@Ravix I've been thinking about those Hogwarts floors too tbh 🀀

I'm by no means an audiophile, but I do tend to go for the high end dedicated PlayStation headsets.
There are clearly better value headsets out there, but I like the design of the PS sets and I know they'll give me all of the audio benefits that the console is designed to offer. The 3D audio sounds great on them.
Plus, they have that really convenient PS Link tech that makes swapping between PS5 and Portal very handy.

I also bought the PlayStation ear buds btw, for playing Portal out in the garden. I love them. Again, there are probably better quality buds, but they're dedicated and they sound really good.

As for a speaker system, I never used to bother, but I got a fairly nice sound bar as part of a bundle with my last Bravia, and ever since I first powered it up I've been thinking about getting more into a surround sound setup.
I'll hopefully be in a new house soon. Maybe then I'll do it.

@Shepherd_Tallon I was having a look at the ps5 ear buds vs the regular Sony earbuds too, I might try them out one day if they are decent, as, bud-wise (err), I only have some free ones that came with an lg tv, but they come in handy every so often.

I've never got the hang of the 3D Audio tbh. I thought i'd use it a lot, but it doesn't seem to sound how I'd like it to most of the time. I can't put my finger on why that is though. I might have to experiment with it again. I think currently I brute force the PS5 (lie to it via the menu) to think it is outputting audio to an AV device rather than a tv as that lets me tweak the other settings that are within that menu so I can get the audio on tv or headphones to sound right to me with 3D audio off.

When it seems you're out of luck.

@Ravix bud-wise (err) πŸ˜‚

The 3D Audio comes to life in VR for me. I've legit had moments where I'd be playing something like Legendary Tales, someone would tap my shoulder to get my attention and when I turn there's nobody there.
There's a split second of that before I remember, "ah yeah, the real world."
Moments like that are as much down to the 3D Audio as the VR2 headset.

I not consider the version "Pro" to any consoles, and this because upgrade is senseless... I mean, console is not a Pc.
Anyway, the positive side is that the technologies at the base of Ps5 pro will help Ps6 project, in similar way Ps4 pro helped the current Playstation.
There is something in particolar that I dont love about Sony philosofies and I speak about Sony's obsession againist the games retail. At the moment the only way for buy a digital copy is buy it by Ps store at 80 euro and this is bad. On Pc the situazion is different because is possible buy the keys across different stores. I'm afraid that Playstion future will be the only console available, with xbox that lose market (whay somebody should buy a microsoft console when is possible get the gamepass on pc and play BETTER Microsoft games?) and Nintendo that play a her game in a market a part.
I'm sure that when the people several years ago asked the "Unique console" them didn't mean anything to similar to the current Playstation.

@Bentleyma hope it's good for you, mate. Hopefully makes the PS5 itself look better in the meantime too πŸ˜„

Less than a month until the Pro is out 😱

@L4GANN I get what you mean, in a way, but an upgrade is still an upgrade regardless, and replacing a 4 year old console with a brand new one is something I'd do anyway, pro or not. Just to refresh the life cycle and pass the older one on to someone else.

It's value and price is the real sticking point, is it worth that big a price hike for an upgrade that a lot of people wont benefit from? It is debatable.

But I know I'd benefit from it, as I sit fairly close to a large screen when gaming most of the time, and this generation I have been noticing graphical inconsistencies a lot more, and performance in most third party games has been questionable, at best, on consoles.

Very much agree that it will help the PS6 development, especially with PSSR being improved upon by then after having it being used as a tool to help devs improve their output for a few years, everyone will have a better understanding of where they can push forward and what to hold back.

When it seems you're out of luck.

So since I ordered the PS5 Pro, I'm trying to get the Disc drive but it's not available here in Germany of course and scalpers are selling it for around 190 Euros. So I've been thinking of just selling the 10 disks I have and converting to digital. What do you think y'all? Are you struggling too with this or just made the move to digital?

Dont misunderstand what is happening at the market.. Ps5 Pro is out because the scammers did buy all the consoles by bots.
Ps, I'm very curios to see this PSSR in action... recently on pc i saw a lot to frame generator and the only that work properly is the Dlss, that is a Nvidia technology.

L4GANN

Ravix

@L4GANN early signs are that PSSR is already a fair amount better than FSR2 which is what is making a bunch of third party games look bad. By the time of PS6 it could hopefully be keeping up with DLSS and perhaps surpass it in some ways being specifically designed for the console.

If we see 4K 60fps as pretty much the ceiling console games will ever be, then the better the PSSR gets the more room for graphical improvements their will be without taking the frame rates and we can maybe start to see some cool "next gen" stuff. PS6, for example, isn't going to start trying to target 4K or 1440p 120+FPS, but it will have a better CPU and GPU and PSSR that has been developed over time, so games upscaling to 4K will be able to have much higher settings, you'd think.

I'm quote excited to see what is possible, anyway

@Khwarezm89 yeah, I converted to all digital at the start of PS5. I had maybe a couple of titles digitally but mostly disc at that stage. But, because of the launch of PS5 being so mad, I only managed to get a digital edition on the second main release of consoles they had, which also was a queue fest and full of scalpers battling it out. I thought if I go for digital I'm more likely to actually get one, as all the disc editions went out of stock instantly, so it was a good choice.

