Ultra Street Fighter IV PS4 Capcom Pro Tour

Well, well, well – this is all rather sad and embarrassing, isn't it? Sony looked like it had the fighting game community locked down a few weeks ago, but its plans are in tatters right now. While, yes, Street Fighter V is still very much a PlayStation 4 and PC exclusive, the Japanese giant's port of Ultra Street Fighter IV was supposed to keep quarter-circle superstars occupied until the brawler's release next year – but it's been a disaster so far.

While the manufacturer states that it's looking into a patch, the input lag and framerate issues have caused professional players to heavily criticise the port – especially as it was announced as the version that would be used at tournaments a few weeks back. However, publisher Capcom has already changed its plans, announcing that its Pro Tour league will be ditching the PS4 release until its issues are resolved.

"A lot of our more competitive players have wondered how the Ultra Street Fighter IV version on PS4 will affect them and the tour," a spokesperson wrote on Capcom Unity. "To that we'd like to advise that the integrity of the Capcom Pro Tour is a top priority for us and we will continue to work with tournament organisers worldwide to ensure that the highest quality event will be run."

The company continued: "Each region will maintain its current hardware standard for the remainder of the 2015 Capcom Pro Tour until otherwise announced. We will keep you updated as to when the PS4 version of Ultra Street Fighter IV will be integrated into the Pro Tour. SCEA and Capcom are currently looking into the issues that some users may be experiencing and are working to resolve them as quickly as possible."

It's worth noting that, while this is a Capcom game, the port was handled by Sony's Third-Party Productions team and Other Ocean Interactive. Organisers of EVO – the world's biggest fighting game tournament – have said that they're currently evaluating which version of Ultra Street Fighter IV to use at this year's event in July.

It, er, wasn't supposed to be like this...
