Are you picking up Resident Evil Village today? You should: our Resident Evil Village PS5 review already explained that it’s arguably the best instalment since the outstanding Resident Evil 4. But do you need some kind of story recap to get you up to speed? We can help, as we’ve put together a mammoth 30 minute video that explains all of the major beats thus far.
There are twists, there are turns – and there’s Resident Evil 6. Sigh. Anyway, if you want a warm-up before you dig into Capcom’s latest, then look no further. Oh, and if you need a little help with the survival horror itself, be sure to refer to our Resident Evil Village guide as well.

This is such a good video, @ResidentMeevil! Loved it.
@get2sammyb Oh, stop it you.
This video could have been 10x longer and it still would have missed things out. What a wild series this is.
Thanks for the video that was a very interesting recap!
Maybe do this with other games like Ratchet & Clank????
@residentmeevil @get2sammyb you know what? This is a super cool initiative, I wouldn't mind if you did this for other franchises in the future!
(I haven't watched it yet as I'm busy right now but I'll definitely get to it later!)
@Residentsteven Just had the displeasure of playing through 6 again with a friend (who's new to the series), and I think I hate it even more. There are too many horrible moments to pick from: QTE's; the repeated "finding 3 keys" sections; the nonsensical storyline (even by RE standards); getting knocked down when you take a few bullets; the laughably bad UI; the redundant skill upgrades; Ada Wong's entire campaign; the Simmons boss which just. Never. *****. Ends; the snowmobiles; the Call of Duty/Michael Bay style applied to every level; the recycling of dull, ugly environments; reducing the climax of an end-game boss to "mash the trigger to pull the switch"; the driving sections; the unbearable melodrama, which made me actually hate Chris; the fact Capcom can't decide what fans want, so they go for the kitchen sink approach. I could go on but yeah, the nadir of the series for sure.
I do like Mercenaries though!
@Residentsteven I'm actually glad there's a fanbase out there for it, however small, because it just shows that RE has something for everyone. I mean my criticisms run through many instalments, not just 6; for example 7's second half is a real let down after the amazing Baker residence. I've heard that Village has a kitchen sink approach again; a bit of something for everyone, even if it there's little logical cohesion. I'll always follow the series though - through the good times and the bad
This was an entertaining and informative watch. Thanks!
Castlevania and Resident Evil are my most favorite franchises.
At least one of them have a future
PS: Konami is s**t
Loved the video to recap on the series for Resi 8.
Btw, this is like a huge sin, but I only ever finished Resi 5 LOOOOL
Anyway, the story in this series is effing ridiculous, I can't even take any of this seriously lol
Thanks for doing this! It'd be nice to periodically have this for other quality series.
Why no mention of RE: Revelations 1&2... I mean - at all?.. Just why?
Brilliant video but it should come with a vomit warning for RE6 and Umbrella Corps
@skaarj217 Because they are side stories, nothing to do with the main plot
@Residentsteven 7 never had puzzles. Not compared to the original trilogy. 7s can't even be called puzzles. 8 again aren't challenging and everything is on rails.
@Zuljaras At least Castlevania fans have the recent Netflix series to enjoy though?
@KidBoruto True! Count on anyone BUT Konami to deliver some decent Castlevania experience
@Zuljaras Speaking of Netflix, they are also working on some Resident Evil projects.
The first release being the "CGI anime" Infinite Darkness, premiering sometime in July 2021.