And, since then, I've actually enjoyed having the digital library for ease of use, paired with the SSD that is what has made PS5 feel the most next gen, rather than anything graphically. It just simply saved me so much time and faff with storage and disk swapping, and with loading screens being extinct on top of that gaming really feels streamlined now.

I would also get voucher codes for some wallet credit if you don't mind doing that. Regularly 13% or so off everything you buy on the store that way anyway, plus any sales that come up for older titles, and I've had a lot of launch titles for less than the disc version. Obviously you can't sell them on, but that wasn't an issue for me as I didn't binge games in a week and sell them like some do.

Overall, it just feels better, and I'm sure you'd get used to it too 😁

@Ravix Oh nice. Where I can get these discounted credits? This would solve my problem tbh because usually I can get physical games cheaper here even day one games and that's why I preferred physical.

@Bentleyma Swapping disc is a big issue for me when I'm traveling for example and playing on my Portal so I can't do that

Thank you both! I guess I'll sell the disks I have for extra cash and then convert completely to all digital.

@Khwarezm89 you'd probably need to Google where is best for Germany, but some popular ones are CDKeys and shopto.

Paired with PS Stars I've had some nice discounts in the last few years. If you know you are going to spend x amount of wallet credit anyway, then getting the bigger discount for one larger payment and having it there for when you want to buy games works out well enough, for me. It's never going to be super cheap, but taking some off the full price games at launch has softened the blow of converting to digital.

There's also people who pretend they are from Turkiye with a VPN for massive store discounts too, but that's never really interested me. But you know, some people might be interested in that kind of thing, but i'd research it heavily first if that did appeal to you as I haven't the foggiest about it, other than it seems a tad dishonest.

@Bentleyma ah, you got it all set up. Nice. Oh, that RGB stand just makes me wish they'd add actual RGB lighting to the PS5's too, instead of the harsh white light we get when it's on πŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺ looks so much better with a flash of actual colour

Khwarezm89

@Ravix Thanks a ton. I didn't know that CD Keys had PS Credit for Germany but yeah found it with around 15% discount. Now I'm more convinced to convert to all Digital. And yeah I heard about this Turkey thing but never wanted to do it.

I was unsure about it since it was announced. I pre-ordered it, then cancelled it and have now pre-ordered it again. I usually always play in performance mode. So will be good to get the graphical boost. I'm hoping that the differences will be more noticeable when actually playing the games. Than looking at YouTube videos. Main reason I'm getting it is for Ghost of Yotei. I love Ghost of Tsushima and I want to experience the new one the best way possible.

@Bentleyma There are probably a few like us. πŸ˜‚ Def wasn't sure about it when first announced. I'm the same, so will def get good use out of it. Only thing that will take time away from the PS5 is that I'm switching to the series X for COD on GPU. So saving some money going forward on it.

I want performance modes to be even smoother and look prettier. Not only that, but I can afford it. Furthermore, I don't play in quality mode, ever. I simply cannot tolerate or adjust to 30 fps these days. Interestingly, the older I get, the less tolerant of it I have become.

So it was a simple decision for me. Pre-ordered it via PS Direct.

Some details on Dragon Age: The Veilguard PS5 Pro support:

We are excited to see how Dragon Age: The Veilguard will lean into the power that PS5 Pro unlocks for players. Whether you love deep progression, strategic combat, or diving into the lore of Dragon Age, you will immediately notice the improved experience with PS5 Pro. The game’s Fidelity and Performance modes will both see improvements on the hardware, including improved resolution in 30FPS Fidelity and 60FPS Performance modes. Additionally, there will be various improved visual settings across 30FPS Fidelity and 60FPS Performance mode.

The team at BioWare is proud of how immersed players will be when they enter the beautiful world of Thedas, with upgraded image quality thanks to Sony’s new AI-based upscaler, PSSR. We’ve enabled Raytraced Ambient Occlusion (RTAO) in the 60FPS Performance mode, which previously was only available on the base PlayStation 5 with 30FPS Fidelity mode.

@Khwarezm89 no problem. That 15% ain't a bad discount at all, especially for games you want to get on release day!

In return, I ask only a small favour...

Let me know how Dragon Age The Veilguard is on PS5 Pro when you get it 😁 the more I read, the more it seems that this will be the first game to really go for it on the new hardware. The game itself I am still unsure of, but the fact they are piling on the upgrades right away is really intriguing. And as I love fantasy as a genre, I am hoping it's a game I will maybe warm to at some point, as I did with Dragons Dogma 2, after being a little worried by the trailers I saw in the year before release, it ended up being a day one game for me 😁

They have said (realised you quoted some of this already, but more details have since come out): not only are they doing the 60fps Pro mode with some minor RT effects and PSSR boosting image quality to match PS5 quality, but they have also confirmed the 30fps mode will have boosted resolution and more visual goodies, which seems like a very good starting place for a third party release to include so many improved options
