Hello everyone! This is not about console wars or anything, but i would like to get help on features on the PS5 that i might be missing or how to get around things I have been used to for over the last 17 years on xbox.
These are things commonly used and I cannot find on PS5.
1. how do i play audio in both headset and through tv speakers any content - games, movies etc...
1a- if i can play through both, is there a separate volume control?
2. do i have to have the console in rest mode to charge anything? (controller and headset)
2a- do most people leave PS in rest mode all the time?
2b- do most people use the USB ports on their PS for this or do they use separate charging?
3. what setting will turn off tv and everything else when i turn off my PS5? Yes the Hdmi is in arc port.
4. Can some one explain the difference between PS now and PS plus? is it just like Xbox Gold and game pass? The reason i ask is because it seems i have access to different games on both. It seems different all around.
5. Is there a way to change the layout of my home screen? Currently when i hit the PS button it brings up a small row of icons at bottom of screen, can i make those bigger or change where they are located?
6. How do i change color, themes and backgrounds for the start screen/home screen?

any and all help welcomed. I enjoy both consoles alot, since i enjoy games. It does seem the PS5 upscales better like movies and such, the video processing looks really nice.

thank you in advance for any help!!!

Happy Gaming!!!

@Elad13x heya and welcome!

Unfortunately I can't answer all of your questions as I only have a PS4 - I could answer them if they were about the PS4 instead of PS5!

The one I can answer is 4.

PS Plus is analogous to Xbox Live Gold. It's the subscription that allows for online gaming. Like Gold it offers a couple of games a month that are available to you as long as you are subscribed. As long as you "Add the game(s) to your library" when they are available you will be able to play them while you are subbed and in most instances if you resub after your sub has lapsed. On PS5, it also offers the PS Plus collection at no additional cost which is a selection of games that appear to be available to download as long as you are subbed, I can't say much on this added feature as I don't have a PS5!

PS Now is more analogous to Game Pass where it offers you a revolving library of games to play as long as you are subbed. I don't have PS Now so I can't say for certain but I think that PS4 games available on the service are able to be downloaded and played natively whereas PS3 games (and I am assuming games from other past generations, if they are available) have to be streamed to your console via a steady network connection (which is why I haven't bothered with it as I have average to poor internet).

I don't think that PlayStation offers a combined service analogous to Ultimate Game Pass that combines both Gold and vanilla Game Pass.

I believe (but am not positive) that buying two subs to one year of Plus and Now is still considerably cheaper than buying a year of either Ultimate Game Pass or two subs to both Gold and vanilla Game Pass though. At RRP that is, I'd imagine that most people like myself wait for decent deals on these subs before buying anyway.

Hope this helps!

Edit: Another couple of differences to note between PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold...

It's hit and miss (mostly miss in my experience) whether you are able to buy a game that you have claimed with Plus in the past while you are still subbed. They sort of introduced the ability to buy claimed games for some titles but I haven't found many and none of the games I want to own are available to purchase while still subbed. Whereas you can always buy the Games With Gold on Xbox even if you have claimed them through GwG.

Games with Gold also offers a couple of 360 or original Xbox games per month as part of their offering which you can keep even when your sub runs out. This doesn't apply to native Xbox One games. You can't keep any of your claimed PS Plus games if your sub runs out.

Answering question 2: yes, you'll need to use rest mode to power the USB ports and there's a setting that changes how that behaves - I believe the default is that the ports will be powered for 3 hours after entering rest mode (which should be enough to charge a controller or another accessory) - you can also set that to "always powered" or "always off".
2a) I used to have my PS4 in rest mode all the time but with the PS5 loading everything so fast, I really don't feel the need and I just turn it off. I suppose rest mode is still useful if you have a slower connection and you're downloading a large game/update
2b) Since I'm not really using rest mode, I charge my controllers with an old Samsung phone charger. Works just fine.

5. I think you can select which icons/functions you have on the navigation bar but I'm not near the console right and I don't remember how to do it (pressing the options button maybe?). There's no customisation beyond that at the moment.
6. Unfortunately there aren't any ways to customise the home screen yet.
