No Man's Sky is, without doubt, one of the most important PlayStation 4 games of the year, so it should come as no surprise that Sony's lining up a Blu-ray release for the console exclusive. Similarly obvious is that the organisation's plotting a special edition for the space-faring sim, which will include a comic book outlining some of the title's lore by sci-fi veterans Dave Gibbons, James Swallow, and Angus McKie.
The extra will be packaged inside the limited edition alongside a steel book case, a 48-page art book, some bonus in-game DLC, and a dynamic PS4 theme. It'll be available in both Europe and North America on launch day. In fact, if you pre-order from GameStop in the USA, you'll also blag some additional content, including the Rezosu Z65 mining tool, a little bit of currency, and the upgraded Alpha Vector ship. You know you want it!

I wonder if it's enough to justify the $80...
Edit: to clarify, I really am hyped for this game. But I was expecting $40 for standard and $60 for special editions of they existed, so I'm just curious about content now.
Kinda interested in this game now. Gonna wait and see if Amazon has it available for pre-order.
Is it only availabe in the US?
If they'd announced a soundtrack vinyl I'd have been on that like Sammy on Taylor Swift gifs. I really like 65Daysofstatic as well.
I'm in!
I'll admit, I love the logo and the box art, it's gorgeous.
I'd definitely like the artbook. The art for the game is definitely amazing, even if I'm not 100% sold on the game.
@flummerfelt I have a few sets like this. You get it, you're excited, you open it up and look at everything for a few minutes (including the tiny, tiny art book), and then it collects dust on your shelf forever.
I'll buy sets that come with a statue or something that I'll display year round, but something like this... I just see it as a waste of money.
I also find that the DLC these types of sets come with is pretty lackluster. Usually weapons/armor that are slightly more powerful for the first few levels and then worthless afterward, and maybe some type of exclusive in-game insignia that no one cares about (especially as a third of all people in game have it).
@DerMeister I'd like a full sized art book, but the ones that comes with these sets are tiny.
I'm so disappointed that we aren't getting the awesome PC collector's ed.
@Johnnycide They have!

How much does it cost in GBP?
The boxart is so cool! If it gets nice reviews I'll buy it;)
@glassmusic and I just preordered it. Thanks for the heads up!
EDIT: 50 quid. Hnnnnnnnnngggggg
Totally worth it.
@glassmusic Yeah, that's something I can agree with.
On a side note, I just noticed that this has the "PS4 Console Exclusive" tag SFV got.
@Johnnycide was that from their US store? iam8bit have a UK store too which normally has cheaper delivery - might be worth checking out? I was looking at getting the Banner Saga vinyl from there and it came to around £35
Also are we all going to ignore the fact that, while nice enough, we've been fobbed off a bit here. All the fuss about it being a big PS4 game, and PC get the far better special edition, coming with a replica spaceship!!
@SteveButler2210 damn, thanks. I'll have a look.
Yep. Same price as it's shipping from the USA. Still worth it though. It's a collectors item as it is.
some bonus in-game DLC,
Why has this game got dlc? I thought it was all included out of the box.
100% day one for me, I NEVER buy special editions, but this one is just to gorgeous to pass on! Will be counting down the days!!
@Johnnycide There is a vinyl soundtrack, I read you can get it from iam9bit.com, same place that you can get the special edition for PC, which includes a cast metal ship model. I pre-ordered the PS4 Ltd Ed from Gamestop though, for the extras.
@Johnnycide edit: didnt see that someone else already told you. Also, iam8bit, not 9bit, lol!
@themcnoisy DLC can have different definitions. Kinda like CDProjekt Red included all that free "DLC" with the game, and then released paid "expansions". The DLC is mostly starting currency and ship/weapon buffs, not stuff that you probably wouldnt find later on anyway, just to get you started a little bit ahead.
Um, you serious?
A special edition... that doesn't actually include a video game inside.
@JaxonH Don't you think the game disc is in the steelbox that says "includes PS4 game"?
It's the first sentence in the article -
"so it should come as no surprise that Sony's lining up a Blu-ray release"
My 11 year old told me to write that to you, you're kind of a celebrity around here, I don't know.
@rjejr
I saw in page listing it does have the disc.
But this article listed everything EXCEPT game disc when spelling out the contents, which made it seem as if the "blu-ray" was some documentary fan crap included as a bonus.
After Minecraft Vita, and Lara Croft and Temple of Osiris, I'm VERY paranoid about retail releases that don't include a physical disc.
So unless they specifically say "GAME DISC INCLUDED" I remain sketchy. Even the store listing just says "Steelbook with game" not "game DISC". I've opened up physical cases to see my game printed as a code on a voucher many times before, so at least cut me a tiny bit of slack :/
Definitely the version I want, the artwork is gorgeous.
@JaxonH I'll tell my 11 year old to let it slide next time.
OK, time to go watch the new Zelda trailer.
I don't normally care for things like this(just normal additions for me) but that looks lovely
is the dynamic theme procedural as well???
Got my limited edition preordered today!
It certainly looks nice, though it seems the PC version is the better one if what @SteveButler2210 said is true.
I'd be down to get this if I wasn't so unsure about this game. I'll be waiting until plenty of video reviews come out before I decide to pick it up or not.
Dat cover art though! Seriously thay cover art is the best I have seen in a long time, imo of course. Gotta have it.
"a little bit of currency"
Does this game sell currency?
Yeah, that Vinyl is looking pretty sweet. I might be a sucker for NMS collectors edition too. The art is excellent.
Thanks to Amazon Prime's pre order price, this will only be $67, which is worth it to me. Oh boy oh boy, I sure am hyped.
@Deadlyblack Yup, I jumped on that deal rather quickly too! Can't wait to play this!
For those planning to get the PC version.
The art of this game is amazing, true "vintage" sci fi... I am loving it (and is probably the best part of Destiny too).
This limited edition has written "buy me" all over the place
Absolutely can't wait. Haven't pre-ordered a special edition in a long time but think I'm gonna have to in this instance.
@JaxonH The game is included.
@PorllM
Ya I know. I posted that above right afterwards.
Thanks though
Oh its a GAME exclusive in the UK that puts me right off
My only issue is the steel case.
I have a FFXII special edition with a steel case, and after several years it actually started to rust. XD
