Topic: The Last of Us- Too difficult

The Last of Us is so frustrating, the game gives you so little ammo, now I can’t get past this part of the game where these undead creatures keep killing my character in one hit by biting him on the neck. Tried punching shooting and doesn’t work, kept getting bitten on the neck and the respawn just revives all the enemies and won’t let me save as I kill one enemy each time, it has to revive ever enemy each time I die. It doesn’t let me skip the part of the game I get stuck on. And the game puts too much emphasis on stealth, I would tell the game to bring it on, I prefer a straight fighting versus all that sneaking around, but the game gives so little ammo and one hit kills from the enemy (Bitten on the neck) that it makes stealth not optional. I hope the second game isn’t this frustrating.

Ahh yes I assume you mean Clickers? you'll eventually get a Skill call Shiv Master where if you have a Shiv you can use it to get a Clicker off you, until then sneak up behind them and strangle them otherwise avoid them entirely.

I remember finding it hard too the first time I played it. Don't worry you'll get good at the game the more you play.

Oh Bricks can kill a Clicker too. Bottles also work along with any melee weapon as well but you have to be pretty quick before the Clicker recovers.

It’s good to know the second game has improvements on the enemy encounters. I did get further in the game, in the graveyard/ school area shortly after meeting Bill. Looking forward to the second game when I finish this one.

Thank you for the advice. I will definitely try that. Yeah I am still learning the game, it appears to be different than the Uncharted and Tomb Raider reboot games.

Yeah they are the Clickers. I have a harder time by far with them than any other enemies, I go near them even by sneaking up they just bite my neck and instant death.

@Don There's quite a few you can sneak around. You don't have to kill all of them. Just make sure to not make any noise if you leave them alive. I pissed my pants when I first played TLOU, but having replayed it recently, it's all fairly easy in hindsight. Just a different style of play you have to get used to.

Definitely explore a lot for those pills, and save up for the ability that let's you kill clickers with a shiv when you get caught. Crafting and healing speed aren't really useful upgrades IMO.

@Don In your first post were you stuck in the building where you have to go down a floor at a time 3 floors, but if you get killed even by the last enemy on the bottom floor you have to redo the entire building again? I seriously hated that part, took me too many tries. I kept cursing asking myself out loud why we couldn't save anywhere or at least between the 3 floors have a checkpoint, getting killed my the last monster or anywhere on the bottom floor, having to restart at the top, ugh game design. Really really hated that area, almost made me stop playing.

After that area it was pretty much smooth sailing. Sure I died a bunch, but the checkpoints and/or saves seemed better. Until you have to fight a human in a restaurant. OMG that was awful. Almost worse than the 3 floor building. Good luck w/ that guy, I thought that mandatory fight was overall horrible. You'll know it when it happens unfortunately. 😝 And yeah, game is no Uncharted or Tomb Raider reboot. I just finished the last 2 TR games recently, I thought those were really good. Waiting on a PS5 for TLoU2 and Ghost of Tsushima, may be waiting a very long time. sigh

@Don I havent played the single player since its release (though I am planning a playthrough later this year to refresh my memory as I go into TLoU2) but from memory the actual gameplay is predominantly stealth-based. There are some sections towards the end where ammo (& better guns) become available but its still a stealth game overall.

As for the difficulty, there are about 4 or 5 difficulty settings, so assuming that you're not already playing on the easiest one, maybe consider taking the difficulty down and starting a new game.

**** DLC!

@Don What difficulty are you playing on? I know I played it on Grounded and I found the early parts of the game when you first encounter the Clickers to be really hard. I won't spoil anything but there's another enemy to come later on in the game that's even tougher than the Clicker but it's rare though.

@Bivshtex007 Ahh you're correct. It's been a while since I played tbh but thanks for clarifying that.

I didn't know after all of this time you could kill a clicker with a brick.

The 2nd game is better by getting rid of shivs completely and Ellie having a knife from the outset.

@Octane
I did end up getting through a few areas leaving some of the Clickers alive. When I get better at this game I will try to kill all of them for a challenge during the next replay.

@rjejr
I believe that was the area. The one specific area I got stuck on for a bit also has the zombies you can kill by hitting them repeatedly, I don’t know the name of that enemy. The area has about 5 enemies with 3 Clickers I think.

I’m playing it on normal, I can’t imagine how many times I would be killed if I played on a harder difficulty lol.

Oh this brings back memories!

The first encounter I had with a Clicker led to me putting down the game for almost a year. I had played too many Uncharted games and then The Last of Us and I don't know, I didn't think it was for me as I found it too hard and it seemed so particular about what you could or couldn't do and where you could go etc. Eventually I just put it.on Easy and ended up enjoying it.

I adore the sequel though and whatever else you say even it's detractors have to admit that the gameplay is much improved upon the first installment. I will definitely replay both games at some point on PS5 and I'm sure second time round I'll enjoy The Last of Us even more.

@Don , Clickers CAN HEAR you while you are Crouching! Yep, that's right! If you want to go unnoticed, you have to use ThumbSticks Very Gently! I mean, you can press them fully to go at normal speed, but, you can also push them slightly so your character moves even slower.

@Don I played it when it released so I don't remember much, just that 1 section was too hard and the restaurant section was too stupid. Never been good w/ names.
