@KratosMD Honestly, V and the MMOs are the only ones I haven’t played. I’ve only really compared VI with the older 2D ones like III and IV. I get what you mean about the jobs but I personally like the sacrifices they made to depth to facilitate such a huge, character driven story.
@KratosMD one day you should really try Bravely Default. They’ve worked really hard to stream line the early FF experiences. So many quality of life improvements and the way the job system works allows for plenty of experimentation to make some awesome builds.
I’d actually recommend you try one of the demos on the store (assuming they are still up). They are preludes to the main instalments (Bravely Default and Bravely Second) so stand as their own stories and are well worth checking out, and I would be interested to know what you think of them versus some of the older FF games you’ve been slogging through.
@KratosMD sweet! Yeah the demos are basically 8-10 hours of gameplay that acts as a prelude to the main games. I actually haven’t played the first demo myself, so I don’t know how good that is, but the second one is excellent and it genuinely made some of the early moments of the game proper more impactful having played it.
@Thrillho The music on the map screen is just so good in FF7. Seeing that huge world for the first time was seriously cool and I played it for the first time on PS2.
Considering I found FFVII rather lacklustre when I eventually played it... I have watched the recent trailer for the remake a good three or four times now. I've liked what I've seen for the most part.
I just hope the combat is alright... I really didn't like it for the FF XV demo and KH III's demo felt a bit loosey goosey for me too.
@Thrillho yeah it blew my mind when I left Midgar and realised that wasn’t the entire game I’d just played. I had a walkthrough in PlayStation Solutions magazine with a map, I hardly dared believe there would be that much to explore outside of Midgar. Confused my wee brain.
I really appreciate how much time you spend in Midgar, and how much happens plot wise, before you’re let loose on the map.
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy I think the combat will be most similar to FFXV. Plus there will be the classic mode, or whatever they are calling it.
If it is the same demo I'm thinking of, the combat in the final game felt a lot different to me. I thought the actual game was only ok, but the combat was one my favourite aspects of FFXV.

Mmm it was that platinum demo or whatever it was called with the Carbuncle and kid Noctis @JohnnyShoulder. FFXV didn't really interest me at all anyway but I really loathed how the combat in the demo played out
At least FFVII will have a demo that's thankfully much closer to release so it'll be more indicative of the actual gameplay of the game proper

I’m not really bothered about the combat in FF7 Remake. I don’t think the focus is really going to be on building a dream team and customising them however you want, I feel like those elements will be stripped back and more “RPG-lite”. I mean, somehow they are gunna have to allow you to bring your characters through into the sequel, or they’ll just make you restart every time - who knows - but really I’m in it just to see the world reimagined on current gen hardware.
@kyleforrester87 Woah, Mass Effect style choices would be great actually. Given the game’s in parts, carrying forward party, choices etc could be pretty fun.
Yeah that was the demo I played @Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy, so like I said the combat felt a lot different to me in the final game as I wasn't fussed on the combat, and was one of the things that put me off from getting the game initially.

@nessisonett I'm assuming there will be some way to carry your entire party across (Like Diablo 3 PS3 > PS4 transfer) and, should you not happen to have save data, a way to answer a few questions to quickly build an optimum party or maybe not even that - perhaps you'll just start at an ideal level with a standard amount of materia/abilities unlocked.
But generally this leads me to believe that customisation isn't going to be a big part of the game, because it could quickly end up all over the place depending on which instalments you've played and which you haven't.
@nessisonett the Bioware choice structure in recent times goes like this.
Buy day 1.
Wait for a sale.

Never heard of the Garland Goggles edition. It must be a special version for short sighted people.
