Regardless of issues with the overall game, Destiny 2 can still be a great co-op experience with the right Guardians by your side. Up to three players can team up at any one time in order to explore intricate overworld areas or take on exciting Strikes. The latter sees you blast your way through bite-sized adventures that always end with a big old boss. Meanwhile, if you can wrangle together six buddies, you can tackle the Raid for a heftier challenge.

Going toe-to-toe with giant monsters alone is perfectly acceptable, but when the going gets really tough, you'd best call in some help. Monster Hunter World allows up to four players to band together and bash some beasts in co-op, opening up a whole range of strategic options. With other hunters backing you up, there's even more gameplay depth to explore, and finding the most efficient way to slay a particularly troublesome creature is super rewarding. What's more, the game's Iceborne expansion rebalances co-op play depending on your party size, which makes multiplayer hunts better than ever.
The PS4's best loot-'em-up is also one of its best co-op games. The whole Diablo III: Reaper of Souls experience is tailored for both local and online coop, as heroes form an unstoppable team and raid the deadliest of randomised dungeons. Showing off your sweet gear is part of the fun, as is watching in awe as your coop pal appears to tear through difficulty levels that you were having trouble with. And of course, Diablo being Diablo, there's almost an infinite amount of stuff to do – and doing it is never not satisfying.
Overcooked: All You Can Eat serves up all the delicious co-op content from the original two games and presents it in a new, fancy package. You and three fellow chefs must complete orders while dealing with wacky kitchens, and it's both intense and hilarious good fun. The gameplay is such that you really do need to work together, whether it's online or sat on the couch. Accessible to all ages, this is some truly excellent co-op.
It Takes Two is a co-op only game, requiring a second player to pick up a controller. The good news is that this is one of the best co-op experiences you can find on PS4. It features a huge variety of locations and gameplay mechanics as you must work as a team to get through the adventure. It's bursting with charm and has so many memorable moments — and you'll do it all in a collaborative effort with a buddy. With its Friends Pass, a second person can download the game free of charge, so you don't need to splash out twice. There's not a dull moment in this imaginative, highly entertaining game.
