@Ravix

I get you. I loved Dexter years ago and I still love it. There is nothing quiet like it. I enjoyed Original Sin too, didn't feel like it was "whatever".

If you ask me about "Dexter: New Blood" aka Season 9 in a way, I have watched it and it was really good. Og seasons good I would say. But I didn't watch "Dexter: Resurrection" yet which is the latest season.

Btw, today I woke up to news that even though prequel series renewed for S02 back in april, after the parent company's merger with another one lead to cancellation of Original Sin which is a big bummer. 🥲 But Resurrection will continue apparently.

@CJD87 Loved Peep Show back in the day, some of That Mitchell and Webb Look and That Mitchell and Webb Sound wasn't too bad either. Have you heard The Unbelievable Truth with David Mitchell on Radio 4 as well? If so, what are your thoughts?

"Preoccupied with a single leaf, you won’t see the tree. Preoccupied with a single tree, you’ll miss the entire forest. Don't be preoccupied with a single spot. See everything in its entirety...effortlessly. That is what it means...to truly "see." "

@sorteddan Yeah I'm very thankful to the Youtube algorithm for that one, I had no idea they were getting back together for a show.

@FuriousMachine As others have mentioned they have done some great sketch shows in the past and Peep Show is an all time classic. A lot of their old sketches can be found on Youtube posted by various people

such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0obMRztklqU

This might send you down a rabbit hole of visually blurry but humourous clips.

As for finding Peep Show in your country, what happens if you try this link?

@BearsEatBeets "Sign in to watch". I didn't go further into account creation than them asking for an address, so I expect there are VPN protections and other blocks in place to avoid non-UK users from watching.

I will be checking out stuff on YouTube, though

FuriousMachine

BearsEatBeets

@FuriousMachine That sucks. I guess they do deals with someone to show it in certain countries so have to block access to stuff that is free for us.

At least there are loads of people that have uploaded various clips from the sketch shows to YouTube. I didn't discover their sketch stuff until after Peep Show despite it coming before.

@BearsEatBeets Yeah, but it has become a fact of life and it has actually gotten a lot better in the age of streaming (in the olden days, content producers would sell TV shows in bundles and local channels would buy the bundle, air the show they believed in and buried the rest).

In Channel 4's case it seems to simply be down to advertising, UK advertisers pay for the UK market (an ad for Tesco would not have any impact here, for example), which is fine, I guess.

YouTube to the rescue, though!

The missus and I just finished a complete re-watch of Game of Thrones earlier this week and were struggling to find our next show. We did start Yellowjackets season 3 but something just wasn’t clicking… so we’ve changed tack and started The White Lotus season 3 instead.

Probably my favourite season of TWL tbh with some great performances, from some real established stars… but it was Aimee Lou Wood who stole the show for me. Never seen her in anything before… but she is so talented! Can’t wait to see her in something else… and for season 4 to come around.

@FuriousMachine ah, but isn't this your address?: Buckingham Palace, Buckingham Gate, London, SW1A 1AA, England, United Kingdom.

I don't know how stringent C4 are with global viewership rules, but worth a go, surely, your majesty 🧐🧐

I am also here for the Mitchell and Webb love-in. Be interesting to see their new sketch show, and how it is recieved these days, I was genuinely shocked to see a Sketch show being advertised in 2025, but it might be a nice bit of nostalgia for a fair few people, and i'm just glad writers and creatives are being paid to write things still, rather than it all being wall to wall reality tv and quiz shows.

I feel like I still occasionally use some of their sketch catchphrases in day to day life, too 😅 the most prominent being "ooh, and that's a bad miss" in the styling of their out of touch with modern ways 70's(?) Northern Snooker commentary team, you know, when someone misses something or messes something up, or when watching sports and someone f***s up a shot badly be it with bat, ball or club

Now, anyone for a round of number wang?

There's also a new historical fiction that debuted on BBC and (I think) CBS called King & Conqueror I haven't checked it out yet, reviews are quite bad, but I'm going to give it a watch anyway.

@Ravix Dear gods, no. Wouldn't want anyone to think I share a roof with those people
I did consider digging up a random UK address (finding a fun one deep in the Scottish moors, for example), but too often before I've been jumping through all those hoops only to be stymied by IP location and VPN detectors anyway.
I think I'll simply put my faith in YouTube for these guys.

We watched The Count of Monte Cristo mini series starring Sam Claflin yesterday. It was okay… I mean, theres not a lot that you can do to really mess up the story in any serious way. It’s one of my favourite books of all time and this wasn’t quite as good as I was hoping for if I’m honest… still a decent watch though.

@Thrillho David Mitchell's "northern" doesn't have much variation, but I always love it in sketches 😁 and they captured the British working class underdog film vibe incredibly well with this. You can really tell it was produced by the location manager of Billy Elliot and by the catering staff that brought you The Full Monty 😂

Can't believe instead of sketch shows everyone just watches tiktok these days 😅 the appreciation for writers and performers has tanked massively. In a way, I feel we have forgotten, as a nation, how to laugh at ourselves. Hopefully there will be a resurgence!

@Ravix @Thrillho Watched a lot of Brass Eye, mostly cos it was usually one when i got home from the pub.

This clips sticks out, and someone will pop up with when somebody is ill.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

@JohnnyShoulder people think Rickey Gervais invented the cringe style, too, for some reason haha. And comedy like this often predicts the future, Charlie Brooker was much the same with his comedy, he'd write incredibly mad sh** and then a few years later it would be legit the state of the world and almost tame in comparison, haha. And Brass Eye feels like some weird lost Jeremey Kyle outrage tapes as well as the state of political discussion 😅

@JohnnyShoulder @Ravix I've got the Brass Eye series on DVD tucked away somewhere. I've probably not seen it since I purchased it years ago. I mostly remember the early Alan Partridge and the bits with the general public, especially the one where they got people to read some stuff that sounds like something else phonetically 'Mud the far car'.

EDIT: Having looked for something I've realised I've confused Brass Eye with The Day Today. Which also had Chris Morris and a similar style but I think I bit less controversial. I think they are closely connected and one was kind of a spin-off of the other.

I hope the post above that was auto-modded seeing as it didn’t have anything other than mention that Brasseye episode..

This was the bulk of the post;

@BearsEatBeets The Day Today was a spin off from a BBC Radio 4 show that most of the same team had written and more of a “bit of everything” news programme which gave it great scope.

Brasseye was on Channel 4 a few years later with a slightly different team but Morris at the helm. A similar style but with a focus on one larger topic.

Both brilliant shows and surprisingly only six episodes of each

BearsEatBeets

@Thrillho I suppose Coogan and Iannucci concentrated on Partridge after the Day Today and took a few of the team with them. Probably why Brass Eye is much more of a Morris thing.

I read somewhere recently Tina Fey was jealous of the UK six episode to season thing 😄
