Meat Loaf has passed. I’d like to think he’s reunited with Steinman, rocking for eternity.

Absolutely.

RIP Marvin Lee Aday.

@Jimmer-jammer Did you get a chance to listen to Bitches' Brew by Miles Davis yet? It should be available in your country on Youtube if you just search for it.

I love how Muse are constantly ripping things off or "paying homage" but they're always like fifteen or twenty years late to the party. So like back in the 2000s they were a rubbish version of '80s Queen, and now they've finally caught up to nu-metal in 2022. It's endearing, for some strange reason. Not looking forward to their 2041 Ed Sheeran phase.

@Jimmer-jammer Let me know what you think when you get round to listening to it. Looking forward to your review.

@johncalmc They’re like the British Weezer in that regard. Used to be good about 20-25 years ago. Now spend their time making albums that are hard to tell if they’re parodies or not.

Can’t believe it’s been a year since SOPHIE died. Absolutely went at her creative peak, we’ll never really know what was going to come next. I guess in many ways she’s the Kurt Cobain of my specific generation, all I can do is listen to her music to remember her.

@robhr That’s… quite the list! I love an awful lot of the artists you’ve mentioned though, especially Tim Hecker who I’m a huge fan of. Nice to see Jefre-Cantu Ledesma too, got my brother Love Is A Stream on vinyl for his birthday a couple years back - very very warm sounding record. If I were to recommend bands based on your tastes, I’d say give Belong a go as they’re another ambienty noisy sonic landscape deal heavily inspired by MBV, GAS and Basinski. Women as well, they’re a cross between that warm noisy sound and psychedelic rock. Finally I’ll say LSD And The Search For God, they had basically one EP but it’s top tier shoegaze. Seriously, it’s like I’ve found someone with almost the exact same tastes as me, if you replaced the nu metal with hyperpop!

@nessisonett I'll give those a look see. I think I have LSD And the Search for God on my backlog somewhere, I know I've heard of them. The other ones sound interesting too. Glad to see another artsy fartsy music lover.

@robhr I see you’re Canadian so you probably have the best scene in the world for that sorta music! Although I wouldn’t say the Scottish scene is too bad, we’ve contributed a fair amount to arty farty music ourselves!

@nessisonett Winnipeg is no Montreal or anything but there’s some good stuff, most notably Venetian Snares. You’ve got a good scene yourself in Scotland.

Thrillho

@robhr Did you just copy and paste your iTunes artist list there?

I saw Maybeshewill snuck in there though. How have you found the new album? It took me a few listens to get into it but I really like it! My t-shirt and 12” copy of the album came last week too

@Thrillho I copy pasted it from my portfolio website.

I actually haven't heard the new one yet. I have it downloaded though I'll get to it soon.

@robhr lots of great choices there jumping out at me, nice to see BoC at the top - overall probably my favourite musicians, or at least the ones I would most like to see once (if only!)

Mono is another great choice, those guys rock. The Kidnapper Bell by them is one of my all time favourites.

Grabbed my mum some tapes she used to own but my granny chucked them after she moved out. They join the original Now album I got her last Christmas.

Nik Kershaw - The Riddle
The Top Gun soundtrack (full of bangers tbf)
Madonna - The Immaculate Collection
R.E.M. - Automatic For The People
Billy Joel - Piano Man

I also picked up a few out the charity shop while I was there with some decent stuff this time.

The Wayne’s World soundtrack
Poison - Look What The Cat Dragged In (it was 50p and come on, Talk Dirty To Me is a bop)
Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies

Jar of Flies especially is a great find considering it goes for quite a bit more than I paid. My pre-order of Weatherday’s Come In on tape came as well, which totally suits a rougher format as the production’s homemade anyway.

For some reason, I've found myself listening to Linkin Park again recently. I used to listen to their songs religiously when I was a kid, but what I didn't know was that they had made so many songs that I've completely missed out on. These are some of my favourite ones that I've recently discovered:

Chester had such an angelic voice and absolutely exceptional vocal range. Every song of theirs has so much weight behind it. I genuinely can't stop listening to them, what an amazing band.
