We don't need to tell you how big the PlayStation 5 is. It's a monster, and everyone knows it. For some, it's been a bit of a struggle to accommodate the newfangled machine in their existing setup. The PS5 just won't fit into some TV stands and entertainment centres. Perhaps you need to get new furniture to house your console, but which can fit a PS5? Fortunately, IKEA seems to understand the struggle.
A Reddit user recently visited their local IKEA store, and found a scale model of a PS5, intended to help customers buy a cabinet large enough to store the white and black box. There's an Xbox Series X too. These models display all the dimensions of each console, which will allow you to make an informed decision. That way, you won't have any nasty surprises once you get home and spend all that time building your flat pack media centre. On the side of the PS5, it says, "Which IKEA media storage unit will be able to fit my new, meme-ishly oversized, game console?" Sounds like staff were being asked this a lot.
It's a pretty clever move from the retailer that will be genuinely helpful. Have you struggled to fit your PS5 into your home? Follow the instructions in the comments section below.

Haha that's cool, I bought a new 75" TV and all the TV stands were really low and needed to get something higher, couldn't find anything ended up just getting two drawers to put it on worked a treat and cheaper than what a TV stand would have cost.
Seems pretty necessary really!
Good Guy IKEA
That's a great idea but the print cracked me up lol
This is an admittedly first world problem, but I spent so long last year finding a TV cabinet that would house a soundbar, pro, switch, BT TV box and WiFi router, would cover it all up so you couldn't see any boxes or wires, and would allow ventilation / sound to come out. It felt like such a niche product, the only one I could find was on a site I'd never heard of and it cost around £300! Surely I'm not the only one who doesn't want all of the under telly gubbins on display all the time?! Anyway, I was very relieved to find out it'd fit the PS5 once removing the pro (actually fits a little bit better, the PS5 isn't as deep as the pro)
My existing IKEA unit has around 70mm clearance on each side and seems fine so far. When we get to the summer though and more proper next gen games are out that push it a little harder I may have to reassess.
Went to IKEA once, never again I would rather remove my skin with a, blow torch than go back
@suikoden I dont mind Ikea nice stuff for a nice price.
I found a lovely piece of wooden retro furniture specifically to sit the PS5 on top of, with perfect sized drawers for games and accoutrements. Bah and meh to too much flat pack.
@Flaming_Kaiser
Have no problem with their stuff it's how the stores are laid out, I know why it's done so you might buy something else but it feels like a laboratory maze, me would rather just get my stuff and leave instead of navigating a maze.
After hours of checking out specs, build, appearance, dimensions prices, delivery dates and costs I ordered from houseofoak.co.uk. It was nice not to order from tax-evasion, exploitative Amazon, and the customer service people were prompt in taking care of changes and acted with integrity. Yes, I'm plugging them because in these difficult times, struggling local family businesses need all the help they can get.
@nathanSF Everyone moans about Amazon with taxes (as well as others), but the fact is nothing that they do in this regard is illegal, and we'd all do it if we could. It's up to government to close the loopholes, and none ever has, and probably won't because many in the Houses exploit them themselves.
Apart from that, if they did "the decent thing", they'd only pass it on to the consumer, and then everyone would be moaning that they were too expensive.
Personally, as a carer to a mum with COPD, Amazon have been a bit of a lifeline during this pandemic, with decent prices and the ability to supply things when everyone else was sold out. I'm nothing but happy with them.
@suikoden Agree on that point it can terrible too find something.
Ikea always thinking properly.
I'm still hoping by the time the PS5 is widely available again that a slimmer/smaller model is announced. Genuinely weighing up delaying my purchase of the console for a year or so in order to get a smaller one that won't take up quite so much space for the rest of my life.
That's a great idea.
Would love to know if a PS5 would fit my current TV setup or I need to have the PS5 standing on the side.
I put mine on top.
IKEA bringin' all console players together. Also, their cinnamon buns and soft serve hit the spot : )
I ordered a beauty of a TV unit last year from Swoon, chestnut wood colour with gold inside the shelves of the unit where you put the playstation etc.
Had to send it back, they didn't make any holes in the back of it so all the wires would have to come out of the front! Ridiculous!!
So my advice to you all, make sure whatever you buy has sufficient holes in the back for the cables, or get yourself a decent drill and large cutter and try not to mess up a DIY job.
@strawhatcrew meatballs and dime bars. The only way I’m going to IKEA is if the Mrs guarantees me both.
I have a tv stand that has the option of an elevated rear mount(for those too OCD for a wall mount), thus freeing up the top of the media center. The PS5 is going up there on its side because I really don't like putting my consoles in a cabinet anyway.
Brand is Walker Edison if anyone is curious. https://www.standsandmounts.com/WalkerEdisonEssential60inchTVStandwithMountEspressoW58CSPES-MT.aspx
Got mine from IKEA about a month beforehand.
Tape measure in hand once the dimensions were known, fits a treat.
With a hidden cable back to it. 👍
Great idea.... I need a new cabinet too. But Boris has put an end to me or anyone else trying this out unfortunately.
@pip_muzz
It’ll be at least three years before Sony launches a slim. The history bears that out.
PS1 Fat 1994, PS One 2000
PS2 Fat 2000, PS2 Slim 2004
PS3 Fat 2006, PS3 Slim 2009
PS4 Fat 2013, PS4 Slim 2016
I just stuck my PS5 behind the TV. The wires are hidden, it's properly ventilated, and (because I got the digital edition) I only need to touch it when I dust it.
Seeing how most of them are sitting in some scalper's basement, not sure how well this will sell.
I miss being allowed to go to shops
@pip_muzz
i decided i'd wait for a slim as soon as i saw the big model.
@DodgyDarwin
Stay strong, this storm will pass.
