Not too far in yet (just completed chapter 1), but Ys VIII has me hooked. the gameplay is addicting, the environments lush (IMO), and it was a pleasant suprise to get those physical goodies & free costume DLC.

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@Knuckles-Fajita I've seen handheld mode footage, and it doesn't look blurry. But, yes, it's running around 600p undocked.
Footage of the Switch version is pretty easily available now, and it looks great to me. Obviously not as pretty as the PS4 version, but it shouldn't shock anyone by now.

@Knuckles-Fajita
They might be different, that doesn't make the Crash games the classics the PlayStation fanbase makes them out to be. I never got why those games were held in such high regard.
@KratosMD I just found it frustrating with some weird stealth sections and odd bugs. The controls are kind of squiffy too and I never quite got used to them.
It's odd because I haven't seen these complaints elsewhere so maybe it's just me.
@kyleforrester87 I stopped playing The Witness near the end because I felt like the game was starting to troll me. Particularly in that one room where you have to squeeze through bundles of garbage to reach the puzzles. I had my fill of the game by that point.
@KratosMD Yep, alternating Donkey Kong Adventure with Ys VIII. It's... fun. Great, actually. It's not really THAT different from the base game, though.
In terms of differences: DK himself plays a bit differently than any other character in the game, and he's a lot of fun to control, especially given that he can throw any object or character anywhere within range. His main banana weapon also functions like a boomerang.
Mission objectives are a little more diverse in this DLC, I think. Sometimes you're trying to stop specific enemies from escaping the field of play. Sometimes you have to locate and obtain objects in the environment that are stolen by enemies. Sometimes you need to destroy enemy resources.
The puzzles are mostly on par with what you might find in the rest of the game. There is at least one puzzle that is utterly different from anything else in the game, though.
Overall, it's... more Mario + Rabbids. It doesn't feel hugely distinct from the base game, but if you like the base game, then it's several more hours worth of that. Don't fix what's not broken, you know?
@KratosMD Only one of the characters in the main game is used in the DLC, and I don't think she shares her skill tree with the main game version of her character. I'd wait until after the game is over, personally.

@KratosMD Glad you're enjoying HK/M+R! They're some of the better games on the system. The latter was a massive shock. The definitive example of "don't judge a book by its cover," as far as I'm concerned.
M+R wasn't too difficult for me, although it does see a pretty large difficulty spike around World 3. Still very manageable, though. Ubisoft really knocked it out of the park with that game.
I'm really liking Ys VIII. Despite the ostensible simplicity, there's a lot to it gameplay-wise. It's definitely a very unique JRPG.
I...have found one thing that really bugs me about Crash: Reflections.
Or rather...the total lack of. Water doesn't reflect, at all. The ice in snow levels, never reflects. Its just a hard texture. The windows in Future stages are just flat steel textures with exceptionally blurry silhouettes of far off buildings in.
I dont think that was a sacrifice that had to be made to be honest...
That and the messages from villains in Crash 3 have heavily downgraded textures, so bad Tiny looks plastic. Dont know why they downgraded those with so little going on in those scenes.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
@KratosMD In general, I avoid JRPGs on home consoles, as I dislike not being able to play them anywhere I like and have limited time to devote to sitting in front of the TV every day. Persona 5 was an exception, but nothing was going to keep me from that game. I also made an exception for Nier: Automata, which I still have yet to get to. Still, I can easily say I would have enjoyed Persona 5 quite a bit more than I did had it been on the Switch.
Danganronpa not releasing on a handheld would suck big time. I can't imagine staying tethered to a TV when playing one of those games. I've invariably always played them at least partially on trips, and I have fond memories of staying awake long nights in hotel rooms to finish them up.
As to Ys VIII, it isn't terribly remarkable on a character/narrative level so far, but I really like the combat, the Metroidvanian structure, the excellent in-game map that constantly updates, the constant upgrading of your camp, defending against raids from enemy forces, a robust crafting system, etc.
I don't see Trails of Cold Steel coming to Switch, though. The only reason Ys VIII is on Switch is because NIS ported the game in the first place, and Xseed has been the ones localizing the Trails games.
With that said, if the trilogy ever comes to the Switch, I'll absolutely try it out.

I'm wondering if anyone else can verify this about Crash Bandicoot.
I was playing in tabletop mode, using a Pro Controller. The Joy-Con were still attached to the console.
I decide to go into handheld mode, so disconnect the Pro Controller by turning it off. At this point, the Switch OS recognises it's in handheld mode.
Crash however, just tells me to reconnect the controller, even after removing and reattaching the Joy-Con to the console.
Okay it gets better. If you're playing docked with a Pro Controller, and you swap to handheld, the game doesn't recognise the Joy-Con. Even if you disconnect the Pro Controller.
