We can’t help but feel old when we consider there's an entire generation of gamers who haven’t seen PlayStation 2 copies of XIII in a GAME bargain bin. But with the cel-shaded shooter now being over 15 years old, there will be kids sitting their GCSEs this summer who are younger than the artistically inspired FPS.
For those of you out of the loop, this comic book conversion made something of a splash in the early noughties purely because of its art-style. Hot on the heels of releases like Jet Set Radio, the thick outlines and primary colours meant that it looked quite unlike any of the other shooters on the market at the time. Clearly publisher Microids believes that selling point still has some pull as it’s planning a remake for the PlayStation 4 – and it’s due out 13th November.
“Our goal is to bring XIII’s compelling story to a new generation of players with the best possible graphics and animation,” wrote François Coulon, Head of Production on the PlayStation Blog. “The result will be nothing short of spectacular as we promise to celebrate the amazing work done on the original game.”

How about a sequel?
That’s the best news I’ve heard all day!!
OMG ! i absolutely loved this game, i bought it for £1 from Game and it's the best quid i've ever spent lol It always felt like the spiritual successor to Goldeneye for me, the mix of shooting and stealth was so enjoyable, this is a day one buy for me
Was literally just talking about this game the other day after playing Rico on PS4 saying it had the same art style, what are the chances a week later they are remaking it for ps4 haha
Didn't David Duchovny voice the main character?
Remember playing this on a Official PlayStation 2 Demo disc... was pretty fun if I recall
Ooooo Yes yes yes!!! This is amazing. Someone nicked my copy at uni and ive always wanted to play it again. Day one!
This is great news, I am a huge fan of the game and there was also an American TV show based on the comics.
It sits around 72-73 on Metacritic and as a big fan of the comics I actually bought it day 1 and found it extremely underwhelming.
Hardly a classic, but a rather poor shooter IMO.
Yep, this really is a bargain bin classic along with 007: Nightfire.
Oh I can't wait for this. I absolutely loved playing the multiplayer mode when I was younger.
The graphics were very impressive I seem to remember, albeit through rose-tinted spectacles. A welcome blast from the past, though I'd only spend a tenner or so on it I think.
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Fox Mulder was my "main man" for quite a while during my youth and I regret having missed this game back in the day. Good to see it's being re-released so I can have a go at it after all these years.
I can't be the only one who finds this weird can I?
This teaser is so 007-y, just fantastic
And btw wasn't this actually a Ubisoft game when it first came out. Kinda odd that it's Microids that publishes it now.
This is one of those games I would recognize was around but never played. The box art was so unappealing.
@Zukato I think the box art sadly represents the in-game graphics quite well. The game never did the comic books drawn by William Vance (and written by Jean Van Hamme) nowhere near the justice they deserve IMO.
Great game! Terrible trailer.
I tried to buy a sealed copy for the sticker price at a local shop and the owner glanced at the game and told me 'half off'.
I got this game for like $10 new back in the day. It was bland & forgettable.
Just when I thought I was the only person who remembered (and loved) this game back in the day, I get this amazing news. I can't wait to play it again! Now, I just have to decide if I want to replay it for the PS4 or my Nintendo Switch.
@RedMan33 It’s an odd decision, for sure, but I remember enjoying this quite a bit back in the day. I’ll probably give this a go.
Pretty cool news for me! I loved this game on the original Xbox. It probably hasn't aged well though.
Still waiting for JSR Future though.
XIII was a great game. Still have my Gamecube copy. Between Tinesplitters 2 & 3, and Red Faction 2, XIII was unique and very underrated. Happy to see this coming back to all current gen platforms. 😄
@Frigate Nice to know it's on Hulu. I might have to sign up now
