Starting this thread to see if others are interested in Where Winds Meet and how they are going to play.

I look for new info on this game daily. Im on the hype train and then some. There seems like an endless array of things to do, secrets to find, and world to explore. The idea that you can play this MMO solo with no one in your world, except for bounty hunters if you break the law too much, is amazing. You can also hop into co-op or jump into full mmo at any time. There are some caveats to this, but the flexibility remains.

The fighting looks great too. The wuxia style is used to full effect. There is a good amount of weapon choices and the ability to switch between 2 on the fly makes for some devastating combos. I plan on mostly using twin blades and rope dart, but the fan and the umbrella combo is enticing as well. The biggest shocker of all is the game is free to play. The only micro transactions are for cosmetics, not pay-to-win. Anyone else plan on playing this? If so what weapons choices are you leaning towards?

@Elodin I plan on playing this, with some kind of katana/Sekiro build.

@Elodin I saw a trailer for this ages ago (actually I think @BlAcK_SwOrDsMaN directed my attention to it) which definitely caught my interest but, seeing as I’ve only just learned that it’s free to play, I apparently really don’t know much about it. I’ll absolutely give it a shot though seeing as it won’t cost anything. I tend to enjoy this type of thing.

For fans, this Friday there will be a Livestream: On November 7th at 10 PM UTC, the developers will host a global livestream to showcase new gameplay and a special guest, available on YouTube, Twitch, X, and TikTok.

Unfortunately I'll miss it, but catch it later.

@Bentleyma Nice thing with this game is you can pick the difficulty as well as options such as auto parry. I like how you can play the game your way. As hard as you like and solo or with friends.

@Bentleyma Nice! Yeah I wanted to support the idea of good free to play and not pay to win. The little things you get are just a cherry on top. And the pre download is a nice touch as well

My first 3 hours have been fun. So much to learn. I can't help but explore. I accidently swiped a horse, have a head injury I need to see a doctor for, and learned my parry skills are abysmal. Enjoying every minute of it.
I do have some issues. Im playing in chinese audio with subtitles, but any time there is a second line of subtitles its below where I can see, it on my tv. I have had one crash and one time where my D pad wouldn't work. I just kept thinking im pushing the wrong buttons. Even with these issues the only thing keeping me from playing is I need some sleep.hope you all are having fun with this game too.

@Bentleyma With all the uproar and discussion about AI this last week, this is a pretty cool implementation of it. I’ve thought for a long time (ever since AI chatbots started popping up) that video games needed to use a functionality like this where NPC conversations and responses would be dynamic in this sense and really individualized. There’s probably other games that have used this tech but if so I’m not aware of them. It makes me really want to try this game, actually. I’m worried about the technical glitchiness of it though.

Back on the subject of the AI chat characters, I’m not sure how the anti-AI community will feel about it, but it has great potential. We’ve seen Baldur’s Gate 3 and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 (among others) come onto the scene heavily praised with thousands and thousands of dialogue choices and intricate webs of scripting that make each playthrough potentially unique, but such efforts would be paled by a true variable AI real time response system like this if it could be widely implemented. I’m sure it’s in infancy in Where Winds Meet, but there’s a lot of potential there. If you really think about it, it’s immersion breaking and incredibly unrealistic to talk to NPCs in our games and get the same response over and over. If you accidentally initiate a conversation again to someone you’ve already talked to, they robotically spout out the same 1-2 lines of dialogue they already told you before, showing no change in response or emotion. A gaming habit we have all grown accustomed to is “exhausting all the dialogue” options when interacting with an NPC, so once they start repeating their opening line again you know you’ve heard all they have to say, so you can move on. That’s not a natural and realistic human interaction.

Honestly, it’s probably where gaming is going in the next 5-10 years and pretty soon it won’t just be dynamic text chat responses but even cutscenes, storylines, and outcomes will be individualized and created in realtime based on a players response.

10 hours in and loving it. Latest patch fixed the subtitle issue and the d-pad issue. I have had no technical issues since the opening few hours. Fun little side quests. My only gripe is there are so many menus within menus. It doesn't detract from the gameplay, but it is a bit over complex. Mind you, most of these menus are just minor rewards to claim. I would also rather have had a mouse style to the menus then they way they the controller set up to use the menus with. All minor issues. Overall a fantastic game so far. Its amazing that it is free.

Finally got the rope dart weapon. Had a little trouble figuring out the disguise quests.im really liking the weapon so far. Now off to explore. Open world reminds me a bit like Elden Ring with all its secrets

Got this downloading at the moment. Not sure when I'll get playing it (unlikely to be tonight) but I'm excited to give it a go. It looks rather good.
