@FuriousMachine Resident Evil 4 on the Wii of all places, haha! I'm sure that was an interesting experience. I don't think I ever played a game on the Wii that wasn't some kind of party game or game specifically designed to be played with those controllers. Did you also watch the TV show Netflix put out a few years ago? I heard it was... not very good, but hey, you can never go wrong with some Lance Reddick (RIP) at least.
@Pizzamorg I've actually been wanting to watch that for a while now! I saw Kim Go-eun in the KDrama adaptation of Little Women in 2022, and she was amazing there. I've been following up on what she's up to ever since and that movie sounded up my alley ever since I found out about it. I was actually pissed when I realised it screened at Berlinale here earlier in the year, but I found it out too late to get tickets. How's her role in this movie? Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to look it up on demand later today.
@Tjuz Yeah, it was actually quite excellent! It was essentially a light-gun experience with the Wii controller. Fantastic stuff! Shortly thereafter, I sold the Wii and when I tried playing RE4 with a regular controller later, it just wasn't the same
Kim Go-eun is great in the movie @Tjuz - she plays a shaman called Hwa-rim, and the way her abilities are represented are pretty cool. She starts off quite cold and distant, but the movie takes her places and I enjoyed her arc a lot.
I dunno what the aesthetic is called, like lo-fi urban fantasy, but I always like stories like this that present people with abilities in a really matter of fact way that can turn every day things into magical armaments. Big CG spectacles are fun, for sure, but there is something about the narrative problem solving that comes from characters having abilities that aren't for direct confrontation forced to face off against beings far stronger than them.
@Pizzamorg I'm happy to hear that she has a good part! Like I said, I'll definitely be checking it out and reporting back to you about it.
Have you watched Incantation on Netflix by any chance? It's doesn't really present people with abilities or anything, but it very much has that grounded horror feel where instead of big CG moments it's all just more... unsettling and seemingly bigger than them. It's a Japanese found footage flick and I found it to be very good. Judging from what you're telling me, I think you might get a kick out of it as well if you haven't yet watched it.
@MightyDemon82 Yeah it's the only Predator film I haven't seen and don't want to subscribe to any of the platforms that stream it so I plan on buying it on bluray at some point but it looks pretty good! I couldn't agree more with you in regard to stories focusing on different time periods.
It is very difficult and expensive for time periods in general but it would be amazing to see more Predator films in different time periods especially in different countries. There are so many opportunities!
I figured the Puppet Masters would be guilty entertainment from the 80s & 90s. I have only seen the first one years ago but definitely should watch them, eventually I will.
Just started to watch the Resident Evil Anthology on 4k yesterday(bought the set for $45!! a few days ago) and damn the first one is even better on 4k! The 2nd one is entertaining but not on the same plane as the original. I don't recall watching 4, 5, or 6 but it should be some fun!
@Hogs-of-War-General $45 is a steal! Cheapest I can find is $65 here, but that is the stripped down collection with very little extras... though, were I to go for the fully loaded version, we're talking around $320,- which is waaaaay too rich for my blood
@FuriousMachine It is and that's why I snatched it up at my local thrift store! I'm not a big fan of the series but for the full set in 4k it's a no brainer. I have a few more sealed 4k horror films I need to open up and watch but I plan on leaving the best as it gets closer to Halloween.
Oh I got some heavy hitters I can't wait to watch!
Dune 2021 (4K UHD Blu-Ray) - My second time watching this (my first was last year around this time on Netflix). Don't think I loved it as much as I did the first time around, but it's still a solid watch and provides a lot of world building for what's to come in the sequel.
Risky Business (4K UHD Blu-Ray) - Despite it's fame I've never actually watched this before, and it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I was expecting a goofier teen debauchery comedy like Weird Science based solely on the infamous dance scene (which is the only thing I knew about the film beforehand), but it ended up having a bit more of a dry satiric wit. Not a bad thing though, I'll just have to watch it again in the future with the right mindset (which is something I'll definitely do, as my dad spent like 60-70% of the film's runtime listening to social media videos really loudly on his phone, so I couldn't focus well).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
Another Shudder original today and another film really undone for me due to poor pacing and not leaning enough into the things that really work, and that is a film called Oddity. If Damian Mc Carthy's other film, Caveat, is on Shudder still, watch that. Way better.
Anyone order anything during the Amazon Big Deal Days sale?
I ordered ten items across 6 decades of film history.
70's: Superman: the Movie (4K UHD BD)
80's: Ferris Bueller's Day Off (4K UHD BD), Funny Farm/Spies Like Us double pack (Blu-Ray)
90's: Jurassic Park (4K UHD BD), Dragonheart (4K UHD BD)
00's: Tomb Raider double pack (4K UHD BD)
10's: Jurassic World (4K UHD BD), Interstellar (4K UHD BD)
20's: Oppenheimer (4K UHD BD), Babylon (4K UHD BD)
Granted, it'll probably be months before I get to any of it. I still haven't finished everything I picked up during Prime Day back in July, & I've picked up dozens of standard Blu-Rays in thrift shops in-between then & now I need to watch first as well.

Finally got around to seeing one of the most hyped horror movies this year I saw the TV Glow.
Whispers...
I didn't like it.
-Runs away-
😂
Like I get the message here. If this movie spoke to you. Allowed you to realise something in your life. Gave you the courage or power to face something you've been otherwise scared to face, then I love that for you.
@Pizzamorg
I thought it was a bit meh when I saw it. I thought the directors other movie 'We're all going to the world's fair" was much worse and just really dull. I don't think I'll watch their next one.
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
@LN78 Oh so it's that kind of movie haha? Those can be pretty enjoyable and definitely has a place for viewing!
@Pizzamorg It's not a horror film and people need to stop calling it that. But completely agree with you because the film is garbage. Has a lot of moments and story beats throughout the film with plenty of potential to be great however it usually ends of up flat. The ending is also very anti-climatic which is the worst.
Not sure why it's getting all the praise, only noteworthy thing was the soundtrack.

Oh yeah, Worlds Fair was awful lol TV Glow had much of the same problems, but was still technically an improvement... I guess 😂

Actually have the soundtrack on right now while I am doing a little gaming. One thing I will take away from this 😂
