The speculation regarding a historical Battlefield 5 is really heating up now. There was, of course, that "leak" from a retailer earlier in the year – and now EA Games has released a teaser trailer showing what appears to be a soldier in a World War I-era trench coat. Now we should stress that you can't see enough of the troop's clobber in order to get an accurate read on the time period, but it definitely looks like a historical jacket to us.

And developer DICE has certainly been teasing that online. Making fun of the Call of Duty account's infamous poop emoji tweet, senior media director Randy Evans said: "So fun to see everyone's excitement and predictions about the teaser. Tomorrow is gonna be messy." Meanwhile, ex-Battlefield boss Ben Cousins posted a link to the Wikipedia page for Codename Eagle – an old DICE game set in 1917. Hmm.

All will be revealed later today, as EA Games has scheduled a special media event to announce the new title. We'll bring you all of the big news as and when it breaks, so stay tuned. In the meantime, though, let us know: are you ready for a historical shooter? It would be a nice change of pace from all of the future warfare stuff, eh?
