Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will celebrate the original games in the extreme sports series.

We've been desperate for a new "classic" Tony Hawk game for a while, and finally Activision is set to deliver — drawing on a generous helping of nostalgia in the process.

In addition to the digital downloadable's collection of classic stages, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will also feature a mixture of new and old skaters. Names include: Eric Koston, Andrew Reynolds, Rodney Mullen, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins (Pastrana), Nyjah Huston, Chris Cole, Riley Hawk, and, of course, Tony Hawk. Nope, we don't know who they are either.

In order to quell concerns online, Activision's Dan Amrich has confirmed that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will not require an additional peripheral. "Yes — you use a standard game controller," he said.

Speaking at the VGAs, Tony Hawk said that the gamers still enjoy the old-school Tony Hawk gameplay because of its replayability.

"People can come back to it and find new challenges to do, not just the ones we set up for them. But we're going back to the old two minute challenges, collect the letters, get the combos, get the scores. I'm out of my mind excited about it."

We were seriously considering picking up a used copy of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 before this game was announced, so we're beyond excited to finally get our hands on it.
