Metal Gear Solid 2

We're not even sure where to begin with this one. A series of rather cryptic Metal Gear-related tweets have sparked speculation over some kind of incoming announcement. It's all a bit weird, but we'll try to make some sense out of it.

A Twitter account named 'Tom Olsen' was created in April 2021. According to the bio, Tom is a "Maintenance Technician at the Big Shell" — the main setting of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Tom only follows the official accounts for Metal Gear, Konami, Hideo Kojima, and baseball team the New York Mets. What's more, all of Tom's tweets have been related to Metal Gear Solid 2 up until this point, complete with screenshots from the game.

One of Tom's latest tweets suggests that something's coming soon:

Okay, so who is this 'Tom Olsen'? Is this just some strange role-playing account? Why should anyone care? Well, Tom was quote tweeted by the official Metal Gear account just a few days ago. The account played along with Tom's tweet, and seemed to suggest that something's happening "next week".

It's just a bit weird, isn't it? Given the often mysterious nature of the Metal Gear series, it's no wonder people are starting to pay attention to this. That said, we've seen a lot of rumours start with strange social media shenanigans, and most of the time, they're not what you expect. At this point, these tweets could mean anything, so we'd advise against getting your hopes up.

But whispers of Metal Gear Solid remakes have been doing the rounds for months, and this thing's only adding fuel to the fire. We'll just have to wait and see whether anything happens next week, won't we?
