@Kairuuu yeah I'm trying to remain optimistic that there continues to be creative ways for drivers themselves to utilise the boost so that we get similar to the start of the race where it provides overtakes. My concern is that drivers/teams quickly figure out an optimal use and then everyone does the same and we don't get barely any overtakes.
I'm going to remain hopeful for the former.
I've still not managed to find any coverage of the start to see who nearly crashed into who. Or from Alonso's view.
@BearsEatBeets Colapinto nearly rear-ended Lawson. Lawson was incredibly slow to get off the line. Thankfully Colapinto's reflexes saved us from a potentially massive incident.
There have been some onboards from Colapinto's onboard doing the rounds on social media. My god, it's so close. To not hit Lawson is one thing but to avoid the wall on his right hand side as well is outrageous!
@BearsEatBeetsHere's onboard Video of Colapinto avoiding (and others) avoiding static car on grid. Absolutely terrifying! You don't see the static car till a split second before when the car in front weaves out of hte way. Colapinto did brilliantly.
Having watched quite a bit more of the race and feedback, I do have a few safety concerns with the new regs.
1) Speed difference off the grid, including cars stalling, which is apparently a big risk now.
2) With battery deployment cars are more erratic about when they are fast, you don't know when that boost of speed is going to be used, unlike DRS.
3) You have less grip, both due to less downforce from no ground effect, but also active aero (no wings) but ALSO battery deployment. A late or second move under braking could cause disaster with such a large speed delta between cars. Hopefully no big collisions on straights.
4) Cars snapping suddenly. When was the last time you saw Max put it in the barrier? Or Piastri on a warm up lap? At pace on the wrong corner this could be nasty.
I sincerely hope none of this causes a major incident.
@Kairuuu @themightyant thanks for the info guys. I think your concerns are fair. I usually hate tinfoil thinking but I wonder if F1 has deliberately avoided showing that start incident due to concerns about it.
Great start from Fernando. I truly hope Aston can get that car competitive for him. It reminded me of a race Kimi Raikkonen had a great start. I looked it up and Fernando's isn't quite as epic but still good.
