED open world yet. After all that it came out as a title from 2010.
I've been playing it on my ps5 for a few weeks. I'm a few trophies away from the platinum. I've only experienced 1 crash and a few buggy missions.
This game should have never released on last gen consoles ,they shouldve bit the bullet and just released on the current gen,its time to put the ps4 version on the back burner and concentrate on the ps5 version, they might repair a bit of their companies reputation that way.
@Divergent95 As of February this year, Anthem 2.0 was cancelled. Not sure what there is to hype about if its never going to come to fruition.
@DTfeartheBEARD I had the same experience.
@Arxlvi That's the point. It got cancelled and nobody cares, even though it deserved a better chance than Cyberbug.
And yet, people won't stop talking about this dumpster fire lol. Just let it die...
@ViolentEntity Yes, lovely combat and flying mechanics. I loved the planet and the whole "anthem of creation" narrative.
Here's to Bioware making an epic comeback with DA 4.
@Divergent95 Ahh! I misunderstood. Anthem had great potential but was unfortunately let down by a rushed release and an unforgiving playerbase. Cyberpunk defo does not deserve a redemption arc over many other games that have been kicked to the curb due to poor releases. The game was blatantly mis sold as a revolutionary and working product however what was delivered was a shell of the ambition presented while also under delivering on basic functionality and playability. A true shame but alas.
So that means as fixed & polished as it could be, don't expect it to run well on base PS4/XB1🥴
@Arxlvi You couldn't be more correct. Yet for some reason I can't explain, gamers and reviewers are still giving it a benefit of the doubt O.O
Guurl, seriously?
What about Mass Effect Andromeda? Sure it was a bit of a disappointment but that game is ten times better than Cyberpunk and I never saw anyone advocate for the Quarian DLC.
Anyway, you perfectly summarized everything lol!
havent played since April and not sure when the last update was but personally it has crashed around 35 times on ps5 over 80 hours gameplay
I pre ordered cyberpunk, played it, beat it, & traded it. Such a shame game had potential I wanted to be immersed in the world of cyberpunk but we know how it turned out to be.
deep sigh Might as well just wait for the PS5 upgrade version. If it will still even be a thing. Looks like I probably won't play this until 2022 when every last patch is out. Damn.
@Divergent95 Real talk on Andromeda. I gave that a go after all the patches and I was surprised out how much I enjoyed it. Hell, I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed Mass Effect 3.
Reduce the price
This is great news! A warning is really a perfect solution on Sony’s side. Cyberpunk is undercooked but far from the soul devouring monstrous dumpster fire it’s been made out to be. I’m very much looking forward to updates on the game.
Bought this half-price 2 weeks ago. The game runs great on my PS4 slim. No crashes and I'm absolutely loving it so far!
@Northern_munkey Who do you think are complaining about the people with a PS5 or the people who bought a PS4 game for the PS4 maybe. 😒
@SavoyPrime I bought it 9,99. 🤪
@Arxlvi Anthem was a busy with almost no content it may look great but if there is nothing to do why even bother.
You have release a game with content not hope people will wait long enough for you to make afterwards.
@Flaming_Kaiser i thought everybody was having a nibble to be honest...
@Flaming_Kaiser I've gone strictly digital now. So I'll be in for a long wait if I wanted to get it for that cheap lol. Especially since it has been off PSN for so long. Kind of wish they had left it up. Maybe I at least could have go it for $20 by now lol
@Northern_munkey For me a game has to be released with a nice amount of content the roadmap was a joke its a pity it looked cool but no content.
@SavoyPrime Got it retail for a tenner its worth nothing more to me. 🤪
Just got home from a trip to Best Buy to pick up game builders garage on switch... that said... cyber punk is discounted $19.99 today.... so worth it... specially with the free PS5 update when that arrives. I think the price will go up and stay up for awhile once it goes digital again.... anyways 19.99$ bestbuy today. I haven’t checked online... maybe it’s just my region... took a picture and sent it to a buddy though. Anyways cool
@Mjoen I can wait for a fully patched version these guys really dont deserve my cash. I dont care what people say they lied in so many ways its shocking. This is not Witcher 3 running bad its total amount of lies and tempering with reviews it should be a crime.
@Flaming_Kaiser i didnt say the game was perfect its far from it..i just thought that after actually having hands on with it i could actually pass a comment based on my own time spent and after roughly around 15 hours i've found it to be fairly good and pretty smooth..no crashes..now i'm not saying that its the same for everybody as quite evidently its not but i have not found it too bad so far (just purchased my own copy via amazon) and i clearly said i was playing the ps5 so i could not comment on what state the other versions are like...
Currently running great on PS5. Can't wait for next gen version - still has the potential to be a GOAT
Need the true ps5 upgrade asap
I will treat myself to a hearty chuckle if I see a £70 price point.
