Sony may have shut down legendary WipEout developer Studio Liverpool, but that hasn’t stopped a number of new UK teams from rising out of the organisation’s ashes. One such outfit is R8 Games, which, rather than branch out and do something new, has decided to make the anti-grav sequel that you’ve been longing for – just with a different name.
Originally dubbed SlamJet Racing, but now going through a rebranding process to the equally bad Formula Fusion, this concept video promises explosive action, extreme speed, and a stash of ridiculous weapons better than those tucked inside James Bond’s tuxedo. The studio’s going for a more F1 focus here, which appears to build upon the slightly more grounded nature of WipEout 2048.
There’s no word on platforms or even a release date yet, with the firm stating that it created this trailer primarily to get feedback from fans. We reckon that R8 Games should show it to Sony Worldwide Studios exec Michael Denny, get the WipEout branding slapped on it, and call it a day. That would certainly be, er, something, wouldn’t it?

Seems like it needs much work, because Wipeout 2048 looks better. But I'm not interested, I'll just stick with the Wipeout I have.
@XFsWorld It's a very early concept demo. I dunno about 2048 looking better, though.
Looks nice, not digging that pivot on the vehicles though- looks like it controls like so many mobile WipEout ripoffs. Time will tell I suppose.
'48 is great, but at this point I'd take port of HD Fury for PS4.
Even another eXtreme G actually; XGIII and XGRA were both very, very good!
I would (not really) kill for a next-gen WipEout. If this fits the bill, get on it, Sony.

I couldn't agree more with that. They don't even have to make any changes! Just let me play it on my PS4, and yes, I'll pay for the game again in order to do that.
@glassmusic
Oh I dunno, if I'm paying again I want remastered '48 along for the ride too
@KALofKRYPTON I could deal with that!
Now we just need to bring the studio back from the dead...
@glassmusic
I think most of the key players ended up at Evolution.
Agree 100% on the Ps4 Wipeout HD port, would buy it again in a second!
Anyways this does look promising. One to keep an eye on.
Ooh,i'll go for some of that please..it looks like it has potential.i wish i never sold my ps3,i'd go for wipeout hd port for ps4.Yes also to a new rollcage and extreme g ahem,i'm getting bit carried away i guess.
Wasn't there another dev made up of ex studio Liverpool guys who helped on the Playroom & were rumoured to be making a PS4 exclusive?

I love that series. My friend did some research into who owns the licensing for that now, and it doesn't look like a company that's gonna do anything with it sadly.
I'm really excited for this!
@adf86 https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2013/12/sonys_studio_liverpool_rises_from_the_ashes_as_firesprite ..No games announced yet,but they want to make a new wipeout as well..Whats not to want about it? I hope R8 go ahead with this "Formula Fusion" and really get the feeling of speed and the handling just right.Not sure about the look of the vehicles,i like the more traditional wipeout look -i wonder what the cockpit/first person view looks like?
Wipeout was probably the first game I played on the PlayStation 1 and was blown away with how good the gameplay was. I couldn't believe that the actual music was real instead of the old school Super Nintendo 8 bit sounds I was used too back in the early 1990's.
Me and my friends were only recently talking about how we'd love a new Wipeout for the PlayStation 4 so to here this news makes me very happy.
I think Sony needs to blow the dust off of there old classic games and bring them to the PlayStation 4.
After playing F-Zero GX on the GameCube for many years, I never did take well to the control of other futuristic racers. I crave that super precise control, where the cars don't do a half tail spin when you turn. That's what gets me every time. The controls never feel right to me. And I like the super fast turns in crazy directions, with double air brakes to turn 180 degrees in a fraction of a second. That's what I want out of a hover racer.
But, seeing as Nintendo is content in torturing me to the end of time with no new F-Zero, I find myself gravitating toward games like this. Then I play them, get disappointed in the controls and lack of crazy turns in tracks, and just go play F-Zero GX.
Maybe one day I'll play a good hover racer again. Wipeout 2048 was decent. First one that I could actually stand playing longer than 10 min. Shame that studio is gone too. I can't even get a second best game, nope!
Well, I take that back. FAST Racing League was terrific and FAST Racing Neo is on the way. I'd forgotten about that one. And I'll keep an eye on this too, though I'm not really impressed with this footage. It's all strait-a-ways and poor turning mechanics from what I could see.
