So, you recall the animated movie. "Into the Spiderverse". Well, great idea I just had was based on one of the lines in the movie. "Anyone could wear the mask." It hit me. A Spiderverse game... BUT... based on that idea. Have a pool of powers from every possible known Spider-Man/Woman/Boy/Girl, be able to advance through those power trees (to a limit). You'd have to pick and choose, and obviously allow for respecs. But you would be able to make a game where you CREATE your own character. A Spider-Person from a random dimension. And then you could have some comic-style selections to choose the bad guys. Like... Green Goblin either being that scary demon from Miles Morales' dimension, or does he wear a suit like all the other known GGs. Doc Ock being a woman, or a man, or even a full-on cyborg experiment gone wrong. There are tons of possibilities.

Honestly, if someone else has thought of this, cool beans. But if not, I don't even want credit for the idea. I would just love to see a game like this come to fruition. Single Player, obviously. NG+ a must because completionists love it (I am one too lol).

For voices, you'd have to get some voice actors... and good ones... Like... go with 10 men and 10 women. And have em read all the quips and lines, etc. And that way you have variety. No one Spidey will play the same in terms of abilities, identity, etc. It's the perfect idea for a Spiderversal game. I don't expect Sony to even bother with the idea. In fact I doubt it would ever happen. But would I play it? You bet'cher Uncle Ben I would!

sigh What I wouldn't give... Oh well. Idea's out there now. You're, uh, you're welcome Sony. Use it to make something awesome. Or, you know... don't. Whatevs. Ball's in your court. Cheers!

@Baklavah it's not as expansive as what you are suggesting but Spider Man Shattered Dimensions on PS3 did the multiverse concept and it's actually a really good game too. Well worth checking it out!

I think it was made before the invention of Miles Morales though so the Ultimate Spidey in it is still Peter Parker. But it does have Spider-Man Noir in it at least!

@ralphdibny Shattered Dimensions was what inspired the Spider-Verse comics in the first place funnily enough.

@nessisonett oh really? I cant believe the effect of the game lives on to this day!

I really need to check out the Edge of Time game too. I dismissed it on release because it only had two Spidey's on the cover, now it's old and expensive to buy 😅😭

@ralphdibny I think Shattered Dimensions might have actually been written by Dan Slott. It would make sense given he’s the main proponent behind most of modern Spidey, both the good and the lots of bad.

@ralphdibny I played both Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time recently. The former is definitely better than the latter, but I still reckon Edge of Time gets a raw deal from fans and critics, because I really enjoyed it for what it was. It's got some annoyingly impossible freefall sections and a boss fight with Black Cat that can go fudge itself, but it's worth a playthrough, I'd say. I keep meaning to go back to both games, either to replay them for fun or to attempt their platinums.

@Baklavah fantastic idea! Insomniac already has a base for it with all the different costumes and abilities. They would just need to expand on that.

There's a 90% chance that if an Into The Spider-Verse game is ever released it'll be an MMO. Create your own Spider-Man, you can have spider-men in different classes, you could have your own world in which you can do a campaign, and have a shared world in which you meet up with other Spider-Men.

There's no sales person on earth who would let that opportunity slide!

@Kidfried "...and then we could pack it with seven different types of currency, and monetise three of them, and no, I haven't seen the server counts for that Avengers game lately, why do you ask?"

I'm only being snarky because the sad truth is, somebody out there is probably working on your idea.

@RogerRoger it looks good. Unfortunately it's £25 in cex and not a local one to me anyway. Maybe I'll get around to it one day!

Just reminded me of another Spidey game called Web of Shadows actually. I don't really remember a lot about it, just that it had Wolverine on the cover and some Venom-y stuff about it.

shattered dimensions sounds better

@ralphdibny Knowing you're a Spidey fan, I'd say £25 is worth paying for Edge of Time, but it represents the very top limit of what you should shell out for the experience. Any cheaper and I'd jump on it immediately if I were you, particularly since it's a de-listed game and is only ever gonna get more expensive and elusive as a result. eBay prices currently start at £30 used, and can hit three figures.

Web of Shadows is one I haven't played. Well, no, that's a lie; I haven't played the "proper" version of the game on PS3, but I've played its Amazing Allies Edition on PSP and my goodness, it was offensively bad. Reportedly, the "proper" version is supposed to be pretty good for a choice-based Spidey game and yes, it's packed with cameos from the wider Marvel universe. The gameplay isn't as unique as Edge of Time, though, as it's just another sandbox swinger set in NYC.

@nomither6 That's good to know, thanks. It's one of the few mainline games that I don't own (silly me, thinking that the PSP version would be enough) but I've been going back to fill in the gaps in my collection recently, and it's been getting expensive. Your well-timed takedown has just saved me money. Cheers!

Have you played Miles Morales yet, by the way? I only ask because I reckon that, whilst it does follow the same template as its immediate predecessor, it strikes a better balance overall.

@RogerRoger nah i haven’t played the miles morales game , it seems more like a DLC to Spider-man 2018 & i haven’t played any DLC for that game .

i’m really excited for the sequel though , i’ll be playing as miles then !

nomither6

RogerRoger

@nomither6 Fair enough, but be warned, you might wanna watch 'em on YouTube or something, as I reckon their storylines are gonna have an impact on the sequel, for sure!
