i just love these stealth drop style pieces of info.
realy takes the spotlight tbh increases the hype almost as much a live presentation would do.
Nothing like having a boat load of info dropped early in the morning.
I like that better than having it hyped up for weeks.
sounds more like a PS4.1 so far...like upgrading your PC with a new cpu and graphics card and maybe going from windows 7 to 10
hope they have some innovative features up their sleeves
Hope they’ll announce a price soon. And more info about the backwards compatibility would be great too, we know it can read ps4 discs, but what about ps1 to 3 discs? Or emulation of ps1 to 3, psvita and psp?
I know I say this in a lot of PlayStation news but couldn't this have been a State Of Play?
The reason that having a drop like this is so good is because there are NO EXPECTATIONS. normally, they will announce a presentation say a week or two in advance, and then the rumour mill and hype machine take over, and before you know it, nothing they announce is enough, or quite right. Therefore, disappointment is inevitable, as they either have just announced stuff we expected, or haven't announced stuff that we randomly guessed.
Doing it like this means that everyone is suddenly taken aback by the fact that there is PS5 news, and the excitement then stems from what they have announced, not from what they MIGHT reveal.
I love it.
I WANT IT NOW!!!
Loving the stealth drop, liking the details so far. Going to start saving from January.
All sounds great. A PS Meeting in February sounds very likely.
@LaJettatura with all we know so far,i think it's almost sure that it's gonna be 499. i don't think they will risk asking more than that (ps3 fiasco) but also not cheaper.
and 499 is a fair price for all these specs and features. the next xbox will be priced around that mark aswell i think.
@Miles_Edgeworth Good point, I just think they under use the state of play's, Nintendo have Directs for anything. Kinda glad that wasn't done during a presser like E3, I was hoping for a preview reveal like they did with the PS4 in the February of 2013, that still might happen
@manu0 Hello Mr Negative
@manu0 - windows 7 to windows 10 is not an improvement. when PS4 and XB1 moved to x86, i'm not sure what else you expected - it was obvious newer generation versions would be quite "like upgrading a PC". significant boosts in GPU and CPU power, as well as advances in reduced power consumption, offer advantages that PS4 doesn't have.
you're going to have serious egg-on-face if XB2 turns out to be a PS5-lite. but since you've trolled every PS5 article so far, i'm kind of surprised that robert or sammy, or whoever hasn't banned you yet, since you've consistently broken at least two of the community rules.
i think Sony were right to do this, with MS showing off a little bit of Scarlet at E3 but nothing since they have pretty much stolen any thunder MS had with a confirmed release next year (although no set date) and information on a handful of features gamers actually care about (unlike MS doing their best Clarkson impression
PPPPPPOOOOOWWWWWEEEEERRRRR) XBOX is already on the back foot
i expect MS to respond to this within the next week or so which again is bad because it's forcing them to try and catch up and that happened with the XB1 and look how that turned out
@jdv95 yeah the 450-499 price bracket sounds about right, i can't imagine it being any cheaper or expensive than that
Superfast downloads. Well they have never managed even fast downloads before so anything they do will be an improvemnt
The biggest noticeable jump from consoles for me was from Ps2 to Ps3. Remember never even having seen a Ps3 being played before I actually bought one, and I bought a HD ready TV same time. Put 'Resistance Fall of Man' on and couldn't believe how much better it looked.
Price will be important to any day one buyers,(or if we need to "welp!" save later!),but will probably come last. Agree it'll be curious if the b/c will remain just with ps4,but time will tell. (Part of me thinks they would've confirmed otherwise by now).
I am curious if after setting up our account etc.,will we be able to plug in our external HDD with our ps4 games?
PS5 might be using SSD,but we don't really know much if it'll be expandable like the ps4 so far, internally or external!
And fix up the storefronts esp. the EU/AU region...like start accepting IARC classification like XB/Switch have had for ages, so games will appear at the same time as elsewhere & not weeks, months or never!
@Jon_P Same here. I think it was the case for most of us.
Really interesting that they're taking this approach and I'm enjoying all the WIRED articles so far. I mean, it's nothing too surprising this time around but still nice to hear something.
Take a day break from the internet and look what happens?
Way to early to start talking price, they have the next 3 months to sell as many PS4 as they can over the holidays, can't do that with people saving up for a PS5.
And they probably don't even know how much it's going to cost yet. They may not even know how big the SSD drive will be, or what they'll have to pay for the 20 million 4k bluray drives for the launch units.
I'm sure they have some ideas just like we all do, $499 most likely, but they might not be sure until months before launch. Even if they unveil the games and hardware in Feb/March we still may not get the price until summer.
