10. Destiny 2 (PS5)
Bungie's online shooter is still at the top of the pile when it comes to gunplay, although there's no denying that Destiny 2 is a tough nut to crack if you're completely new to the sci-fi sequel. Get stuck in, though, and you'll find an abundance of quality content to chew on. Campaigns, co-op missions, competitive multiplayer — it's a game that feels like it's fit to burst at points, and the aforementioned action is the glue that holds everything together.
9. Overcooked: All You Can Eat (PS5)
Overcooked: All You Can Eat serves up everything from Overcooked and Overcooked 2 in one delicious meal. All that content has been refreshed and remastered, with online play now spread across both games, and even more DLC added on top. The brilliance of this series is how it forces you to truly work together — if you don't, chaos can quickly take hold, and you'll never get those three-star ratings on each level. It's also extremely accessible, with easy-to-grasp controls and objectives. Looking better than ever on PS5, it's the ultimate way to enjoy one of the best co-op party games in recent memory.
8. Dead Island 2 (PS5)
It took nearly 10 years to materialise, but against all odds, Dead Island 2 is a great zombie-slaying adventure. Set in Los Angeles, you work your way through various open levels as you fend off the undead with a wide variety of weapons and abilities. The story isn't anything too special, but the game makes up for it with gloriously gory action and a rounded, well-realised setting. If you just want to smash open some zombie skulls, look no further.
7. Sackboy: A Big Adventure (PS5)
With creator Media Molecule focusing its attention elsewhere, LittleBigPlanet’s whimsical weaved hero deserved his Super Mario 3D World moment. Sackboy: A Big Adventure doesn’t pull up any trees like its predecessors, but is instead a robust co-operative platformer with some memorable musical moments. With a cutesy DIY aesthetic and some surprisingly tight action, it excels in an area that Sony has often been accused of overlooking: fun for the whole family.
6. Monster Hunter Rise (PS5)
After its success on Nintendo Switch, Monster Hunter Rise, erm, rises to the occasion on PS5, and it's yet another meaty action RPG from Capcom. While it falls into the usual rhythms the series is best known for, it adds to the hunt-loot-upgrade system with neat new traversal and movement mechanics. It's been somewhat superseded by Monster Hunter Wilds, but even so, there's still a lot of beast-slaying fun to be had here.

@Quintumply Did this really need to be 3 pages? You really couldnt get it to function on 1? (feel free to throw Ant or grandpa under the bus for that one 😝)
As someone who is always looking for co-op games to play w/ my wife, and by co-op I mean the traditional meaning of 2 people playing on 1 screen on 1 couch, this list kinda sucks. I mean sure its technically co-op but besides It Takes Two I’m really not feeling it.
But don’t worry, I’m not here just to be critical, I’m here to help. For those looking to pay to rent games in a service o play w/ others the PS5 also has access to EA (um something) for $5.99 per month. We currently have it, paid for my kid to pay Jedi Surivior, and y wife and I will be playing Unraveled Two and possibly The Way Out or whatever that prison break game is called.
You know, since we;re talking about paying to rent coop games on the PS5 might as well list them all. I believe It Takes Two is also on there for those who don’t have PS+.
Edit: AI summary of games:
Other top EA Play co-op titles on PS5 include:
Unravel Two – A charming, physics-based platformer where two yarn creatures navigate imaginative environments.
A Way Out – A narrative-driven co-op adventure with a cinematic story, best experienced with a friend.
FIFA 23 – The final installment in the FIFA series, featuring easy couch co-op and online multiplayer for soccer fans.
The Sims 4 – A life simulation game with deep customization, supporting local co-op for up to four players.
Need for Speed Heat – A high-octane racing game with day/night cycles and police chases, playable in split-screen.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 – A fun, fast-paced team-based FPS with unique characters and cooperative objectives.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – A single-player action-adventure game, but its companion title Jedi: Survivor is also available on EA Play and offers similar co-op-like pacing in a shared universe.
Where is Split Fiction?
Ah apologies, it's PS Plus only
It Takes Two isn't a better co-op game than Wo Long, Destiny, Sackboy, Granblue, Shredder's Revenge, Far Cry 6, or Human Fall Flat. That's such a crazy claim😂
@rjejr
This is why we don't listen to AI. The Sims 4 is in fact single player only with no multiplayer at all.
Half these games aren’t even co-op??
@rjejr Thanks for this. Was also hoping for splitscreen games
@Aventurier You're welcome. I only play co-op w/ my wife and kids at home, not online, so I always come into these articles excited then leave disappointed. Last year was particularly bad as I wanted to play Funko Pop w/ my wife but somehow that game has no couch co-op even though it looks like most games that do. And I was hoping Mario & Luigi Brothership would have it, but no. And Lego Horizon reviewed as 1 of the worst Lego games, so it didn't seem worth the money. We'll play it someday.
@ATaco I think half of the 15 games in the article don't have couch co-op either so I don't feel all that bad about it. I mean I'm pretty sure neither of those Star Wars games have co-op of any kind, which, to you're point, is why AI sucks, but it got the point across well enough I think. Or maybe not.
@rjejr I just don't like how confidently incorrect AI can be. Made me double check to see if I missed an update or something. 😂
@ATaco "I just don't like how confidently incorrect AI can be."
It's like they're modeling AI on old cishet white men. 😂
I'm 1 of those so I get to make that joke.🤪
