@kyleforrester87 Same, but yeah, this shows that they care about the quality of the Switch port.

@KratosMD most places that buy goods to resell will test before paying for it anyway. Admittedly in my experiences they don't test individual discs, they just check the condition of them, but at the end of the day they will need to take on this extra work. If they don't they will be buying and selling faulty goods and will have to refund anyone who returns something that doesn't work...

I doubt this testing will slow things down much anyway. How many used cartridges do you think the average CEX buy per day? Probably not even double digits. Testing stuff like motherboards and graphics cards correctly is where things get time consuming, but they do that. Usually the seller has to go away and come back later for the money if it works. And maybe they will pay less for them now to make up for some of the extra time spent testing.

That article is actually reporting false information. According to numerous sources on GBATemp, what Scires posted was incorrect and not fully explored information.

What happened is they dumped the ROM of a game from one of their game cards, then removed the card from the system and attempted to play said game. They couldn't. Once the card was back in, it played.

Here's how this works. In order to play a game from a game card on Switch, you need not only the game to be authenticated, but the unique card for that game. Every individual game card for every release, no matter how few or many cards printed that is, is unique. Nintendo can tell if you are playing a game without a gamecard when you should be.

And because every gamecard is unique, and also doesn't exist in Nintendo's database until printed, you cant fake gamecards, because guessing an unprinted card will stop you using it because...well it doesn't exist yet because it hasn't been printed! Plus, you have no way of knowing what the unique signature to each card is, so it cant be duplicated without extreme guessing.

These bans dont extend to the original game cards that have been duplicated, only the duplicates, because as far as Nintendo cares, that software doesn't have an appropriate card that they know of, so you cant play it. Play a game with the right card, and hey you're all good.

So no, it doesn't impact used game sales in any way.

@kyleforrester87 I know they are supposed to but they don't always, especially when it comes to online components when it requires a sign in. I bought a PS3 a year or so ago from CEX and when I tried to use it online, found out that the previous owner had been banned and it had also locked the machine (which can't be unlocked). I took it back and CEX were great but they admitted that they don't test machines online, only that they boot and play games.

So not sure if they would check. Not that I think there is an issue anyway.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

@Knuckles-Fajita Nintendo Life are pretty all over the place at the moment to be honest.

@Rudy_Manchego No doubt, to be honest even if this story was legit, I expect most sellers would take a commercial view and just carry on as normal, refunding only to the small few who kicked off. And they'd probably put dodgy returned cartridges back on the shelves again anyway.

@kyleforrester87 Exactly, the instances would be rare and its worth the few quid they may lose then the time it would take to check it.

@kyleforrester87 Yeah, I'm always doing research beyond them from now on because this....is straight up falsehoods and looking at the comments people are taking it as gospel :/

But yeah, used games should be fine. Its the duplicates they are stopping from working. Its actually really smart anti-piracy stuff from what I understand.

So, if you preorder the Switch version of Dragonball FighterZ, you get an SNES Dragonball Z game along with it. Really, really nice preorder bonus.

As to Nintendo banning pirated cards...

I mean, I guess there's still a risk of accidentally buying a duplicate card secondhand, but that's the risk you take when you buy games secondhand. It's nice to see an anti-piracy measure that I can fully support.

@KratosMD If you count post-game kingdoms and moons, there's still a TON of stuff left for you to do in Mario Odyssey. But I get needing a break from it. I probably put 55 hours into it before stopping. There's still stuff for me to do in that game, but I felt like I needed to move on to other games at that point.

@KratosMD Night in the Woods seems like a good option if you haven't played it on other platforms and enjoy story-based games. It feels a lot like a 2D Life is Strange, and there's a lot of great writing and characters. I'm not very far into it, but what I've played has been very enjoyable, and the game has gotten a lot of praise from reviewers and players.

The YouTube channel BeatEmUps does a lot of reviews and recommendations of eShop games and Switch games in general as well, if you're interested in that.

@KratosMD Yeah, Mario Odyssey has a ton of content, and that's not even including the Balloon World stuff that was patched in a few months back (that I've still yet to try out).

Good to hear you're aboard the Hollow Knight train! I'm approaching 22+ hours in my playthrough right now, and I still have a decent bit of story progression ahead of me, in addition to a lot of stuff to collect and/or upgrade. It really is a brilliant little game. Dark fantasy, but with little moments of character-based humor sprinkled throughout. And, of course, everyone is an adorable bug person.

I'm heavily considering repurchasing Splatoon 2 just so I can get access to the Octo Expansion. Based on impressions I've heard, it sounds like the single-player mode the game deserved in the first place.

And yeah, the DK DLC for Mario + Rabbids looks absolutely brilliant.

@KratosMD Yeah, he seems like a pretty genuine guy. His occasional slight clickbait kinda bugs me, but I get that it's become more of a necessity on YouTube lately.

And yeah I'm surprised that he hasn't. It's probably one of the most high-quality indies on the Switch, and had a lot of popularity the year it came out.

I don't know how well the game performs on Switch but I recommend Night in the Woods. I really connected with some of the characters and aspects of the storyline.

@belmont I believe it runs at 1080p when docked and 720p in handheld, and it runs at 60 FPS both ways, according to a Nintendo Everything article I read.

Just put in the pre-order for Ys VIII! It'll be nice to have something with a bit more exploration after the pure non-stop action of Hyrule Warriors.

Also played through the demos of Shining Resonance & Captain Toad today. Thought the controls in SR were a bit stiff in combat, but I liked the character designs (especially the shrine maiden motif Kirika has going on) overall I think it's something I'd like to pick up (Dragons!). Captain Toad meanwhile seems like a very charming experiece, and it looks lovely on the Switch's screen (definitely will grab it inbetween bigger games, likely between Ys & Shining actually, lol).

Meanwhile I've logged 50 hours into Hyrule Warriors and may finally take a break from it. I've completed the main quest and have unlocked most of the characters, and TBH Adventure Mode is looking mostly like grind for the sake of grind outside of the first two maps (which house the most character unlocks, especially the first). Outside of costumes and the 4 characters left to unlock, the rest of the maps seem to offer little more in terms of rewards than health, weapon, and fairy upgrades, which really only seem necessary to take on the next Adventure Map. Definitely enjoyed my time with it though, and I'm sure I'll jump back into it from time to time to do a few Adventure Mode missions.

@KratosMD Glad you're enjoying Hollow Knight so far. About your earlier question: I believe the DLC content is integrated into the base game, at least to some extent. I know I've collected at least one charm that was a new addition in one of the DLC packs, for example.

The timing of Octopath, Shining, and Ys couldn't be worse, as they're all going to steal sales from eachother. For my part, as I'm trying to not build up much of a backlog on the system, I'm going to end up passing on Octopath and Shining for the moment.