But it's not going to be free, and ti's not going to be $999, so we all know about what it's going to be to start saving up.
@leucocyte it's just his opinion. I don't necessarily agree but I wouldn't call it trolling.
February meeting in new york is a guarantee.the ps5 will be 500$.word up son
Finally a Bluepoint update. Metal Gear Solid remake for PS5 then.
Wtf dude, this come out of nowhere!!
Everything sounds ace. Not really heard anything bad about this console yet.
$599+. People commonly spend much more for TVs and phones these days, that I think a jump to that is expected. Plus with backward compatibility it is reasonable for current ps4 owners to sell their current system bringing it effectively below $500.
@Gumbopudding i just don't think sony wants to take the risk after what happened with the ps3 at launch.
the ps3 had that price and that was a fiasco. now ofcourse this is years later but i still think sony would rather lower the price per unit but have a great reception to the console at launch and therefore make a good profit at launch instead of increasing the price per unit so much but risk losing overall unit sales at launch.
@jdv95 You might be right. But 14 years later and expensive 4k TVs and $800+ phones are a norm. Hard to tell what people will or won't accept these days.
@AdamNovice You're telling me. I just woke up.
"Hmm. Better check Push Square."
"Round Up: New PS5 Info"
"HUH?"
I doubt a price will emerge until much nearer release, as it will depend on component prices when it goes into full manufacturing of the final unit.
I'm expecting £500-£600 to be honest. I'm sure people will moan about it, despite many paying £800+ for a new phone every year.
$500 price point and Sony has virtually won next gen already
@FullbringIchigo
I like Jim Ryan style, straight to the point with no fuss. The opposite of P Spencer
@manu0 like what? gaming as a medium evolved from the content of the games themselves... not the devices you play the games with. unless you are nintendo of course. if you like gimmicks with your games, go play some nintendo consoles because sony is not for you.
Let's hope bluepoint are working on Demon souls like its been rumoured.
@Ninjaskyllz I'm not hoping for that, why would they remake a game that has at least 4 games that already better it?
Nope, I want anything Metal Gear or Silent Hill related.
I just hope it plays GT6
@Paranoimia there is no reason to reveal the price before the official announcement.
I love the idea of being able to pick before you boot a game if you want to play campaign or multiplayer and it will just take you there
One worry I have I went fully digital this gen as my ps4 had issues scratching disks to when they could not be read with the size of game this will take how much HDD will it have
Loving it so far was going to be saving next year from may anyway just hope there is a gap between ps5 and the new Xbox so I have time to save
I love the way they have called it the Playstation 5 nice and simply to understand unlike other company's.
I've just read the wired article. The most important part for me, and I think it's important enough to have it's own bullet on the list above, it's the confirmation of GPU hardware accelerated Ray tracing.
I'm still hoping for the PS5 to be a PS-All and support PS1-5 games off of their original disks. It does seem unlikely but it would win me over in a heartbeat.
Thing is, I really don't care about VR or 4K support, I don't care about ultra fast downloads or super HD graphics. Games are my primary interest and a single machine that can, without any modding, pirating or anything, play the entire library of games from PS1-PS5 would be amazing.
Right now PS5 just looks like a PS4 with better graphics and that just doesn't excite me.
@Luna-Harmony Are you suggesting that the Xbox Spaghetti would be hard to understand?!
I hope they bring back the colored PlayStation logo again with PlayStation 5. Altough it's fairly unlikely
I just hope for god's sake that this time the OS will be much more better because it was fine when i first for my PS4 then one certain update just made it so slow at times. They also did that with PS3 as well they just need to make sure it stays optimized as well.
I'm buying it. How will Microsoft find a way to name Xbox One 2 Xbox 5 1 2 or something so their number doesn't sound lower?
I cant wait, all the new features sound good to me. I just wish they would do something with the 'trophies' system. Once you've moved up to around level 14 like me, it takes absolutely ages to up level.
This is the only part that I don't like, unlike the xbox's achievement system, where your score just keeps going up.
Could you guys make an article on all the things that we where ment to be able to do with the ps4 and cant or fall short and what games never got released. Just be interesting to compare before new console release.
@hotukdeals
You're right.
Before I get downvoted...
Every PS4 I've owned or used is so slow when it comes to downloads.
My PC is much faster, and when my PS4 is downloading a game that can be played while downloading it will take 1/3 of the time longer.
It's pretty common knowledge that PS4 downloads are pretty slow even with decent internet.
Will all 4k TVs be supported or you have to have a 4k 120hz with 2.1 hdmi....worried since can only see tvs that are 100hz with 2.0 hdmi?
