I've just finished off the Castlevania Requiem platinum trophy and really enjoyed both Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night once again. I may pick up the Advance collection as I never played through all of them.
For now though I picked up The Last of Us Part 1 on sale and visually at least its a huge upgrade from the PS4 version, much bigger than I thought it was to be honest. It's on par with how part 2 looks with perhaps better reflections and slightly better lighting but I can't say there's much in it and dualsense implementation is subtle but nice.
Gameplay wise I'm not sure I've noticed any real difference and it's certainly not up to part 2 in this regard, though to be expected given the character and environments. I will say cutscenes have drawn me in more with the much improved facial animations and it's certainly the way to play it for your first time. For those who already have it that's a tougher sell, full price I'd say no but on sale this is still one of the very best games for PS5 and the absolutebest way to play it. It's just hard to ignore the other version that still looks good and plays pretty much identically.
Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.
Played 1.5h of Crisis Core FF7 Reunion.
You can definitely tell it’s an updated version of a 15yo game and it doesn’t look remotely as good as the proper FF7 Remake but it’s still pretty fun.
I never played the original and I don’t know much about its story so I’m definitely interested in seeing this through.
Playing directly on hard mode because why not.
@LN78@SillyBoyJudas It’s curious how Sony studios has taken this trend of excessive hint giving lately when the world otherwise has flocked toward the From Software style of actively hiding important aspects of the game from the player. Playing Dark Souls right now, sometimes I’d give my eye-tooth for some kind of clue as to what I’m supposed to do, where I’m supposed to go, how I’m supposed to get there, where to find the blasted components I need, and what the trick is to defeating some enemies. The side quest lines are so cryptic that it’s nigh impossible to know what’s going on and how to complete them without a guide. (I’m currently on the midst of dealing with the murder of a minor but key NPC by another NPC at Firelink Shrine, if you know what I’m talking about. I went there for refuge and lo-and-behold I’m met with that surprise and there’s absolutely no clues given as to what happened and how to rectify it if you don’t look it up online.)
Don’t get me wrong, I think there’s some definite fun to be had with the discovery of all the countless little hidden paths, stories, tricks, and solutions, even if it involves sleuthing it out online. I’m loving the game. But jeepers, sometimes I think the developers were cackling sadistically while they were designing this stuff. There are many points in game where it’s clear they are trying to trick you. (Can you tell I just finished Blighttown? 😅)
I haven’t played GoW Ragnarok nor HFW yet, but it might be a breath of fresh air after Dark Souls 😄
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@MaulTsir Sorry to hear about your recent health problems but I’m glad Night City is there to help you out
If you’re going for the platinum I’d just warn you about two trophies in particular.
One is story related so I won’t say much without knowing how far in you are but it comes quite late on and is the only truly missable trophy. I missed it on my first run so had to replay the whole thing (I didn’t mind too much to be fair!).
Secondly, the one for maxing a skill is tricky. You’ve probably noticed that you only level up skill by using them so you have to make sure to use that skill exclusively but also level it up when it hits the max current level. I went for quick hacking as you could use it loads in combat but also hack any and every vending mission too.
If you stop seeing messages about gaining XP for that stat, you probably need to level it up.
@LN78 I’m not sure when the transition occurred whereby online help became easily accessible, but it must have been within the last 10 years since I did my first try at Dark Souls in 2012 and abandoned it due to massive confusion and frustration about what I was supposed to be doing in the game and how to play the basic mechanics of it. I don’t remember trying to Google anything back then but maybe help was out there at the time and I just didn’t avail myself to it.
I do remember using Gamefaqs for a lot of guides and help on various games over the years. Not to mention an occasional strategy guide. I almost never go to the Gamefaqs site anymore since videos are much simpler to follow. We now have a million YouTube videos to choose from when we’re stuck, and not to mention Sony baked into the PS5 that video help system you can use for hints or guidance and just bypass the whole internet search thing. Now apparently they’ve gone one further and just made the characters in the game tell you all the clues outright! 😅
An options slider is probably what would be the best middle-ground. I liked the Shadow of the Tomb Raider approach where there were separate settings to make combat, exploration, and puzzles all at your preferred difficulty level. So one could make puzzles at their baseline hardest (and Lara would keep her hint giving thoughts to herself) and yet make the combat easy, and vice versa.
