After being bought by Sumo Digital back in 2018, it looks like Everybody's Gone to the Rapture developer The Chinese Room immediately began working on a new IP. Revealed in the publisher's financial results for 2019, the Brighton-based studio will presumably be bringing an entirely new experience to PlayStation 5. Whether or not it's another walking simulator similar to its previous project remains to be seen, but we're interested either way to see what the team is cooking up.
That's not all, however. Sumo Digital went on to reveal that it has a whopping 21 different projects in the works right now, including ones which form "strategic partnerships" with Sony XDev, SEGA, Focus Home Interactive, and 2K. We can't say whether or not every one of these games will be coming to the PlayStation 4 or the PlayStation 5, but that's still certainly an impressive line-up of publishers to be working with -- indicating that the team is kicking up production for the next generation of consoles.
What do you hope to see out of Sumo Digital? As a reminder, this generation the publisher has put out LittleBigPlanet 3, Snake Pass, Team Sonic Racing, and has aided development on the likes of Mortal Kombat 11 and Hitman 2. Share your predictions in the comments below.

Sumo is massive now. Got its fingers in all sorts of pies!
Wow, they're crazy busy!
I'm on board for a PS5 exclusive from them , I know LBP3 wasn't received well from everybody but I personally loved it . I have faith ๐๐พ
They have done really well! I hope there are some more arcade racing games in there along with Hotshots, they are very good at them!
Some of their stuff has been hit and miss, Sonic Racing was solid but nowhere near as good as Transformed for example but that also shows that when they're on song they are a great developer
I hope they dont THQ themselves with all these projects. Glad they have work tho.
Transformed 2 please!
I love Sumo Digital . they make some of the best racing games ( Outrun 2 , Outrun 2006 , Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed ) to name a few .
An awesome Next Gen Sonic racer
A port of the two Sega All Star Racing games would be nice. Team Sonic Racing was a step backwards.
I know that The Chinese Room are managed by Sumo and they are recruiting. Excited for anything from those guys - mainly because it means a new Jessica Curry score!
everything Sumo Digital releases is a half arsed effort, so with whopping 21 games at once, just expect more half arsed effort.
Brilliant studio with a lot of talent.
I wish they would take over development of 90โs Super GT (Formerly known as 90โs Arcade Racer) for Nicalis. That is the perfect type of game for Sumo.
And I'm willing to bet none of them are a true sequel to Sonic All-stars racing transformed. Still, good for them, I've always been a supporter of their work and they seem to have done quite well for themselves.
Sumo need to take some time playing the Sonic All Stars racers and bring those elements to their next racing game or just remaster the previous ones and add more tracks.
NOT a remaster of All-Stars Racers... a new one... teams was 'interesting' but it was waaaaaay too easy / limited / repetitive... and zero people playing it online... fun for the few hours it lasted though... I did like the help mechanic...
@Rudy_Manchego Not sure if I'm correct but I'm sure she left The Chinese Room a few years back. Unless she's rejoined them since then?
@Eldritch She is married to their lead founder and co-founded it but yeah she stepped back from being a producer on their games but is still scoring their projects.
Also does a rather wonderful show on BBC Radio 3 called the Sound of Gaming!!!
@Rudy_Manchego Ah, good to know. She cost me a fortune. I started playing Everybody's gone to the rapture. I'd been umming and ahhhing about upgrading my speakers and that score, and the game sounds in general, ended up causing me to buy an AV receiver, 3 pairs of expensive speakers, mid speaker, sub woofer, amplifier... you get the idea... lol A great talent. And thanks I'll look that up.
@Eldritch Oh wow - I love the rapture soundtrack and remember being ill while abroad for work and just listening to it on repeat to relax. So Let Us Melt is great too.
@Rudy_Manchego Cheers. Not heard of that one so will check it out.
Can we please have OutRun Online Arcade back..? Never going to happen, sigh.
@Ristar24 even if they canโt because of license issues, Sega should just make a sequel with another brand or even a fake brand. Amazing game.
@SoulChimera They really should. OutRun 2 still looks and plays great even now. Or how about Scud Race, or Daytona 2, never seen outside the arcade. SEGA have so many amazing arcade games they could update, or create collections for. Why the 'ages' line is so limited and now seemingly Switch exclusive, is a mystery to me...
@TheBuzz Which is a shame because if they focused on fewer projects they could be better received. Look at Platinum games, it seems they've always got one game launching everytime you turn around, and they never seem to be sitting on their hands, but they take their time with each title. 21 titles could last them a decade, but I feel they'll just oversaturate the market and be another Telltale.
