Back in 2017, developer Team Salvato made real waves with Doki Doki Literature Club. Released to little fanfare on Steam, the visual novel became something of a cult classic almost instantly, for reasons best left to discover when you play it for yourself. Of course, PlayStation users may not have had the means to check it out, but fret not — Doki Doki Literature Club Plus has just been announced, and it's coming to PS5 and PS4.
The game presents itself as a light-hearted visual novel about a student who joins the titular club in order to date one of the four female members. While it positions itself one way, it's actually a psychological horror experience in disguise.
So, what does this Plus version bring to the table? Well, aside from debuting the game on consoles, this new version adds a bunch of new content. Six new side stories, more than a hundred unlockable images such as concept art, lots of new music and a music player, and a visual upgrade bringing it into full HD. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus makes its way to PS5 and PS4 on 30th June, so there's only a couple of weeks before you can see what the fuss is about.

Can't wait to see my unsuspecting partner play through this one 😂
Ah, I heard this was good. Shame it has already been spoiled for me :/
Will definitely be picking this one up even though I watched a full playthrough of the original.
Yeah this one is insanely good. I mean, I didn’t enjoy it per se but it was well done.
Oh man, can't wait! Never played this.
Thought this was free? I played a little bit of it on a fan made port for 3DS but I'm definitely playing it on ps4 instead now, weird announcement lol
@Judal27 The original is freeware but I’d assume they’d want paid for all these extras.
Not sure how they are going to pull this off to the same effect with it being on PC 🤔 I mean, without spoiling anything, you can do things on PC you simply can't replicate on a console
@nessisonett Oh yeah, i saw what it comes with on gematsu. Might go for the physical version too just cause of how cheap it is
@everynowandben I take it that something that happens in it is PC only?
@Snake_V5 @everynowandben Undertale managed it but it wasn’t the same and destroyed the impact. Meta narratives don’t gel with these closed ecosystems.
It's been on my radar for a long while now, so this seems like a good place for me to try it out.
Very fitting cover art for the game.
Just Monika.
@nessisonett I agree Undertale didn't quite pull it off, but DDLC.. It'd be almost impossible - or at least unprecedented. Maybe they've come up with some super clever console equivalent?
@everynowandben To be fair, almost every game I’ve played on PS5 has crashed so I’m sure they could pull something off 😛
Will be interesting to see how this one works on console since there was some very PC-centric functionality to it...
