As far as next-gen console launches go, I think the PlayStation 5 is the best ever. Between the first-party titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls, and the key multiformat releases like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, there’s been plenty to play. But every system faces a cold hard reality six or so weeks after release: its fledgling library simply can’t compete with the near-decade of content its predecessor plays host to.
I remember this being particularly true with the PlayStation 4 for a frighteningly long time. Once I was done with Killzone: Shadow Fall, I went back to the PlayStation 3 for what felt like an eternity. I ended up playing dozens of games on the last-gen device, including some brand new releases like Gran Turismo 6. In fact, it wasn’t until around 2015 that I truly transitioned to the PS4.
But with the PS5, there’s no danger of that happening. While it’s barebones and in need of iteration, I vastly prefer the ecosystem of Sony’s next-gen console, and backwards compatibility means I never need to leave it like I did with my PS4 almost a decade ago. I’ve already beaten the major PS5 titles, including Sackboy: A Big Adventure, but I’m playing my new system for hours on end every single day. You have to literally tear me off the thing at the moment.
Now part of this is down to my personal circumstances – I’ve been fortunate enough to have a bit more time to play of late, and lockdown has only increased my sessions – but I’m genuinely also having a blast digging through my library. I returned to Days Gone recently to mop up my Platinum Trophy, and it felt like a different game running at 60 frames-per-second on Sony’s new system; I’m currently revisiting Hitman 2 ahead of its successor.
It’s disappointing that not every title has been enhanced for the system – Final Fantasy VII Remake, a title I recently beat, would have been dreamy at 60 frames-per-second – but I love that I can just install the game on my PS5 and enjoy it within the slicker, swifter operating system that Sony has created. I’m planning on taking Death Stranding off my shelf of shame soon, and the fact that I don’t have to keep my PS4 hooked up is a godsend.
Now obviously a console needs to stand on its own strengths, and the native PS5 library looks set to grow a lot this year. But we’re in a transition period, it’s okay to admit that, and backwards compatibility has completely transformed my relationship with Sony’s new console. Where I spent a chunk of the PS4’s first 12 months with my PS3, I’m absolutely loving playing PS4 games on my PS5. It’s convenient and fun, and I hope that all PlayStation platforms will be backwards compatible from this point on.
Are you finding that backwards compatibility has kept you glued to your new console as well? What games have you been playing most on your PS5 and why? Put your PS4 away in the comments section below.

Special mention for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. I picked up my journey on PS5 about halfway through the story in World and it's like playing a different game. The frame rate and resolution are incredible.
After finishing games like Astro's Playroom, Spidey Miles Morales and Sackboy, I've been playing Yakuza 7 non-stop on my PS5.
I really have no intent of going back to my PS4 for casual play anymore, especially since I have all of my saves backed up to my PS+ Storage.
Have to admit it is convenient, I picked up Crash Bandicoot it's about time in the ps store sale
Backwards compatibility has made me realise I don't really need a PS5, so I sold it. I was mostly using it to play PS4 games and all of the PS5 games I own except Demon Souls are cross gen anyway. I'm happy with a PS4 for now.
@Old-Red Still on my backlog so good to know!
Best ever? Its one of the worst I can remember, without ever buying a PS5 the only game I would have missed out on is Godfall (and I have no interest in that one). Sure they play better at 60fps but the lack of exciting new games built just for these systems was hugely disappointing for me. Even the games with 60fps updates are those I already have the platinum for but I am glad it has PS4 backwards compatibility.
The console itself is great and obviously the games will come but I sold mine after realising I was just playing the likes of Resident Evil remake, Bloodstained and Panzer Dragoon whilst people are paying silly money for them. I'll get one again when the games come but I'd be lying if I said I missed it as I simply play the same games on my PS4 that I was on the PS5
NBA 2k21, Assassin Creed Valhalla and Dirt 5
Yes, unless it's installed on my PS4 and not my PS5, I play it on my PS5. I don't have a Pro, so I'm loving the 4K enhancements to go along with my new 4K TV. I do wish games that had their frame rate locked would get an option to unlock it. Sony should really lead the way by example on that one.
It’s the same with us one the series x.
Though PS5 did have an exclusive or two.
I’m playing doom external, immortals, Forza Horizon 4 and Gears Hivebusters.
It’s a strange situation but I’m glad we all have backwards compatible.
