The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition (PS4)

There's a good chance you’ve already bought Skyrim at least once before, because at this point, who hasn’t? There’s a reason for its popularity, however. Skyrim is one of the jewels of Bethesda’s RPG crown, even today. Its near-limitless gameplay opportunities have become legendary, allowing the player to craft their own narrative or forgo one altogether. Special Edition adds not only every DLC, but mod support to make your latest playthrough just as fresh and exciting as your first.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix (PS4)

Stuffed with extra content, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix (try saying that three times fast) features not only two of the most beloved action RPGs in history, but also Re:Chain of Memories from the Game Boy Advance, and Birth By Sleep from the PSP. The game hasn’t aged as gracefully as others on this list, but there is undeniable magic here and, of course, a huge sequel to dive into.
The Last of Us Remastered (PS4)

The PS3’s swansong is harrowing, emotional, and brutal. If you haven’t played through it yet, this is the definitive version of The Last of Us – replete with HDR colours and the excellent Left Behind DLC. And if you have, it’s still worth playing through again. PS4 Pro owners can experience every horrific clicker, every gory stealth kill, and every gut-wrenching and emotional moment in 4K.
Mafia: Definitive Edition (PS4)
2K Games brought back the very first Mafia game with this gorgeous remake. It's faithful to the PS2 original, retelling the story with all new cutscenes and presenting everything with a PS4 coat of paint. While some of the original's quirks remain, like iffy vehicle controls, this is absolutely the best way to play Mafia. Definitive Edition, indeed.
Ratchet & Clank (PS4)

Remember when you saw Toy Story and wondered “when will video games look this good?” You can stop wondering, because Ratchet and Clank is not only one of the best looking titles on PS4, but also one of the finest action platformers. The dialogue is laugh-out-loud funny at times, and the whole thing is tied together with so much charm that it’s difficult not to love the furry protagonist and his little robot buddy.

