@Titntin I think I they gambled everything on a safety car (or red flag) with no back up plan. Once the early laps got through with no safety car, or worse, their gamble had failed. Then it got worse with teams ahead backing them up.
I believe they didn’t want to do a split strategy so they could guarantee a place finish like Racing bulls and Williams did.
@Zazu I've always thought there are roads that extend the length of the entry through the tunnel that surely would help but apparently they have looked into track changes and could find no solutions 🤷♂️.
@Kairuuu I agree. Keep doing something just because it has heritage and always been there is a poor reason to keep doing it. Like we have mentioned, if it has to stay on the calendar then we should drop all pretense the track is capable of racing on and just have some show time trial events for half points or something.
@BearsEatBeets You know it's a bad race when the FIA themselves have to artificially change the rules for the race just to try to make it more interesting.
It was fine in the 50's and 60's when the cars were much slower and a lot smaller but now I don't think it's suitable for any real meaningful racing at all. You might get the occasional divebomb coming out of the tunnel down the hill into the chicane but aside from that it's a snooze-fest.
@Zazu@Kairuuu@BearsEatBeets I don’t think it’s just heritage, sadly I think it’s more about money and status. All the celebrities and uber-rich come to Monaco, it’s like their gala, their time to hobnob and live that life. Unfortunately i think it will be the last track the (ma)FiA would remove.
I still love Saturday, and even practice at Monaco - seeing drivers push the limit and sometimes the walls - but Sunday is a farce. Agree with all your points. Would love to see the track change.
Curious to see if the track change is going to help give us some overtakes. Whatever happens it can't be as bad as last week.
I think Alonso is finally going to get some points today, gut feeling. Not sure what is happening with the second Aston with Stroll skipping the race due to injury. I only just read about it but no mention of a reserve driver so I'm assuming some rule doesn't allow anyone who didn't take part in qualifying to race.
Yeah this is looking fun. If the McLaren boys get away in the front, they should just be fighting it between themseves.
Behind them it could be quite competitive!
Start of Max’s second stint was super impressive. Yes he was on much fresher softs but he just breezed through the field and set several fastest laps when needed and that has set him up well with track position over the McLarens. Don’t count him out.
And now George has put in the times to effectively undercut Lewis. Ferrari’s best bet is now to wait a bit and have better tires at the end and repass.
Max being petulant again. So deliberate and dangerous. We’ve seen this before when things don’t go his way. When are they going to throw the book at him. Not acceptable.
I don’t expect those positions to stay the same. Max should definitely get a heavy penalty, but George also might get a penalty before that for causing a collision.