Unfortunately with the Covid world situation as it is I think release dates will get put back and games with no real release date just 2021 could end up in 2022. Unless there is some surprises or shocks I don’t think this year 2021 will be a vintage year for game releases.
The hopes I have so far are Ratchet and Clank, Halo Infinite and Zelda BOTW2. Fingers crossed.
Massive upgrade from a Slim to a PS5 and I love that I didn't have to miss a beat playing my backlog. It's also a ton of fun for me going back-and-forth between PS4 games to a PS5 game due to the Dualsense. I love how I'll go from chilling with a PS4 game to "Ahhh! The adaptive triggers and haptic feedback are back on! Yes!" Reminds me of when I first got a 3DS and would just flip the 3D on and off over and over.
Totally agree with Sammy here. In between playing PS5 games I've been enjoying Ghost of Tsushima (super slick 60fps at 4k!) and a bunch of other PS4 games I never finished. Great having it all in one place.
I feel ya, Sammy.
Despite buying Demon's Souls, Dirt 5, Immortals: Fenyx Rising, Spidey MM and Sackboy at launch, the old PS4 favourites have been in my personal spotlight as much as the (excellent) new stuff.
God of War and Infamous, looking and running tremendous. Ghost of Tsushima, which I held off on while PS5 sprinkled it with next-gen wizardry. What a game!
Hell, even games like F1 and GT Sport are being revisited, just because that superb controller makes them handle better than ever.
Give me a 60fps patch for TLOU2 and my gaming nirvana is complete. 👍
Very impressed with what Sony's Chonky Boi is delivering so far.
Yeah mostly playing PS4 games that I missed, I’ve said it before but it’s worth it just being able to enjoy them on a near-silent console (although that disc spin every hour or so is getting a bit annoying??)
I will be selling my PS4 Pro as soon as I can be arsed to unplug it. My PS5 is still sitting in front of my TV stand as it was the day I got it. I’ve been waiting for new furniture since August.
It’s coming in March now.
I greatly look forward to owning one, when acquiring one becomes far more practical.
Strangely, and this could be because we're in a particularly slow period, but since getting a PS5 this is the least hours I've spent gaming for years.
I've using my ps5 for last gen a lot. Project Cars 3 performance most is fantastic on PS5
PS5 is my first Playstation (I started gaming in 1990 and have always been a Nintendo boy), and with the incredible PS Plus Collection, I enjoy these games for the first time. These games with locked 60 fps are phantastic, and I am happy that I never played them on PS4 before.
I’ve mostly been playing PlayStation five games starting with Astro Bots and Bug Snacks. I’ve also completed pathless and sack boys big adventure. But having given up on Immortals Phoenix rising and Demon souls. I’m aware that when I complete Spider-Man it’s going to be PS4 games all the way down after that. With the possible exception of Maneater.
This is the first generation I can remember not trading in an old console for the new. With that being said, I haven’t played my PS4 since Nov 11th. My daughter now has a PS4 in her room. Trying to make her a gamer, it’s not working! She plays Among Us. 🤦♂️🤷♂️
Hi all new too the site yea I've been enjoying the uncharted nathan drake collection on ps5 so smooth
I got the Series X first as it advertised backwards compatibility way more than PS5. I have a backlog on both but the confirmation of 100% compatability forced my hand. I now need a PS5 to get stuck into my PS4 backlog as I don't want to have to put up with load times. Guess I'll be waiting at least 6 months for stock to be easier to find.
Does anyone know if the PS5 automatically supersamples PS4 games on a 1080p TV like the PS4 Pro was able to? There are options to switch it on. I have a 1080P TV and it's the only thing putting me off playing PS4 games on PS5 if the image is going to be blurrier.
I thought we all called it before launch - that a lot of people would just end up playing more PS4 games than PS5 games on their PS5. On one hand I want the PS5 as soon as I can, on the other I feel like nah I'll just end up playing PS4 backlog on it so why hurry.
i put about 60 hours into ghost of tsushima on PS5 (including a brief dabble with legends story mode - which i found a bit hard solo to be honest!) but the game was new to me.. otherwise i haven't played any PS4 stuff at all, as i don't have any outstanding unplayed games, and i copied nothing over from PS4 (can't seem to get the two consoles to see each other at all). ghost of tsushima turned out to be not quite what i expected it to be (in a good way) so i may try days gone from the ps+ collection as i avoided it for similar reasons. otherwise it will likely be some brief sessions on destiny 2 (it's not that great, but a few strikes or couple of games of gambit kills half an hour) until ratchet & clank comes out.
i'm considering buying the final season of walking dead in the current sale, but i'd probably just download and play it on my PS4 to be honest, as it's still hooked up for the TV apps.
