And just like that, the long in the making Uncharted movie has a release date. Sony has slapped an 18th December 2020 launch on the project, with Spider-Man's Tom Holland playing the lead role of Nathan Drake and Dan Trachtenberg directing.
It's light at the end of the tunnel for a film project that has gone through more potential directors and cast members than there has been numbered entries in the core video game franchise. Hollywood Reporter states the following: "The latest draft of the screenplay adapting the Naughty Dog video game is coming from Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker. Uncharted is going up against Steven Spielberg's big budget West Side Story remake, which Fox is opening the same day. "
Yeah, we can't quite believe it ourselves. Will you be taking a trip to the cinema to see Uncharted next year? Discuss your chosen snacks in the comments below.

Still don’t believe it. 🤣
Is Naughty Dog And Playstation Productions Involved?
Back in the day Nathon Fillion would have been great but not now. (Although he is entertaining in Rookie)
But Holland is too young and small for the roll unless it's Uncharted:Drake's Senior Year.
Who would I pick now? Hmm... Tom Hardy.
@Jacnec Hmmm. Good options as well. I could see Dalton more so than Hunnam though.
Nothing's official until Tom Holland spoils it.
Lots of PlayStation goodness at the end of next year:
November 2020 - Likely PS5 Launch
December 2020 - Long in limbo Uncharted movie finally sees the light of day
Although I'm not convinced we need an Uncharted movie, Sony should handle their own franchise with the utmost care. Hopefully we won't have to see a movie Nathan Drake redesign after trailer backlash, a la Sanic... I mean Sonic.
@get2sammyb
Spiderman
Spiderman
Does whatever a spider can
Gets Uncharted made, next holiday
Sammy faints, opening day
Look out!
Here comes the Spiderman
If only Tom Cruise was younger and looked more like Nathan Drake.lol
They should also hire Christopher McQuarrie (MI: Fallout) to direct the movie.
"Steven Spielberg's big budget West Side Story remake"
Wait what? I know WSS needs to get remade for every generation so tiny teenage brains can get a grip on translating Shakespeare's English in Romeo and Juliet but why does WSS need a "big budget? Or Steven Spielberg?
Is it going to be based on a human falling in love with a space alien from Close Encounters of the Third Kind?
For those saying Tom Holland is too young, you’ve got to imagine this will be some kind of “origins” tale of Drake’s first big adventure, or something.
Very interesting, anyway. Let’s see if it actually happens.
Tom Holland is great pick for a young Nathan Drake. My personal pick would have been Bradley Cooper.
No, I don't believe it. I also think it's just too late. If they were gonna do it, they should have had Nolan North do it when he was still a little younger, or they should do a slightly older Drake and have him play anyway. One time when he was asked who could do the role in a movie, he said why not him? Why have someone else mimic his performance when he could just do it.
Forget about North and Fillion guys, jeez! Holland's role isn't to mimic North either, wtf?! 😂 It's to kickstart a franchise. Its been known for quite some time that he was linked to it.
Being a modern movie based on existing works, I'll be surprised if they don't gender or race swap some characters.
As much as o like Tom Holland it seems Sony will do anything with him at the moment it won't sound right or look right doesn't really look like Drake does he
Unless the movie is about Nathan Drake's younger years, Tom Holland seems a weird pick. He's too young.
I think Holland could make a good, YOUNGER drake.
But, I also think they should just do a CGI Drake using all the latest graphics tech available and get North to do the voice work??? Everything else could be live action, much like all the new Disney live action remakes that are being done.
We all seen how good Naughty Dog got Drake looking in Uncharted 4, in real time aswell, so just imagine how good and realistic he could look using the latest pre-rendered tech!! Would everyone not be happy with that?? It would be the actual Drake we all know and love, looking better than we've ever seen him before and not just some stand in actor imitating someone we all know so we'll?? Makes alot of sense to me.
I just don't think it'll work, no matter who you got to play him, if it's not him?? Look at the outrage at the new Sonic film because Sonic didn't look like Sonic??? On the other hand, the Pokémon in the Detective Pikachu film look amazing and real life because they look how they should??
Just my thoughts!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
I also think this is how all the films/TV series that the new PlayStation productions are looking to make should be done. God of war, Rachet and Clank, Last of us and the rest, all the main characters should be CGI so they are who they should be. Games such as Death stranding could just use the actual actors who play the characters in the game, but I think you know where I'm going with all this!! 👍🏻👍🏻
@Jacnec Charlie Hunam has all of the charisma and acting talent of a rotting sheep's head.
Holland is mostly just miscast. His American accent is never great, and he's just not got anywhere near the look.
Jensen Ackles or Scott Eastwood could do it.
Half of the Aquaman film was basically a decent Uncharted film. Swap water laser things for bullets and I doubt this film could top that.
Movie with a tie in game for PS5 launch? Sony has already built that new studio to develop uncharted games
Awesome, more news about the movie that's never going to happen!
Not who I would have picked...I really think Paul Rudd would have made a fantastic Nathan Drake.
Another day another Push staff members eating their own words 🤷♂️
I jest, I jest, but I don't know why I always thought this movie would happen
I always thought the actor Chris Pratt would been good choice to play the role of Nathan Drake to.
Tom Holland?
So... is this movie set during the young Drake scenes from the Uncharted 3 flashbacks? 🤔
Just get the game voice cast to play their characters. They're all capable. As I've said before, I'd much rather a good fan-service B-movie with people we already love, than a sub-standard wannabe blockbuster shoe-horning in 'major' talent just for the sake of it.
@Star-Lord Too old.
@Paranoimia They wouldn't make much money that way, so no way is it happening.
@naruball Probably not, but it'd be a better movie.
