Rest well sweet prince

Sony has announced that it has finalised its takeover of Ericsson, and renamed the mobile area of its business to the rather snazzy (but generic) Sony Mobile Communications in the process.

The Japanese giant says that the takeover will allow the company to “further integrate the mobile phone business” into its electronics operations, opening up new convergence opportunities across Sony’s range of networked products. There’s definitely a subtle nod towards PlayStation Suite buried amongst the PR mumbo-jumbo.

Of course, this is just the boring business stage of the takeover, with the fascinating part to follow. It's going to be interesting to see just what strategy Sony Mobile Communications adopts going forwards. Given current trends, we expect gaming to play a big part of it.