Yep Ghost on PS5 is incredible, and actually prefer the slight fuzziness of performance mode. Also PS5 backwards has been a godsend for Cyberpunk, as I’ve really been able to dig in and have been enjoying the sh*t out of it. Haven’t tried it on a base PS4, but... Anyways, yay backwards compatibility!!
So far on my PS5 I played through:
Astro’s Playroom
Walking Dead Final Season
Magic Circle
Arkham Knight
and I just started Horizon Zero Dawn
So yeah, 99% PS4 games, hahaha..
I'd say it's the worst console launch ever, not the best. Some of you guys have been playing on one for months now, yet I can't get one till at least May. Even then, I'll probably have to fight for it. Seems like the whole world is moving on to the 5 and I've become a third world gamer.
I just wish PlayStation would commit to patching a few more SIE-published titles to take advantage of the PS5's extra power. I'd rather not play unpatched versions of GOW and The Last Guardian to run them at 4K/60fps. Death Stranding and Shadow of the Colossus are a couple more great candidates for a patch. I omitted Bloodborne and Horizon since those are older, so that might be asking for too much. And it's likely TLOU 2 will receive a native port. As for 3rd-party, I'd love to see Jedi: Fallen Order.
I mean, how much work would this require?
I'm perfectly fine with my PS4 pro still although I would like to use the dualsense controller
The game I’ve spent the most hours on thus far is Persona 5. Thank you, PS Plus.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Nothing on PS5 for me yet, and no point buying one when I have a Pro. Until there's something compelling and the system is more feature-complete, it's not worth it.
I was thinking I'd maybe pick one up around March, but at the moment the first approximate date I have for anything I really want to play is Stray, and according to the other article, that's not until around October.
Strictly personal opinion: If Sony really wants to get people transitioned as quickly as possible, they're going to need far more compelling games, and plenty of them, quickly. I still have the feeling they were caught short by the MS reveal.
At this point in time, I'm glad there were shortages which meant no day-one system for me, and gave me pause to reconsider. Had I bought one just to end up playing my existing collection, I think I'd be feeling like I'd wasted my money.
Yeah, it's worth it to buy ps5 just for it's qol, the exclusive games just sweeten the deals 😃
Compared to ps4, I bought the machine 6 month after it's release after infamous second son launched.
I was excited to play some of the PS Plus collection games that I missed but somehow I haven't played a single PS4 game on my PS5 yet and I've had it since day 1 (or day 8 depending on how you look at it). So much for the "PS5 has no games" comments you see around.
@wiiware I think that's pretty much when I got my PS4 too. I had the Killzone bundle but I think Second Son might've been my 2nd PS4 disc.
Unfortunately I've found it impossible to buy a PS5 for retail price so far. I've been on Best Buy in the US every single time it's went on sale and can never get to the "complete you order" part before it's sold out. Even when it's supposedly been up for sale for close to an hour (last week), it would never allow me to complete the purchase. Shame.
I agree entirely with this. I am a new PlayStation user. I upgraded first my Xbox one X to a Series X, and finally pulled the trigger on a PS5 back in December.
Main reason for me was that I can play the PS exclusives I missed from the PS4 era. I wouldn’t have gotten either console if they were not backwards compatible at this point to be honest, but with that feature, there is no reason to hold the upgrade. Loading times alone really make a difference while playing the older games.
Days Gone and Ghost at 60fps is boss.
Also having games like Rise/Shadow of the Tomb Raider and God of War stay locked 60 is pretty good too!
I still say Sony should’ve included BC for psone and PS2 games!!
@Enigk Same here. Funny how, at the time, everyone was all "why is BC important? Don't we all just care about new games?"
Despite that I still have not used BC on my SX. First I completed Vallhala 100%, now doing the same with Yakuza LAD. Had no time to play any other games given how gigantic investments of time both games have been.