Currently playing through Soul Hackers 2. I finished Persona 5 Royal on gamepass last weeek and absolutely loved it. Since Soul Hackers 2 was in the sale for half off in the PSN sale last week i decided i wanted to play another Atlus game and got that one. Even though i miss the social aspects of P5R, which are a lot less in Soul Hackers 2, I'm enjoying my time with it. The dungeons feels like the palaces and the fights are easily understandable since the Demons fight like Personas and also use the weakness system like P5R does. I am enjoying my time with it.
That’s Sonic 2 polished off from Origins as well so just S3&K (not N) to go!
It was quite funny to see Mark Cerny’s name pop up in the credits for the second game though; I’m sure I did know he worked on the game but still surprised me to see it.
I'm on to the third zone of Sonic Frontiers, and am finding myself bored as it feels a bit samey. May a take a break from it, and see how I feel when I go back to it.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@Thrillho thanks for the message, I'm feeling alot better, back at work so that must mean I'm fully recovered 🤣.
In terms of the story missible trophy, I think I am just about to do the mission in which can make it missible if that makes sense so I will be making sure that I don't miss it 🤣
Thanks for the advice on the other stuff, I've heard there is a few cheeses in terms of levelling certain skills to max so if I finish and I haven't achieved a max level I will look in trying them.
Overall the games fantastic and I'm just loving my time in Night City, I do wish that the game came out in this state or came out a year or so later as it would get the credit it now deserves.
Right so are soon finished with Yakuza 0 (which feels very exciting). Are very much thinking about what to play next. Are actually right now leaning towards maybe Sonic Frontiers. That said I also have a few games which I begun to play a while back but have not yet finish so I maybe should prioritize to finish those games first. hm.
@oliverp the only thing I’d suggest from my own perspective, is that after playing a long old game such as Yakuza 0 I’d be inclined to play something completely different. The parameters I use are obviously genre for one… but also things like game length and game difficulty etc. Sonic Frontiers seems to meet those for me 👍
A tip for getting all the NCPD scanners though, if you go to the custom setting for the in game map then you can show all the locations for those through that. I don’t know why they don’t show up on any other setting.
Rough Landing was the one I had most trouble with. Lots of the videos I watched online were rubbish for it but one showed an area with two drones which were much easier to destroy than trying to kill people.
The Quick and the Dead is also worth trying to complete sooner rather than later. I think I had an augment that slowed time when first spotted so quickhacks or shotgun blasts at that point got me through.
Frequent Flyer is a bit of a pain but you just need to find an online map and then be methodical trying to find whatever you’ve missed.
Happy (trophy)hunting!
It may also be worth looking up the “secret ending” too. I think it is a different way of getting The Sun trophy ending but it’s pretty tough going! I tried doing it on my second east run through and wasn’t levelled enough to do it.
@JohnnyShoulder@RogerRoger I've made it to the fourth island. Chaos Island did have me running around lost for a bit and cursing. Not a fan of it's layout, but I pushed through and I'll probably be on the final island by the end of tonight.
@RogerRoger Just watching the credits, I thought there was another Island. Great game, few niggles like Chaos Island but I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. Will keep playing until I have the platinum!
I just rolled credits on Marvel’s Spider-Man. Oh man….what a treat. One of the best games I’ve ever played, and probably the best Marvel branded game I’ve ever experienced.
Gonna go for a palate cleanser before I play Miles Morales. Maybe Midnight Suns…
I've gained alot of the trophies naturally at the minute although I've made a point to get certain ones that seem to cause people a few problems.
One in particular is causing me some problems and its the shoot a grenade thrown by an enemy, but I've seen a few tips online and on YouTube so shouldn't be to bad now.
@Dusk_Actual Spider-man was a fantastic game, I remember how much I enjoyed it. Miles Morales is also very good, just more of the same which isn't a bad thing with a few extra goodies added in, it's more of a DLC than anything but still very much worth playing.
I'd be interested to see how Midnight Sun's is because It's been on my radar for a while but not enough for me to take a leap on it just yet.
Playstation does have alot to offer so glad your enjoying it.
