A dry week for new releases saw Red Dead Redemption 2 secure the strongest second week sales of any game in 2018 in the UK, as the critically acclaimed Western saw its physical units dip by just 51 per cent compared to its debut weekend. That’s a strong hold for a title already putting up huge numbers, and it hints that we can expect excellent legs for the long-awaited sequel.
To be honest, though, this was a fairly predictable week all things considered, with no meaningful releases on the PlayStation 4 to speak of. The top five continued to be dominated by blockbuster names like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and FIFA 19, while Marvel’s Spider-Man is still hanging around. We’ve included the full top ten below.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 3rd November, 2018
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
- FIFA 19
- Forza Horizon 4
- Marvel's Spider-Man
- Assassin's Creed Odyssey
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- LEGO Harry Potter Collection
- Football Manager 2019
- Mario Kart 8: Deluxe

I think RDR2 is going to be in the top 5 until February, and probably even beyond. Maybe all the way until PS5.
It’s probably gonna be on that list for a good long while.
Can't f*** with Red Dead.
@Th3solution looking forward to 4K locked 60FPS RDR2 on PC and next-generation consoles.
Funny seeing Crash back in the Top 10 again.
Gotta say I really like Arthur Morgan. Probably more than John Marston.
@beemo I dunno. I think it’s the most impressive game of the generation. I love it.
No game of the year award for Barlog now
Is GTAV finally out of the charts?😜
I wonder how AC Odyssey is doing?
It's already below two exclusives that launched before it.
The best game that I've played since The Witcher 3.
great game cant see fallout 76 doing well if you add fallout two numbers you get 13 ive had so much doom and gloom with the day and number rember i told you so
@Fight_Teza_Fight Tbh considering those exclusives are the biggest exclusives for each platform of the year I wouldn't see that as doing bad. If right from some cursory research it's staying up in the charts longer than any recent AC games
@delukze give it till were back in a quiet period and I'm positive GTA 5 will be back haunting the charts again
@get2sammyb really I think gow is easily better. That’s not to say I’m not liking my red dead playthrough I do but it’s gameplay is entirely mediocre while god of wars combat was one of the best this gen. I also feel there’s too much extra baggage to red dead like the survival mechanics which are superfluous and an annoyance with really no benefit of them even being there. There’s also too many actions dedicated to the same buttons, most stranger quests are just them trying to get you to hunt down their collectibles, camp requests are just boring fetch quests, talking to any npc is shallow with repeating lines and the main story missions literally use the exact same template as every open world rockstar game has for almost twenty years now. Gow had amazing gameplay,an amazing world to explore that rewarded you while opening up and wrapping back in on itself like the best soul maps and told a really good, emotional story of a father and son coming to terms with one another in a dangerous world that wants to kill them. Red dead just came out and is fresh in people’s minds while gow was way back in April so I can understand acting like no other game was as good as rdr this year but gow still gets my pick for goty and it’s not even close.
I really need to play more Red Dead 2. It coincided with an extremely busy week for me, but hopefully I'll be able to put a bit more time in now. What I've played so far has been very good.
@Psydomia I’m sure it’s done amazing, just think there’s a lot less ‘talk’ about it.
Origins was part of the mindshare for ages. I guess RDR2 is taking up all of that coversation now.
@delukze More like GTAV passed the baton to RDR2.
@beemo I agree on expectations, I thought it'll be like the first, to the point I'm not enjoying it as much.
Still an ace game though.
@dark_knightmare2 I largely agree with you, the control setup is just flat out rubbish with square or triangle being used to loot which means I've picked up bodies or sat by a campfire too often and L2 being shared for talking and aiming is just plain dumb, yet we have a dedicated button for changing the camera? The menu's are too fussy and the game likes to remove my guns every so often or put them away if I use a health item so I'm defenceless. This morning I was being attacked for no reason, went to aim but forgot I may have to press R2 as well as L2 at which point Arthur decided to pull out a scoped rifle and zoom in on some grass whilst I was getting shot, I eventually fumbled through the menu to get a pistol and killed him but somehow I lost honour for that?
The world is amazing but there is definitely some smoke and mirrors going on and when peeled back you realise how little has changed since it's predecessor, if anything many things have gone backwards as they've tinkered with it for the sake of it such as hunting. Ultimately I do enjoy the game, it just seems to have some new way of bugging me every time I play.
As for GOTY, God of War is miles ahead for me and is practically flawless and my only complaint about Spiderman was the lack of any meaningful side content
@dark_knightmare2
There are only two types of gameplay : amazing or medicore.
..s
I do understand people have their preference and the controls in RDR2 are not of everyones liking. However it is a fact that the two games are two fantastic games besides being very different games difficuilt to compare.
I dont even feel the need to say which is the best blah blah because what the hell? (Though its clear which I like best haha)
Edit:
Ill just say that GOW was not perfect. I loved the game because of great combat gameplay and the setting was great. Im sorry but the storyline (and its mainly a story driven linear game) was not exceptional.
I respect your opinion even though I disagree. Gow story was amazing to me I loved watching Kratos and atreus relationship grow throughout the journey,it had awesome lore,a compelling villain and a jaw dropping ending. It’s open world while nowhere near as big as rdr 2 was more compelling to explore imo because of its Metroidvania/souls design and it being fantasy it of course had better variety of enemies plus bosses. I don’t agree that there’s only amazing or mediocre gameplay there can be games with ok,good, bad etc gameplay and I would never call rdr 2 gameplay good it’s mediocre all the way and doesn’t even compare to gow amazing combat. The combat in rdr 2 would be bad if it wasn’t for the saving grace of dead eye making it tolerable and the controls are just too finicky and wonky to be anything other than mediocre and when compared to gow it just doesn’t stack up in the gameplay department . I love rdr 2 easily my second or third favorite game this year but gameplay rates the highest with me in a game so with regards to goty like I said I think it’s still gow and it’s not close in my eyes.
@JoeBlogs Yeah I'm not trying to be negative, I tend to point out flaws more than the good points in games.
When everything in this game comes together it is amazing and it's definitely one of my top 3 this year and up there with the very best this generation has to offer. I'm just more of an old school guy and will always have gameplay as the most important aspect and unfortunately for Rockstar the likes of God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider-Man have moved the goalposts in terms of interacting with a game and how much fun it is to contol the characters. As far as world building goes they have few equals