I stopped playing my PS4 in 2015-2016 as the 1080P/25-30FPS just wasn't cutting anymore... So I moved to PC. Bought my PS5 launch week, and I've been going back to play the games that I've missed that had Pro patches in the last 4 years. So yeah. Basically 95% of my play time have been PS4 titles.
If it wasn't for back compact. I've would have just stuck to PC and bought a Xbox SX.
@Hordak Just wait 2-3 month until you can buy it at retails price, you'll get a better ps5 (better firmware) and most of native ps5 games will be discounted too. Also don't forget to buy 1 year psplus at $30 on cdkeys and download "free" ps5 games every month 😃
@Tharsman To be fair, BC on last last gen is only to play old games with little or no enchanment. Now on ps5 we can have better resolutions and/or twice the framerate, for example the only difference between assassin creed black flag on ps3 and ps4 is the resolutions, while on ps5 ac valhalla get better resolutions and double the framerate compared to ps4. Or even 1440p with 60 fps + RT on spidey miles morales.
@Voltan After infamous second son I only played indies and ps3/wii u games, I definitely play ps4 more if it has ps3 BC back then.
@Old-Red 100%. The upgrade to some PS4 games on PS5 is HUGE. Monster Hunter World, Genshin Impact, Days gone, Ghosts of Tsushima, Sekiro and many others all have significant upgrades whether through patches or just improved performance.
As you said some games even go as far as to feel like entirely new games. The largest one I have noticed is Genshin Impact. The Game was an (enjoyable) hot mess on PS4, comprised of poor and inconsistent frame rates, pauses and menu stutters, long load times etc. On PS5 all that is ironed out and it runs as you imagine the developer intended.
I never owned a PS4, so the PS Plus Collection is fantastic, and until Kena comes out, that's all I'll be playing for now. Unfortunately I only get to play maybe not even an hour a night but I'm loving God of War and not far from the end. Once that's over it's on to The Last Guardian and so on and so forth.
@Paranoimia well the ps5 will be relevant for years to come so I dont think you will waste your money by buying one. Except if you pay scalper prices for it
The only ps4 title I have played on my PS5 is Cyberpunk 2077. I play on my PS5 every Day. I plan to get my next PS5 game when I finish Cyberpunk 2077 and Maneater. I have been thinking of selling my PS4 Pro because of BC. Something I have never done before and still have all past consoles and my games for them.
BC is great, I am using for Cyberpunk but almost got the platinum now from which point I will be moving back to PS5 games. That said I am still to play Bloodborne so will be doing that via PS+ collection. Still have my pro set up for VR and that will remain the case until we get PSVR2.
I generally held on to a few PS4 games as I just couldn't play thenm on an actual PS4 console. The nosie was just too much for some. Happy I can play PS4 on PS5 in more peaceful settings.
I play a few online games with my friends and family to keep me social while in Lockdown. Annoyingly my PS5 has the online bug where any games that like to use online features either soft or hard crash the console which I worry is bad for the SSD the amount it has done. I've probably had a crash 100+ times now since having my PS5 in November. Hoped the patches would of helped but no luck so far...
Yeah, i think if i was coming off a PS4 Pro, the jump wouldn't seem as severe, but coming from a base model PS4 to PS5 has been like night and day. I planned to play PS4 games on my PS4, and save the storage on my PS5, but ultimately, i've opted to play Yakuza 6 and Persona 5 Royal on the PS5. I doubt there is a significant difference in performance, but its just more convenient, and i prefer the dualsense.
Tbh, my PS4 is only really used to charge my headset and controllers, as the PS5 is still incapable of doing that in rest mode (yes i have the option to charge in rest mode switched on).
Whilst i've played Astrobot, Miles Morales and dabbled in some borderlands 3 (markedly better on PS5) and demons souls - and i have Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion waiting to play; i'm fairly content working through my backlog of shame right now.
In many ways i feel like i'd rather play PS4 games than PS5 games anyway right now due to the high cost of new releases.
So yep, i am very glad PS5 supports backwards compatibility. Its the first time i've bought a console at launch, as i've always let the systems build up a stronger library and address any hardware and software issues (of which there are clearly a number on PS5) - so its the first time ive really felt like playing last gen stuff on my new machine. I think in part that is because the jump between generations doesn't seem as large as it has been historically. The jump between previous gens has always felt much greater than it has this time around. And thats ok. It just means i will spend more time catching up on my PS4 library - and hopefully i can show more restraint this time out amd purchase less PS5 games at full price, instead waiting for sales and discounts
This is why I'm waiting to get a PS5. Apart from the fact that the OS will need enhancements and new features, there's the lack of a real killer title that I need to have.
