Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice How to Kill Guardian Ape Boss Guide PS4 PlayStation 4

How do you kill the Guardian Ape in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice? This fearsome boss fight is one of the game's most outlandish, having you face off against a gigantic angry gorilla in Sunken Valley. His attacks are naturally very powerful, but as always, there are ways to take him down relatively quickly.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - How to beat the Guardian Ape

There are two phases to the fight with the Guardian Ape in Sekiro. For the first, your Flame Vent Prosthetic Tool will be very useful to cause burn damage and create an opening for some slicing and dicing. Ideally, you want to avoid his big attacks by getting behind him and attacking his rear. However, this won't always be an option, but you can deflect most of his attacks as normal. If you do find yourself around the back of him, watch out for a cloud of flatulence that will quickly inflict Poison status -- yes, really. Most of his attacks are fairly easy to deflect or avoid, and luckily, most of them end with him stopping in place for a second or so, letting you get a couple of hits in. Another useful Prosthetic Tool is the Shinobi Firecracker, which will also stun Guardian Ape in the first phase. Keep on the offensive and a Death Blow isn't far away.

The Guardian Ape starts the second phase of the fight with a new attack: an area of effect, Terror-inducing roar. This will swiftly kill you, so when he's winding up for this, run away and keep your distance until it's done. You should also have some Pacifying Agent handy to protect you from Terror. Otherwise, it's business as usual: deflect, dodge, attack. Shinobi Firecracker isn't as effective here, so use the Flame Vent if you have enough Spirit Emblems. You can jump over many of his attacks too, and this is a good way to get in close and deal some damage. This boss will need a fair amount of practice, but once you learn his tells and patterns, you should make short work of him.

Defeating the Guardian Ape will give you the Guardian Ape Memory, Slender Finger (used to make a Prosthetic Tool), and 4,000 XP. However, this isn't the end of it; to truly bring down the Guardian Ape, you'll have to follow this guide, which will also net you the 'Guardian Ape Immortality Severed' PS4 trophy.
