Release Date: 6th Oct 2015 (USA) / 6th Oct 2015 (UK/EU)

In many ways, Rock Band 4 is the ultimate coop game – after all, who doesn’t want to form a music group with their friends? This new-gen edition of Harmonix’s plastic instruments fad may have failed to rekindle the commercial glories of past instalments, but it’s still pretty bloody fun – and it’s packing an enormous song selection to boot.

Release Date: 25th Jul 2017 (USA) / 25th Jul 2017 (UK/EU)

Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode may have usurped its co-operative nuts and bolts, but there’s still a lot to like about Epic Games’ long overdue construction combat game when you’re playing alongside pals. While the gameplay largely resembles your standard four-player Horde mode, the building element adds an extra strategic layer to the third-person action.

Release Date: 7th Jul 2015 (USA) / 7th Jul 2015 (UK/EU)

The best way to play Rocket League is in online co-op with friends. Teaming up to take on the world, there's no better feeling than working together to snatch victory from the opposition. Communicating among your teammates allows you to coordinate your efforts, and even if you fail, you'll all no doubt be laughing and joking too much to care. Online co-op in this game is always a blast.

Publisher: Asteroid Base / Developer: Asteroid Base
Release Date: 9th Feb 2016 (USA) / 9th Feb 2016 (UK/EU)

The brilliantly simple concept of Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is this: you and your friends need to pilot a circular spaceship in order to restore love to the galaxy. Doing so is more complicated, of course, with each player needing to take control of one aspect of the ship’s controls; one driving, one on the shield, and two on guns, for example. Making your way through the game’s randomly generated levels requires true teamwork, making it a more than worthy entry on our list.

This new adventure game from the creator of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a purely co-operative experience, and requires two players either online or on the couch. Starring two prisoners, Leo and Vincent, you and a friend will be busting out of prison and embarking on a quest for revenge. The constantly shifting split screen gives the game a unique look, while the variety of scenarios where you need to work together results in a highly entertaining experience.