As things stand, the 3 year old Pro is running very quietly since I popped the lid and hoovered out the fan and it has a 1Tb SSD so that will do very nicely for now.
As someone who owns an original PS4, I can’t help but see the PS5 as a PS4 pro-pro with a new controller at the moment. I guess that tallys up with this architecture being like a PC and new consoles now just being more powerful versions of the last one.
I don’t think we can say we’re in a new generation until a game comes along that can only be played on the PS5, and does something we didn’t think possible before.
@Flurpsel No disagreement from me, though I don't think the PS4 will be going anywhere just yet. I don't mean it would be a permanent waste of money, just that for me, right now, it's not worth the outlay simply to play the games I can already play perfectly well.
I'm playing AC Syndicate, thus I HAVE TO play it on my PS4.
I don't have a PS5, because we don't have PS5s in stock, only the double priced units sold by scalpers. But even if I did... how could I play that great AC game on it?
I will buy an Xbox instead soon, despite being unsupported in my country. The PS5 can wait... and moreover, it has no games I am interested in at the moment.
@Paranoimia yeah same here. Im content with my Pro with SSD for now. Ill upgrade to PS5 when there is at least one game that I must absolutely play on PS5
Yeah, its the best launch in a while, maybe since Botw on Switch. Demons Souls is sooooo good, It feels like a completely new game at 60fps and the graphical overhaul. It makes it hard to go back to 30fps Souls games. Sekiro I'm enjoying at 60fps and Ghost is next. Got the Plat for Miles and working Sackboy.
I am happy with my PS5 purchase. I've played through Spiderman Miles Morales and The Pathless, and have AC: Valhalla (gifted to me) and Demon's Souls to play as well as all my previous purchases to get through.
I also moved my PS4 up into my work office so play that when the TV is in use (playing Hollow Knight on it at the moment).
yesssir been saying it....days gone is a blast on next gen!
@wiiware we knew the Series X was going to enhance games from very early, and even then, a lot of fans revolted at the idea that anyone would consider BC in PS5 to be a "necessary feature."
Hindsight being 20/20, it is obvious that if the Series X was able to enhance Xbox One games, the PS5 was able to do the same, but because it was not a Sony confirmed feature for long, some Sony fans decided to just troll anyone that insisted the lack of BC was a deal breaker. 🤷♂️
@Tharsman BC isn't important (but it's a nice feature) for ps4 gen and below because at the start of the gen, people rarely buy digital games, but now 7 years later the future is digital so BC is important this gen.
I think nearly all people said in this digital age, sony is crazy if they didn't have BC for ps5, at least for ps4 titles.
@wiiware "so BC is important this gen."
Therefore, everyone saying it was important for the PS5 to have BC, was right.
Honestly, PS4 gen having no BC was also important, but didnt handicap the console because no console (other than the Wii U) offered BC, so its not like players could had just jumped ship to the console that let them play their back catalog.
Lol I like how you call your backlog your “shelf of shame”. I have a shelf of shame too and I’m not proud of it but trying to make things right. I’m definitely playing my PS4 games on the PS5. I have one of those large 20 cube shelves from IKEA and around March 2020 I dedicated a cube to PS4 games that I won’t play until I could take advantage of the then ‘future’ PS5 release. Once I finish up Valhalla on PS5 I will have a tough decision to make about which neglected PS4 game to start.
13 Sentinels and Nioh 2 are my go to backwards compatibility games at the moment. I have to sacrifice the space for Hitman 2 to get ready for the sequel.
@Tharsman I don't think it's important to have BC for ps4 gen, 7 years before people rarely buy digital games, but now people have a lot of digital games (that they can't sells) on ps4 library.
I can't believe how I just dumped my PS4 in a second once I got my PS5 I LOVED my PS4 but as soon as I got the PS5 I haven't even looked at the PS4 So far played on my PS5 - Astro then Spiderman(PS4 on PS5) now Sackboy(PS5 version) next Day's Gone...so life is Good...Well unless you look outside that is THANK GOD(Ken) for PlayStation i say
@wiiware wait, is the only reason you feel BC is needed just because we cant sell older games? Because the point is not selling them, the point is being able to play them again.
