Ghost Of Tsushima 20200630160326

What are Mythic Tales in Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut? What rewards do you get from them? Mythic Tales are in-depth and often lengthy quests that have Jin pursue some kind of legend. In order to start a Mythic Tale and have it added to your map, you need to talk to characters in towns and other settlements. If someone has a speech bubble above their head, have a chat with them and they just might set you on the path towards a Mythic Tale.

In this Ghost of Tsushima guide, we're going to detail all of the Mythic Quests in the game, and what you get for completing them. Completing all of the Mythic Tales unlocks the Teller of Tales Trophy. For a full list of Trophies and how to unlock them all, be sure to check out our in depth walkthrough: Ghost of Tsushima: All Trophies and How to Get the Platinum.

Ghost of Tsushima: All Mythic Tales and Rewards

Below you'll find a list of all the Mythic Tales in Ghost of Tsushima, along with rundowns of how to complete them, and what rewards they offer.

Some Mythic Tales can only be accessed as the story progresses. As such, this list is organised by which Mythic Tales are available in which acts of the story.

There are a total of 7 Mythic Tales in Ghost of Tsushima.

Ghost of Tsushima: Mythic Tales in Act 1

These are the Mythic Tales that you can tackle right at the start of the game, once Jin is thrown out into the open world and he's completed a couple of main quests.

There are 3 Mythic Tales available in Act 1, but don't worry if you miss any — you can always return to previous parts of the map and seek them out whenever you like.

The Heavenly Strike

The Heavenly Strike Mythic Tale sees Jin track down a powerful swordsman who has been murdering his way across the countryside. After picking up the quest, simply follow the killer's tracks, completing each objective as you go.

Your reward for completing The Heavenly Strike is the Heavenly Strike itself — a lightning quick and deadly attack that costs 1 resolve to use in battle.

For more information on Heavenly Strike and other powerful techniques, refer to our in-depth technique guide: Ghost of Tsushima: All Techniques and Best Techniques to Learn.

The Curse of Uchitsune

The Curse of Uchitsune Mythic Quest tasks Jin with seeking out a supposedly cursed longbow. Once you have a lead on the longbow, simply follow the objectives on your map as the Tale progresses.

Your reward for completing The Curse of Uchitsune is Uchitsune's fabled longbow. The longbow is different to the half bow that you get during the main story from Sensei Ishikawa. It's capable of piercing Mongol armour, meaning that it can headshot warriors who wear helmets. However, it's much slower to draw than the half bow.

The Legend of Tadayori

The Legend of Tadayori follows Jin as he searches for the legendary bowman's armour. Again, once you have a lead on the quest, simply follow the objective markers on your map. You'll eventually find the armour.

Your reward for completing The Legend of Tadayori is — yep, you guessed it — Tadayori's Armour. The armour is a fantastic choice if you like using bows in combat.

Ghost of Tsushima: Mythic Tales in Act 2

The following Mythic Tales can only be completed once you reach Act 2 of the main story.

There are 3 Mythic Tales in Act 2.

The Unbreakable Gosaku

The Unbreakable Gosaku has Jin tracking down another legendary armour set. Once you have a lead on the quest, you'll be tasked with gathering six keys from six different farmsteads dotted around the island. The keys can then be used to open the gate to Gosaku's place of rest. Don't worry about having to travel up and down the island looking for the farmsteads — they'll be marked on your map as soon as you start the Tale.

Note, however, that three of the six farmsteads are actually located back in the starting province of the game, and it's possible to discover this quest early by liberating these farmsteads as soon as Act 2 begins, but the Tale won't be activated in your journal until you begin the quest at the proper location.

The reward for completing The Unbreakable Gosaku is Gosaku's Armour, which is a very effective set to have.

The Spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance

The Spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance sees Jin follow up on rumours of a malevolent ghost that stalks the ruins of Yarikawa. Once you have a lead, all you have to do is investigate the white smoke that's rising from different parts of the ruins and you'll quickly progress through this Tale.

The reward for completing The Spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance is the immensely powerful Dance of Wrath technique, which costs 3 resolve to use during battle.

The Six Blades of Kojiro

The Six Blades of Kojiro is one of the longest Mythic Tales in the game. Jin catches the eye of an elite Straw Hat Ronin who's said to be a demon in human form. This warrior's name is Kojiro, and along with his five most trusted swordsmen, he challenges Jin to a series of deadly duels across the countryside. Once you have the quest active, the locations of these duels are marked on your map.

The reward for completing The Six Blades of Kojiro is the Kensei Armour set. It's a deadly outfit that can be incredibly powerful when used correctly.

Ghost of Tsushima: Mythic Tales in Act 3

The following Mythic Tales can only be accessed once you've reached Act 3 of the main story.

There is only 1 Mythic Tale in Act 3.

The Undying Flame

The Undying Flame is perhaps the trickiest of all the Mythic Tales. In it, Jin must climb the foreboding Mount Jogaku. It's essentially a series of platforming challenges, but the twist is that you have to move quickly — spend too long out in the snow and Jin will freeze to death. You can negate the effects of the cold by lighting the campfires that dot the treacherous path up the mountain. Don't worry too much if you die, though — each campfire acts as a checkpoint.

The reward for completing The Undying Flame is the Way of the Flame technique. It's a powerful special move that costs Incendiary Oil — a resource that's made available once you unlock the technique.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut - Mythic Tales on Iki Island

The following Mythic Tales can only be found in Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, as part of the Iki Island expansion.

There are 2 Mythic Tales on Iki Island.

The Legend of Black Hand Riku

This lengthy Mythic Tale has Jin hunt down the legendary, ruthless pirate known as Black Hand Riku. It's said that Riku's armour was possessed by a ferocious monkey spirit, which drove Riku to fight for more and more glory, even at the cost of his own body and mind.

Jin first encounters the tale of Black Hand Riku at Fune's Refuge — a location that opens up to you early on in the Iki Island main story. Once you've heard the legend, you can follow the Mythic Tale through your quest journal. It leads Jin across a large stretch of the island.

The reward for completing The Legend of Black Hand Riku is the Sarugami Armor. In the hands of a skilled player, the Sarugami Armor is arguably the best armor in the entire game. You can read more about its effects in our in-depth armour guide: Ghost of Tsushima: Best Armor and All Armor Sets You Can Unlock.

The Legacy of Kazumasa Sakai

This Mythic Tale sees Jin learn of his father's horse armour, which is said to be cursed. You first hear this story at the Sheltered Campsite, on the Eastern coast of Iki Island. Jin must traverse a treacherous series of ship wrecks in order to find the armour. Doing so is fairly straightforward, although there are some slightly tricky platforming puzzles along the way.

The reward for completing The Legacy of Kazumasa Sakai is the Sakai Horse Armor, which can be equipped on your horse. It looks fantastic, and it adds various buffs to both Jin and his trusty steed.
