Who’s all going to be playing Doom The Dark Ages day 1? I’m hoping to be finished with Clair Obscur by then, but I think I will be since I have two days where I’m completely free of any responsibilities, haha.
@HallowMoonshadow Yeah, it's basically a 3D Mario game in everything but name. Team Asobi really seems to have absorbed a lot of what makes those games fun. Which kind of automatically makes them Sony's best developer now.
Welcome Tour doesn't really need something else to look bad in comparison, but yeah, it is an impressive bit of pre-loaded software. He actually has Astro Bot as well, and I was tempted to play that, but having never used a PS5 before then, I thought it would make more sense to try our Astro's Playroom first.
Hopefully gonna make my way through both games this year. Might also try out Demon's Souls at some point, since it doesn't look like it'll ever be ported to other platforms.
The way the controller changes how it feels when you pull the trigger is pretty cool tbh. One of the neater bits of console tech I've seen to date.
@Ralizah Such a joy to hear first impressions on PS5. The first time with Astro’s Playroom is such a delight. Hopefully y’all also have a nice big 4K OLED TV to soak up the great visuals. The only downside to playing Astro’s Playroom first is that every other game from here on out will disappoint when it comes to DualSense usage. (I haven’t played Astro Bot yet so I’m sure it maintains the excellent use of the DualSense though).
Actually Demon’s Souls has pretty good haptic feedback on the controller, but does not use the adaptive triggers at all. The visuals are fabulous though. It’s widely considered the best looking Souls game.
The adaptive trigger usage on a lot of first party games (and some third party) is a nice added touch. Returnal has a really cool dual function of the triggers where you can hold them to a halfway point where it will give a little resistance and it performs an alternate fire function, as opposed to doing a full press. In GT7 the triggers give you resistance based on how hard your hitting the throttle or the brakes. Many games have a different feel to the trigger depending on which weapon you’re using, like a shotgun feels heavier than a pistol due to the change in trigger resistance, etc, etc. Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart has decent DualSense, as do the Spider-Man games. Still… none of them quite hold a candle to Astro.
There’s really so many awesome PS5 discoveries for you. I know you’ve been playing a lot of them on PC, but it’s nice that you have the option now.

Got through the first phase of the final boss for the 'Shura' ending in Sekiro this morning, making progress, feels good.
"Preoccupied with a single leaf, you won’t see the tree. Preoccupied with a single tree, you’ll miss the entire forest. Don't be preoccupied with a single spot. See everything in its entirety...effortlessly. That is what it means...to truly "see." "
@JohnnyShoulder Ah, that’s good to know, should I ever do a replay. I went full magic build for my first and only DeS playthrough and I don’t think I ever used a bow.
@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN The Journey is almost complete! That final boss is the stuff of legends, from what I hear.

@Bentleyma I understand your feelings. Sometimes, a game can get hyped up so much only to disappoint due to expectations. For me, I love it because of its turn based mechanics. It does something different and keeps you engaged, consistently bringing out new combat options as you progress. Sure, there aren’t any towns or villages necessarily to explore, and most of traversal is essentially cutscene to cutscene with fights sprinkled in between, but I prefer that than your typical open-world bloat often seen in games nowadays. Overall, I think the combat, the visuals - character animations, battle fights - beautiful vistas and over-world map to explore, the characters and their development, along with strong voice acting and an impactful narrative, elevate this game above a lot of its contemporaries. For the studio’s first game, I think it does what many JRPGs strive to do, but fail. But the game isn’t without its shortcomings, but considering the game was made by 30 people, it’s something I can personally overlook.
And hey, different strokes for different folks! I can totally understand your perspective, and your opinion is valid. It’s a bummer the game isn’t grabbing your attention. I’ve been there several times with games that are praised significantly. Hopefully, you’ll find a game that captivates you!
@Th3solution Astro Bot really holding up the Mario mantle of being the IP that's the company's go-to when it comes to showing off and making full use of a controller's new properties!
Yeah, my brief time with it was fun. When I go back over to his place, I'll spend more time with it, probably. It's very pretty on a 4KTV, but considering the art-style, it'd probably look good on anything.
Those adaptive trigger usage cases sound pretty neat! I'll have to look into which PC Playstation games make full of the Dualsense, as it may be worth playing them with one instead of my Xbox controller.
Currently debating whether or not I should begin a playthrough of Death Stranding before I inevitably lose myself to Elden Ring Nightreign at the end of the month.
I've never played Death Stranding before and part of me is wondering if I should play it in the hopes I can try to hop aboard the Death Stranding 2 hype train.
@Kairuuu it's a really chill game, but also stressful at times (boss fights aren't hard, but can be clunky and theres a few tough sections) It's hard to describe but it's certainly an experience, and in all honesty I prefer it to something like MGSV. It's a game you really have to play once to know if you like it or not though.
It is like strange independent cinema, has plenty of heart and style. It has a cool community element, too with building, and even during fights I remember someone tossing a bunch of OP weapons to me through the ether, which was cool. And honestly it's totally batsh** crazy at the end of the day.
I'd go for it, it might grab you, it might not, but you won't have played anything like it either way and for that alone it's worth it.
When it seems you're out of luck.

@Ravix Yeah, I think I'll give it a bash. Worst case scenario I hate it and uninstall it. Playing it on PS+ Extra anyway so it's not like I've bought it or anything.
@Kairuuu I’m a bit late, but Ravix put it well — Death Stranding is an easy recommendation, one of my favorite games from the last generation. But it’s also one which I can understand if it doesn’t click for you. It’s very unique in many ways and I like how Rav put it as analogous to independent cinema. The storytelling is quirky and at times goofy, but if you’ve played other Kojima games like the Metal Gear Solid games then you’ll be accustomed to his style, and you can still feel bits of MGS DNA in the game.
The trekking and hiking part is actually quite deep and chill, but in a way that keeps you engaged as you subconsciously strategize to make the right route, arrange your load, and set up the right constructs to aid your traversal. Once you get further into the game you start to have other players constructions pop up and the navigation gets better and the game gets deeper.
I’ll be curious to hear how you like it.

Okay, I played Death Stranding for a few hours over the weekend. What in the fresh hell is this game? I have absolutely no idea what's happening. One second I'm standing naked on a beach holding a baby, the next second Mads Mikkelson is talking to me as if I've seemingly just come out of the birth canal. Kojima must have some serious drugged-up lucid dreams if he's coming up with this bonkers stuff. I can't tell if he's mental or if he's a total genius.
I'm intrigued to see where it goes though. I need answers to the hundreds of questions I already have.
@JohnnyShoulder I definitely don't hate or dislike it yet, though I am only a few hours in. The gameplay itself has been quite relaxing so far but that may change if I encounter more of those invisible BT things.
Strangely enough, I find the act of having to keep your balance with L2/R2 as you're traversing quite amusing. It's almost like it's its own little game making sure Sam doesn't fall and potentially destroy the cargo.
