@Keith_Zissou it’s an interesting discussion. My gut reaction to the idea of the “sameness” of games was total agreement until I really paused to think about the games I’ve been playing and realized that I’ve been all over the map, and I’m really not burnt out at all. I think @Th3solution (excellent read by the way) is really on to something there. Perhaps this feeling of sameness stems less from the games themselves and is in fact more indicative of where we’re at both personally and culturally. We truly are drowned in digital entertainment options to the point of numbness. I guess the onus is on the individual to balance their life in such a way as to keep things interesting. As a side note, a line from Bush’s ‘Glycerine’ kept coming to mind in that read: “I’m never alone/I’m alone all the time”

“Reason is the natural order of truth; but imagination is the organ of meaning.” C.S. Lewis

Games have similarities. That's why we have a word to describe all of them in the first place. A lot of people choose to do the same stuff over and over, and then complain about it.

If you're bored with the Marvel films, just stop paying so much attention to Hollywood films, and stop browsing through Netflix. If you're bored with games these days, maybe just leave the house and meet some people. Don't like music, learn to play in an instrument.

In my experience the people that complain that stuff is all so same-ish, are exactly the people who do the same stuff over and over again.

I think the problem is not about more of the same within a franchise (e.g. Forza Horizon 5 being like Forza Horizon 4) but rather stuff like the constant obsession with introducing open world into franchises (e.g. Halo Infinite's campaign looking like your typical Ubisoft open world game, the Zelda franchise's move to open world with BotW because of Skyrim) and adding a Battle Royale mode to games which drowns out the traditional modes.

When possible I make sure I play a varied range of games to avoid getting burnt out from one particular type of game. If anyone is getting bored of the same old games all time, just try something completely different such as an indie game. No one is forcing anyone to play the same types of games, and with there being so many games released these days there has to be something out there. It might just mean going out of your comfort zone every now and again. It's hardly rocket science.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
