I recently decided to back up my games on an internal drive. It‘s the first time my PS2 will ever have a hard drive in it. I was checking around on Amazon for the adapter you need and got this knock off version with a sata port because i was having a real hard time finding the original IDE drive. I don't know if those adapters are that good though. One thing i noticed about it was the sata port had a slight upward angle. Is it supposed to be like that? Looked kinda strange to me. I don't have the actual drive yet but its on the way. I got a 3.5 sata western digital so anyway i hope it works.

If I remember correctly you need one of those online adaptor things that allow for online play. I had one of those back in 2003 2004. You may check those retro stores that sell old games and accessories. There was one near me that had about 10 of the Online adaptors few years ago. Think they were going for like 10 or 15 bucks. And althou I never used it for the online play nor did I play that Final Fantasy game it came with. I used it to back up my saves and storage so I did not need as many memory cards. As far as what ever adaptor you are talking about I would try to find the Sony Internet Adaptor for the PS2. This assuming you have the Original fat one.

Honestly it wasn't suggestive at all, it was quite blatant!

Yeah i have the Fat model. The adapter i bought is by a company called game star. It's an off brand with a sata port but it has no online capability. It's just for connecting a hard drive. I would have got an official one but the off brand ones were easier to find. Plus i won't be connecting it to the internet.
