@nessisonett yeah I'm still playing, just cleared the burial grounds. Really enjoying what I've played so far, very impressive for a smallish dev team. The interconnecting map is very well done

I’ve decided to not have checkpoints for this game, to encourage exploration. I reckon if we all finish it by the end of September we could move onto DOOM after that?

@nessisonett I’m tempted to try out Doom, but I’m not sure if my arthritic hands and ageing vision can cope with the manic pace.

My physical copy arrived! I started it and have so far defeated Gruz Mother and False Knight. I believe I am ready to move on to Greenpath.

That snail shaman NPC reminded me of Patches from the Soulsborne games! *Locks you behind a door. "I was wondering whether you would do me a small favour. Not as repayment for my gift of course, simply because we're now friends."

Started this earlier and promptly had my arse handed to me. Repeatedly. It's a little tricker than I was expecting, but it's good to broaden my gaming horizons a little. 😂 Up to the False Knight boss and will play more tomorrow.

@mookysam yeah the movement is a little different than other games I've played, but stick with it and you'll get better eventually.

@mookysam Ha, don’t worry it does get easier. I remember struggling for ages against The False Knight but he’ll seem like a doddle before long!

The combat takes some getting used to and it’s definitely easier once you’ve got some abilities that favour your play style too.

@mookysam ha ha definitely took me a while to get used to the timing and the false knight definitely kicked my ass first few goes too! There'a rhythm you fall into after you get used to it

I’ve discovered bouncing with the nail attack downwards can be really useful while fighting, not just traversal. It’s very Duck Tales.

Got to Greenpath and was smacked around by a boss in that area: Hornet

Thrillho

@Trisque Yeah, tricky fight that one! I think all the boss fights in the game are pretty fair though as they have patterns to learn like any good boss fight but that one is pretty damn quick around the screen.

Made it through greenpath and have headed into the fungal wastes. Queens Station was a nice surprise and unless I've missed it, fungal waste seems much bigger without a bench. Caught site of hornet again and chased her but the gap to her is too big to jump. What's everyone's thoughts on the lore?

@R1spam Yep, you’re at the same bit as me. I personally love the lore, it sets out a world with a rich history while still having a great story of itself. The Dark Souls series does my head in with its lack of actual narrative so I’m glad Hollow Knight at least somewhat tells you what’s going on.

Yay! I finally defeated the Mantis Lords. Now I'm wondering what horrors the game has in store next, but for now it's nice not to be attacked around the Mantis Village.

@nessisonett couldn't agree more, its less obtuse than dark souls without being obvious. The npcs all have a fair bit of charm so far. I spent a fair bit of geo on a key, hoping to find where it goes and that I've not wasted cash! Bought it and had instant buyers regret, thinking I should have saved for the lantern!

@mookysam Congrats, I remember that being a bloody pain when I first played it!

@mookysam A great boss but a tough one at that stage of the game! And yes, it’s nice to be able to get through the area without being attacked anymore..

I've made it to the city of tears, and it is making me cry (pun intended). I did however find a guy who upgraded my nail, so there's that. I see @mookysam didn't like the mantis village and was happy to get past that boss. I was unaware there was a boss there and was simply happy to just grab the mantis claw and run because those mantises where doing a number on my sanity. Welp, I guess I have to go back then!