Only ever owned x box so I’m loving the PS Plus games. Just started on God of War which around 5 - 7 hours in I’m really enjoying it.
Then when I’m finished that there’s 20 other PS4 games to enjoy.
@Tharsman The reason BC is important this gen is because I have 300+ digital games on my ps4 library, so I'm kinda locked to ps5
Everything is awesome!
Welcome to one of the many many advantages of PC.
I, on the other hand, do need to keep my PS4 because it’s the only way I can get the full feature set on PSVR. If I connected to PS5 I’d lose the ability to watch 3D movies.
It’s true I’ve played far more PS4 games than PS5 native games on the PS5 though.
I’ve played far more PS4 games on it than PS5 games.
I traded my PS4 in 2019 for a Switch V2. At the time, there weren’t many games I wanted to play and the Switch’s library hit a high point. I have almost two dozen games for it and love it.
My plan all along was to get a PS5 and pray for BC so I could play the 2020 PS4 games. I managed to snag one on launch day and despite some early software issues, it’s been smooth sailing since. And I love it. I’ve been playing Days Gone and FFVII Remake. I have MK11 Ultimate and AC:Valhalla for PS5 and haven’t really messed with them yet. I did beat Miles Morales and SM Remastered right after I got it, though.
@Tharsman Yeah, I was kinda expecting this crowd to still be "we believe in generations" and "we buy new hardware to play new games".
But these people seem to have disappeared faster than the "Avengers is gonna sell more than Spider-man, Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk" crowd.
Here's the main reason i won't go back to my PS4 Pro: noise.
Since my PS4 Pro is of the CUH 71xx variety, you know the one dubbed "Jet Engine", i'm happy to play all the PS4 games i have, on the new PS5.
Actually, after playing Demon's Souls and Astro, i went and installed Bloodborne and made a new Arcane character, that's currently at clvl 300 and rising
Also bought and started Ghost of Tsushima, that i avoided on the PS4 specifically because of the damned noise the console makes during gameplay, especially in a graphics-heavy game like this one.
And playing it at 60FPS on the whisper-quiet PS5 makes it totally worth the wait.
Too bad Bloodborne didn't receive at least an upgrade to 60fps (not to mention it deserves a full Remaster, since it's only a 1080p game). Here's hoping it's in the works and will be released later this year.
I'm really glad I was able to get a PS5, and I've mostly been playing PS5 games on it - Astro, AC Valhalla, Spider-man remastered, No Man's Sky.
Yes, some of those are games I could play on PS4 too but they wouldn't look or feel as good to play.
I wasn't fussed about backwards compatibility (I still have my PS4), but I've been playing some new-to-me PS4 games as well - Pacer and Fuser - so I've been glad for it, making those games accessible on the same snappier system.
Managed to get my hands on a PS5 early December and bought a couple of games at launch - No Man's Sky, Demon's Souls & COD, followed by AC Valhalla & DMC 5:Special Edition at Christmas. Of my PS4 games that I already had I've gone back to Star Wars Squadrons only. I tried Monster Hunter and didn't like it. Rocket Arena got repetitive and spent a few hours on Just Cause 4. I may go back to God of War as I didn't finish it, but that was down to boredom. No other PS4 games really jump out at me to go back to.
Of the PS5 games I've stopped playing DS as it's just too damn hard and a little boring if I'm being honest. I play to have fun, not to be getting frustrated. COD is my go to for 20 mins of fun, AC Valhalla is showing potential and DMC 5 is complete. No Man's Sky sucked me in for 4-5 days, but I'm losing my way with it.
The thing I loved about the P2 and early launch version PS3 was the BC. I enjoy playing older games from time to time and some of those games I no longer have so to be able to get them digitally is great.
While I agree that it's great to have backwards compatibility for almost all PS4 games, and I particularly appreciate it in cases where there are noticeable enhancements, I worry that backwards compatibility could become a crutch that reduces the impetus to develop and release new games for the PS5. With previous systems that weren't backwards compatible, as soon as the launch titles became stale there was a very real and urgent commercial need for Sony, Nintendo, Sega to work with developers to get new games out. Without that commercial need, compounded by the game development delays caused by the pandemic and the shortage of PS5s leaving many gamers on PS4s, I fear that it could take much longer for PS5 to amass a next gen library that rivals its predecessors at similar stages in their life cycles.
