For roughly the first 10 hours of the Main Story, you won't have access to Relationship Levels. This is because they're introduced during Act 2, and actually relate to Verso's relationship with the other main characters rather than Gutsave.

Once you have Verso in your party, you can go to the Camp on The Continent and begin increasing Relationship Levels. For information covering are there romance options, click the link.

You can start a relationship with Lune, Maelle, Sciel, Esquie, and Monoco. To do this, talk to them around the campfire at Camp, and if they have a scene that'll increase your Relationship Level, you'll be asked whether you want to spend time with them. You should always accept this offer.

It's important to understand that increasing Relationship Levels isn't the same as it is in Persona. In Persona, you must make a choice about who you spend your time with because the game works on a clock, and doing something with one character means you can't spend that same time with another.

In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you don't need to worry about that. Once you've watched the scene that increases your Relationship Level with one character, you'll return to Camp and be able to interact with another. You can even watch back-to-back scenes with a single character and increase your Relationship Level with them twice.

As such, you don't have to concern yourself with spending time with Lune over Sciel, for example, because one of them might not be available the next day. They're always there — as long as you're checking the Camp regularly, you will not miss any scenes.

The maximum Relationship Level is 7, and along the way you'll unlock better and more powerful Gradient Attacks. As well as learning more about the characters and developing their relationships, the mechanic helps out in battle, too.
