How we’d love to be a fly on the wall at Evolution Studios right now. DriveClub’s launch has quite possibly been the biggest disaster since... Well, that comparison’s ugly and inappropriate, so we won’t go there. The point is, though, that a game sold on its network functionality should be playable online right now, so the fact that it’s still a mess is a good ol’ kick in the teeth.
As we’ve stressed before, we fully understand that server hiccups like this can occur, but the key when it does happen is a fast response and plenty of communication. At least the Runcorn-based developer’s got the latter down now, posting daily briefings on its Facebook page. That won’t come as an enormous amount of consolation to those still waiting to play their game, though.
“During the next 24 hours, we are running essential diagnostics to help us improve the performance of the servers,” a studio spokesperson said today. “This may disrupt online play for you when you do get connected.” Perhaps that should read 'if you get connected'. “We’re sorry that we don't have more news to share right now, but we will keep working hard to get you all up and running online as quickly as we can.”
To be honest, our disappointment has almost drifted into apathy at this point. Are you still eager to play the cursed exclusive racer, or has your attention wandered elsewhere? Try to start your engine in the comments section below.

Can't believe this is still going on. It seems as if they are taking the necessary steps though. I wouldn't be surprised if we get the ps plus version with the store update next week, possibly with a bit more compensation, bonus cars or something, nothing crazy, or even a lowered price for the full game upgrade, they'd win bak a lot of people with that.
and this is why I don't like games based around an online service, too many problems not to mention when they shut down the servers then the game is useless
Oh my, they still didn't release? Good I didn't shell out 60€ for the box version, I would be so pissed. On the other hand, when will they learn that on launch there's ALWAYS boom, it is like 110% of traffic during the first week and then it gets less and less until it settles on a daily average
@KomrathDE I think, these things are difficult to deal with, clearly. But, they never ran an open beta for this game, and I don't think I've ever seen server issues be this protracted for a non-MMO launch. It doesn't sound like it's going to be ready any time soon, either.
Driveclub would have been a day one purchase for me when ps4 was released. But with all the problems that have dogged it's delay and now it's release i doubt I'll buy it anymore. Guess I'll try the ps+ version when we eventually get it but it would have to blow my socks off for me to consider buying the upgrade now. It's a bloody shame really but I've just lost interest in the title.
They have never had any big problems with their past games(can't think of any) So i am not going to slag them off like most of the internet is doing + At least everyone can join the online 'MoanClub' this week
@Carl-G Very good!
We need updates on BBC news 24, this is the worst disaster since Noah and the great flood. Anyway, so when can I download this tripe? I downloaded the free car.. hmmm, pointless.
Well, last night I managed to connect to the servers, and join Mad's PushSquare club. Nothing more than that though. I've had it since Wednesday but UK launch wasn't until today, so I've no reason to expect server functionality prior to today.
It's shame there wasn't enough forethought server-side to prevent the connectivity issues, though I'm inclined to see that as a Sony issue.
Driveclub potentially had the exact same install base as Destiny (I doubt very many people not using Plus would've bothered with Destiny), every PS4 with Plus was intended to be able to play it. That in mind, there really should be some hefty servers in place.
The single player game is plenty strong enough though. Evolution have done a good job making an accessible, challenging and compelling racer. It's actually not massively removed from MotorStorm, in a lot of ways.
The lead up to Driveclub and the current issues will see people writing it off without trying it. Well, more fool them.

This game can be played Offline.
I think the game is brilliant. These new tracks are a breath of fresh air from the typical real life race tracks we have been using for years. The lighting effects are amazing, transition for day to dusk to night while you drive is stunning. When they add Dynamic weather, Replays, and Photo mode this game will be legendary.
If you buy the full game upgrade it's only £35 (UK) and to be honest I have been playing on the offline mode and the game itself is very enjoyable and as there is a lack of racers on ps4 I would recommend driveclub. I don't care about the online features so for the lower price of £35 I am very happy with this game.
Nope still not buying it even though I've waited for a year to get it. I'm sure they won't mind people boycotting this game cause they can't pull their fingers out of their behind.
@Bad-MuthaAdebis Wow. I guess you can now download a car :/
I've been waiting for a good racing game since the PS4 first launched nearly a year ago. I do have GT5 for my PS3 and Grid for my XB360 which I still think is one of the best all round racers, but what I want is a true next gen racer. It would have been great if Wipeout or a new GT was available at launch but they weren't and neither was DriveClub, which was going to be a full FREE AAA PS4 launch game. Now, nearly a year later we're still waiting for a game that had an extra 10 months of development time and because of that extra time we're were told we wouldn't be getting the full retail version for free. Thats is fair enough as I understand its cost more time and money to develop so from a business point of view it wouldn't be viable to just give it away. But now we're still waiting for a game that has got mixed reviews and is surrounded in conspiracy. I feel sorry for those that have already spent money on it and can't even play it.
I think no matter what they do now they're never going to see a return on there time and money. I, like alot of others will just play the PlayStation Plus free version until something better comes along. I just hope Project Cars is a good game.
Sony really needs a killer first party must own game as so far they've failed on that point. Killzone looked great but got repetitive, inFAMOUS Second Son was great to look at and great to play but was lacking in content. First Light should have been included in the full game although I am enjoying it. LBP 3 will be fine but it won't sell systems and you can get it on PS3.
I have a strong feeling that The Order 1886 will be a letdown too.
Sony has some of the best game studios in the industry, but aside from Uncharted 4, which is a safe bet, but also a long way off, we haven't seen anything that special.
So far my favourite games on PS4 are The Last of Us, Diablo 3 and Tomb Raider but they're all last gen games.
Do we know when the weather system will be updated? I totally love this game and cant wait to see the rain and snow effects.
Also, a good pair of headphones makes a big difference when playing this game. I am used to playing mario kart where it doesnt really matter, to be honest.
Where wpuld my mind wander to?
There are no other"real" racing games on ps4 right now.
I'm just stuck waiting, but my anger has decreased and I spend the money on fifa15.
Evolution will get my money when they drop the price...unless the psn free version proved tp be awesome.
I bought a few racing games during the psn sale a couple weeks ago so I'm good for now.
I read that first few lines in troy bakers voice O.o
