GTA Online: How to Start a Safehouse in the Hills and Best Mansions to Buy

A Safehouse in the Hills is an endgame update for GTA Online including a new mansion property and several story missions featuring Michael from the main campaign.

How Do You Start the KnoWay Out Contact Missions in GTA Online?

After you've updated the game to the latest version, load into Los Santos and you'll get a text message from Avi Schwartzman, who'll tell you to go to the payphone at Xero Gas Station on Calais Avenue.

Load the map and set a way point to the 'A', labelled KnoWay Out. It's in Little Seoul, just west of Lamar's garage.

Answering the call will trigger a cut-scene, where Avi will inform you about a new network of driverless taxis which are all the rage in Los Santos. He says payphones are the only things not being monitored around the city.

After the call, he'll direct you to another payphone, this time in Alta, near to a Suburban clothes store. Drive to it and answer the phone to begin the first mission of the new storyline, Negative Press.

How Many KnoWay Out Contact Missions Are There in GTA Online?

There are six KnoWay Out Contact Missions in GTA Online.

They are:

• Inside Job
• Tunnel Vision
• Trash Talking
• A Clean Break
• Home Sweet Home

What Are the Career Rewards for Completing the KnoWay Out Contact Missions in GTA Online?

Completing the KnoWay Out Contact Missions will unlock a series of tiered Career Rewards in GTA Online.

To see your progress, press Options > Career > Contact Missions > KnoWay Out.

The rewards are:

Tier 1

• Complete Negative Press

Reward: KnoWay Hoodie

Tier 2

• Complete A Clean Break
• Complete a KnoWay Out mission without dying

Reward: FIB Bomber

Tier 3

• Complete a KnoWay Out mission on Hard
• Complete all KnoWay Out missions on Hard

Reward: KnoWay Tee

Tier 4

• Earn GTA$5,000,000 from KnoWay Out
• Complete all KnoWay Out missions on Hard without using Snacks or Armour
• Complete KnoWay Out in under 60 minutes

Reward: The Hacker

Do You Need a Mansion to Start the KnoWay Out Contact Missions in GTA Online?

No, unlike most other updates in GTA Online, you won't need to own a mansion to get the initial text message from Avi Schwartzman, allowing you to start the KnoWay Out Contact Missions.

This is a relief, because as we're about to discover, the mansions in GTA Online are extremely expensive, and intended for endgame players.

What's the Best Mansion to Buy in GTA Online?

There are three mansions you can buy in GTA Online as part of the A Safehouse in the Hills update. You can purchase them from Prix Luxury Real Estate, which you'll find a sponsored link to on the EyeFind homepage.

The three mansions are:

The Tongva Estate

GTA$11,500,000

Richman Villa

GTA$12,800,000

The Vinewood Residence

GTA$12,200,000

All three mansions are identical in terms of functionality, so it doesn't really matter which one you buy. As always, we'd recommend you consider proximity to your other businesses, although a new fast travel feature does mitigate that issue somewhat.

As a note, each mansion includes 20 new garage slots, and yes you can own all three mansions if you want to. (But more on that below.)

What Are the Best Customisations to Buy for Your Mansion in GTA Online?

As with any property or business in GTA Online, you're able to customise it to your tastes. Some of these options are more valuable than others, as outlined below:

Interior (Up to GTA$957,500)

Purely cosmetic and down to personal taste.

Armory (GTA$720,000)

Useful if you're planning to spend a lot of time in your mansion, but you may own several Armories already.

Arcade (GTA$950,000)

The domain of any playboy who still loves their toys. Allows you to add any cabinets you own from your Arcade business.

Podium (GTA$650,000)

Allows you to show off your favourite vehicle to all your friends. Unnecessary but fun for those who enjoy burning cash.

Vehicle Workshop (GTA$880,000)

Again, you probably already own many Vehicle Workshops, but the convenience could be appealing here. If you're a GTA+ member you'll also get access to Benny's Original Motor Works, Hao's Special Works, Drift Tuning, and the Lock-On Jammer upgrades.

Security (GTA$1,750,000)

The most essential customisation in our opinion. Owning this will reduce the risk of raids on your other businesses, and if you've already purchased security for those, this will eliminate the threat entirely.

AI Assistant (GTA$0)

The AI Assistant is included free with each mansion, although you can select your desired personality from three options: Angel, Haviland, and OG.

Can You Own More Than One Mansion in GTA Online?

Yes, you can own all three mansions in Los Santos if you want to. There's no real advantage to doing so, aside from the additional garage slots. But heck, you may as well flash the cash if you've got it to burn, eh?

How Do You Decorate Your Mansion in GTA Online?

It's possible to decorate your mansion using with trophies you've unlocked during your career and various different pieces of artwork you can buy.

To do that, simply enter your mansion and hold down the Touch Pad to bring up the Interaction Menu > Mansion Management > Customization.

Many of the artworks and ornaments are free to choose between; others need to be purchased with GTA$ or unlocked by completing certain missions.

How Do You Purchase Pets for Your Mansion in GTA Online?

No luxury home is complete without a designer pet or two.

You can purchase a dog by interacting with the kennel just outside the living room of your mansion.

Meanwhile, you can purchase a cat by interacting with the bed next to your sofa in the living room.

You can name both of your pets whatever you'd like to after purchasing them, and yes you can pet them too.

All available dogs cost GTA$15,000, and the varieties include:

• Husky
• Poodle
• Pug
• Retriever
• Rottweiler
• Shepherd
• Westy

All available cats cost GTA$15,000, and come in the following colours:

• White
• Calico
• Ginger
• Gray
• Black
