Release Date: 13th Oct 2016 (USA) / 13th Oct 2016 (UK/EU)

One of the chief concerns from sceptics unconvinced by PlayStation VR is that it blocks your vision from the real-world. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes uses this unique scenario to its advantage, displaying a bomb disposal manual on the television screen while the headset wearer inspects an explosive. The title requires the two parties to be in constant communication in order to successfully disarm the dynamite, and the result is intense, satisfying co-op.

Publisher: Activision / Developer: Bungie
Release Date: 6th Sep 2017 (USA) / 6th Sep 2017 (UK/EU)

Regardless of issues with the overall game, Destiny 2 can still be a great co-op experience with the right Guardians by your side. Up to three players can team up at any one time in order to explore intricate overworld areas or take on exciting Strikes. The latter sees you blast your way through bite-sized adventures that always end with a big old boss. Meanwhile, if you can wrangle together six buddies, you can tackle the Raid for a heftier challenge.

Publisher: Capcom / Developer: Capcom
Release Date: 6th Sep 2019 (USA) / 6th Sep 2019 (UK/EU)

Going toe-to-toe with giant monsters alone is perfectly acceptable – assuming you have the skills – but when the going gets really tough, you'd best call in some help. Monster Hunter World allows up to four players to band together and bash some beasts in co-op, opening up a whole range of strategic options. With other hunters backing you up, there's even more gameplay depth to explore, and finding the most efficient way to slay a particularly troublesome creature is super rewarding. What's more, the game's Iceborne expansion rebalances co-op play depending on your party size, which makes multiplayer hunts better than ever.

Publisher: Team 17 / Developer: Ghost Town Games
Release Date: 7th Aug 2018 (USA) / 7th Aug 2018 (UK/EU)

The first game was already one of our favourite couch co-op experiences on PS4, and this sequel makes little improvements across the board. The chaotic cooking game is better than ever, thanks to the inclusion of online play and gameplay tweaks like the ability to throw items. With both online and offline play and featuring dozens of fiendishly challenging kitchens, Overcooked 2 serves up top notch co-op on PS4.

Release Date: 19th Aug 2014 (USA) / 19th Aug 2014 (UK/EU)

The PS4's best loot-'em-up is also one of its best co-op games. The whole Diablo III: Reaper of Souls experience is tailored for both local and online coop, as heroes form an unstoppable team and raid the deadliest of randomised dungeons. Showing off your sweet gear is part of the fun, as is watching in awe as your coop pal appears to tear through difficulty levels that you were having trouble with. And of course, Diablo being Diablo, there's almost an infinite amount of stuff to do – and doing it is never not satisfying.
