A French man has been handed a four-month suspended prison sentence for trying to pass off a PlayStation 4 as a bag of produce. The 19-year-old had the crafty idea of putting Sony’s system on a weighing counter intended for fruit and veg, and then paying for it via a self-checkout till. It means that he ended up stumping up around €9 (~$10) for the €340 (~$389) console.
He then went on to sell the system for €100 (~$114) and bought a train ticket with the profits. So effective was the scam, that the teenager tried to repeat it the next day, but was caught by police and sentenced this week. We imagine he probably wishes he'd purchased an orange now, but at least he only partially pilfered the platform, right?

That's bananas!
He would have got away with it, if he had split and went to another store... Although i guess it must have been a peeling to try and con them again... But its a slippery slope when crime gets under your skin like that... However he is surely going to spend a bunch of time in jail now
I kind of respect him for trying.
The real crime here is him selling the PS4 for a train ticket.
@dellyrascal Doesn't a suspended jail sentence mean he isn't going to jail?
Grapeness awaits.
That’s some really apple-ling behavior if you ask me.
@TowaHerschel7 Try getting a job with that. 😉
crazy that he could have gotten away with it if he did not try it again.
proves that many criminals get cought because they get greedy.
It makes you wonder how many similar cases were unnoticed until now.
Also that "French" man is called Adel, which is about as French as Osama is British
@TowaHerschel7 No he isn't. It means he'll get a 4 month jail sentence if he does it again. Kind of a first strike.
i guess that's the reason why most stores here now weigh at checkout...too many stolen ps4s hahaha
You can't self checkout electronics in US
@Miiamoto Congratulations! You've won the internet today.
Fruit pun. About bananas.

@mmarkster I’m not sure you can in Europe either, I would imagine it would usually flag staff if scanned.
He didn’t scan the PS4 though, he simply went to the self-checkout, put bananas as his item and then weighed the PS4. The system then adjusted the bagging area to that weight. When he put the PS4 onto the bagging area the system simply thought he had a large number of bananas that equalled that weight.
He then paid for the “bananas” and left the store.
