@Ralizah A Hat in Time is one of those games that looked very interesting and excited when the Kickstarter launched five or six years ago (maybe even seven?), but it looks kinda dated today. At least, compared to other indie games. I think I would've bought it if it came out sooner, but any excitement I had for the game is kinda gone...
@Octane Considering how wide of a circle indie games cast, and how backward-looking most of them are, the dated comment doesn't really register for me. Besides, the game is supposed to be a throwback to Gamecube-era platformers, so "datedness" is part and parcel of the experience, no?
I don't think it'd odd at all for people who follow kickstarters to feel burned out by the time they actual bear fruit, though. It doesn't have that "new" feeling for people that it would have if it was a traditionally funded game that was just publicly revealed in 2016 or something.
I'm just glad it turned out well, considering the recent historical trend of disappointing Kickstarter-funded games.

@Ralizah I guess I mean ''dated'' in the sense that lacks a certain polish. Something that was maybe more acceptable for an indie game five years ago. But today there's a ton of great games made by independent developers, and A Hat in Time, for me personally, misses the boat in that regard.
I'm glad I held off on A Hat in Time, it'll be nice to have that on the Switch. The Grandia remasters are also good news, that's another series I've always wanted to check out.
@KratosMD Where are you getting that a lot of people disliked A Hat in Time? The game has a 79 on Metacritic, and most of the user reviews on Steam are also positive.
@Octane There is a ton of great indie games nowadays, but how many of them are 3D Platformers? The only other notable one I can think of is Yooka Laylee, and reception to that game was mixed at best.
Most of the people I've talked to who have played said it's one of the best 3D platformers in years and rivals Mario Odyssey as one of the best games of 2017.
Well, I'll find out the truth in the next year or so regardless.

I finished up the Octopath Traveler demo tonight and what a game. As someone who didn't play the Bravely Default series I can't compare it to that but it reminds me alot of the SNES RPGs particularly FF III (VI). It has been a long time since I enjoyed an RPG like this.
So I decided to choose the Hunter (I can't remember her name right now) and ended up meeting Thieron before the demo ended. I love the Battle mechanics with the break and such added alot of depth to the fights. Also I really enjoy the voice overs and the music alot. Now to begin the main game.

@Octane, Ameteratsu & Issun get whisked away to Kamiki Village 100 years in the past, knock out the great hero Nagi, and in order to make sure the timeline doesn't get screwed up, you have to drag his unconscious body to the Moon Cave and deal with Orochi (again, but this time in the past) so that things wind up the way they're supposed to. I haven't yet done the fight though. I just arrived at the Moon Cave.
Anyhow, I just broke down and impulse bought Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders (I wonder if the fact that planes have been regularly flying over my house for the past few days for an air show affected my decision...). Used my gold points on it though, so if I don't like it I'm only out a little over a buck (really wanted an Ace Combat style game to hit the system, so hopefully this sates that craving).

@Knuckles-Fajita It's absolutely excellent. I'm on the true final boss now after 35 hours, and I haven't had a single moment of the game where I've been bored or even frustrated. The world is just gorgeous and exciting to explore, you're constantly finding new abilities, the bosses are superb, and the lore and music are amazing. The first area, the forgotten crossroads, is by far the worst area of the game, so bare that in mind when you're playing it, don't give up on the game! But yes, from my experience it's deserved every bit of praise it's got.