Kiryu is charging up his heat mode! No yakuza Kiwami!?
There's a distinct lack of FFXII in this one.
Dark Souls! C'mon!
@JoeBlogs I wouldn't say Journey was a remaster or remake. It's pretty much a straight port.
Nice list. I need to play the KH collection before 3 comes or I’ll be so lost. I’ve played the games before, but it’s been years.
@get2sammyB When are we getting a best PS4 waifu guide? We’ve getting so many guides, we need that one now.
Got (or had) the top 3 and they are hard to argue with. Really want shadow of the colussus (waiting now for a black Friday deal) and must be the last person on the planet who hasn't played Skyrim. Got to give it a try!!
Edit: shout out for the BioShock collection, great set of remasters to be missing.
Shadow of the Colossus is comfortably the best remake/remaster on PS4 to date. Though I’m very surprised to see that Dark Souls Remastered and Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster didn’t make this list.
Really no ratchet and clank? That was an awesome remake
Just like the coop list from the last week, it feels like this list is totally random. It's like you've written down the first ten titles that popped your mind... and then just forget other titles.
Where, indeed, are Bioshock and Ratchet & Clank?
Was also gonna mention no Ratchet as @gingerfrog said?
One of the best remakes of all!
shadow of the colossus is a remake done properly, and agree with a few others above, ratchet & clank easily deserves to be on this list. borderlands, regardless of the quality of the game, is pretty much a straight PC port.
Shadow of the Colossus was an incredible remake. Enjoyed it as much as the first time around, if not more so.
Skyrim! Hated that game for 6 years and right now I’m absolutely addicted!
I'd have to vote for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, The Last of Us Remastered, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
Unlisted: Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, and Ratchet & Clank.
How is Yakuza Kiwami and ratchet and Clank not on this list?
@Medic_alert That’s kinda the point of the story. It’s subtle and artistic. If you’re looking for a normal story with entertaining characters you’ll be disappointed. The world is also more of a big hub area. It’s not meant to be roamed like an “open-world” game, it’s meant to be there to hold the Colossi, as there’s no reason of a thing else of interest to be there.
@Medic_alert couldn't disagree more. I'd never played the game on PS2 but absolutely loved playing through it earlier this year.
Really surprised Ratchet & Clank is not on here. That's my number one favorite remake... ever, maybe?
And also I kind of miss Tearaway Unfolded here. Those are actually remakes with a lot of effort put in them. And they're exclusive to PS.
How on earth did CoD4 make this list? Quite possibly the scummiest remake in history. It may have been a top tier game in its day but that remake is everything wrong with the current gaming climate.
Want a remake done right then look no further than Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.
My own listing would be: Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection, Lumines Remastered, Baja: Edge of Control HD, Ghost Blade HD, Darksiders 1 & 2, WipEout Omega Collection, Ikaruga, Odin Sphere, Ratchet & Clank, Shadow of the Colossus, Yakuza Kiwami 1 & 2, Dragon's Dogma, Dragon's Crown.
Okami is number 1 for me though.
Updated with a bunch of new entries.
Resident Evil 6 is actually a really good remaster at least from a technical point of view (60 fps, 1080p). And Capcom (or those who did the remaster) also sorted out the problem with some areas just being to dark in the PS360 versions.
RE6 is a lot more fun to play in the good parts of it in 60 fps IMO.
@tameshiyaku Yakuza Kiwami 2 is much better.
Not the order I'd choose, but if you look at it as a total list its very impressive. Just one point of note, come June 24th we all know Crash Team Racing is number 1.
I finished TLoU Remastered a couple of months ago despite finishing it when it came out on PS3 but still what a game it is.
Just started Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection, I’m going to be working my way through to 4 and The Lost Legacy. I’ve completed 1-3 on PS3 but having just seen Drake’s Fortune remastered it looks stunning, I’m even using the photo mode a lot to check out the detailed characters and environments, Bluepoint Games have done a great job with it. I’ve got a long way to go finishing all the Uncharted games before moving on to other exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn, GoW, Spider-Man etc as well as switching between my Xbox One as my main go-to console for third party games.
I want every single title on this list!!!!
Thanks for the list. As someone who didn’t have a ps3 or 360, I’m missing a lot of games from last gen. Maybe I’ll pick up the borderlands collection soon... but why doesn’t it come with the first game? Can I play it on PS4?
Personally I enjoyed the Batman remasters of Arkham City and Arkham Asylum
@Spider-Cop Unfortunately you can't play the original Borderlands on the PS4. As for why they didn't included it the simple answer is cause it's called the Handsome Collection with an emphasis on Handsome Jack. Since he wasn't in the first one it wouldn't make sense to included it.
I'd like the entire Ico/Shadow/Guardian trilogy on one system ... preferably PS4. So we need a remake of Ico or re-release of HD collection which is not realistic given remake of Shadow. Make it so Studio Japan!
Mass Effect Trilogy is what I should be saying.......
That's funny I don't see FIFA anywhere despite being remastered every year
My own personal choice would be Resident Evil 2 and its easily the best remake/remaster I've ever played and is the standard by which all should now be judged
Where is Resident Evil 4? You gave it a 10/10 and called it a masterpiece on PS4...
I had a great time with MediEvil.
I want 'Burnout 3 - Takedown' + 'TimeSplitters 2' to and then i think I would stop moaning about PS B/C then. Oh and a MGS1 remake would be cool + the original Tomb Raider would be cool + Crash Bash I am sure there is more if I look thru my PS collection tho
We NEED another Ratchet and Clank Collection.
"We’ve seen games ported, remastered, and remade so that they can be introduced to new audiences"... yer, that's the reason.
Nothing to do with being lazy and just trying to make a quick buck rather than come up with something new.
Remakes and remasters are a pox on the current gen.
How do you put out a list of the best remakes and remasters on PS4 and not put Final Fantasy VII Remake or Final Fantasy VIII Remastered
VII Remake literally came to PS4 first lmao
@Woogy Remakes and remasters being done by companies who care are not a pox on the current gen. It's always great to see classics being brought over to new systems for more people to play.
Had FFVII-XII not been brought over to current gen consoles I would've never been able to properly introduce my sister to the series outside of lending her my PSP for the first 4 games since she has a Switch Lite, and remakes like RE2, RE1 on GameCube and the Crash N. Sane Trilogy vastly outclass the originals.
Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir is far superior to Dragon's Crown Pro in my books. Other than that I've loved FF7 Remake, Last of Us Remastered, Ratchet and Clank, Resi 2, Okami HD, the Yakuza remakes/remasters...lots of good stuff! Shadow of the Colossus probably wins overall though, IMO.
I understand the reason for developers of bringing old games from older platforms like PS1 - PS2 era, if was possible trough BC most of the young generation would not appreciate this games like we did when we were younger, hence the reason for remasters. I don't agree with games that are relatively new and just ported ... That's a get rich scheme ... Specially Spider-Man on PS5
Sooo, where's The last of us remastered?
No Batman or Bioshock.
EA needs to release a Dead Space trilogy remaster.
